Attached is a version of the caricature that I have. This has been done to make it easy for everyone to understand what I am looking for.

The challange is to make this REALLY work. I would like to see styles that make this really work also. The closer you can get to the stye shown on http://www.achillesuperbi.it/ the better...

The verbal instuctions are to make a weekend warrior that plays sports on the weekend and is a burly slightly out of shape looking character with all sorts of equipment on his body. It should be a little funny but not too so.
The equipment on the example are just examples...I'd like to see some creative enery go into this so show me the body, face and equipment you would put on this character. It will be used on t-shirts and other places and possibly as a logo in some form. Additionally the one selected will have the opportunity to do several more of these with slightly different themes.

Hey there! What is the largest size you'll need the artwork? (Inches) And do you have a picture of someone's face who you want us to use to make the caricature?

ChristianSanfiel ,
No...no picture that is what I am looking for...creative thoughts and concepts from you and the art work will be used in many sizes for t-shirts, on a website as a small logo possibly,etc.....thanks.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there, dougten :)

You mention t-shirts, do you mean it for embroidery or silkscreen? Or maybe transfer? I'm asking because the final media will limit the number of colors we can use. There are silkscreeners that use CMYK printing, but in most cases it's a plain color print, so we'll probably have to limit to some specific number of colors. Embroidery machines normally have from 7 to 12 colors, but it really depends on the shop. Have you spoken to the print shop about the printing prices for t-shirts?

More likely be Transfer if printing full colour I.e. from a photo :)

Don't worry about the t-shirt ...I can take care of that Also, I suggest you go to the website mentioned in my request and see kind of style I would like
....I would like to see roughs first so whomever is doing the work doesn't waste their time and goes in the right direction.
No pictures are available, please use your creativity...size will need to be flexible...I can adjust the example I've shown.

ok, another question then: could you tell us what exactly you don't like or see that it doesn't work in the example you posted, so that we don't make the same error again?

Sorry for all that asking, but with illustrations it's really good to know more about the matter before starting the work :)

Thanks in advance :)

Cheers!

Alex,
Sure it needs a totally new style, the face needs work, the body and the sizing of the equipment and the specific equipment.

I know you can get close to the style I am looking for....

The example is just to show the general idea, it needs a lot of refinement.

I JUST WENT TO YOUR WEBSITE AND AFTER REVIEWING YOUR WORK...I KNOW YOU HAVE THE TALENT TO DO THIS.

Thanks, Doug :)
I'll try to work on it during this weekend (a weekend warrior, eh? :D ). I'm in a couple of difficult projects now, so I don't think I have something by Friday, but I'll try to ;) BTW, do you have a deadline for this contest?

Cheers :)

Alex,

There is no deadline...we can take our time and work around your other projects.

Hi, Doug!

Sorry for disappearing, I'm having troubles wih my scanner, its glass collapsed in (t's a very old scanner) and I can't scan the sketches, so I have to draw it all once again on the screen and it takes much more time.

Also, this week is the last week of the trimester and I have two big works to finish and present, one is for today and the other one is for Saturday. I'll be free after this and will be able to finish what I've started. I have three different ideas so far.

Sorry one more time for the inconvenience.

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm gonna present a design based on the style you are looking for (it's realistic cartoon style, I think?) soon.

Weekend Warrior in realistic cartoon style. I did this using Photoshop. Because of the details involved, I have done only the face part. Looking forward to your feedback.

...hi, Doug!

Here's a grayscale rendering of the thing. It's a draft (albeit it took so much time to do). Some of the details (like the soccer baloon or sky rendering) aren't detalized.

Please, tell me what do you think :)

Cheers!

...a slightly improved version with some color applied.

OK Alex and Chocolate,

Here we go...there are things I like about each of your approaches.
First Alex...you've done a good job in thinking about the general look of this characterAND THE MOTION I LIKE A LOT...and as I have mentioned when we get to the next stage we will need to put different and new equipment on him.
Second Chocolate, you have come close to the texture or feel of the product in the skin on the face (not the expression or anything else but the skin approach) which should be used for the whole character.

SO...HERE IS THE NEXT AND FINAL STEP. BOTH OF YOU TRY TO INCORPORATE WHAT I HAVE SAID IN A COMPLETE CHARACTER WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT CHANGES WILL TAKE PLACE.
THEN I WILL MAKE A DECISION ON WHO IS THE WINNER AS SOON AS I HAVE BOTH OF YOUR ENTRIES.
IT'S DOWN TO YOU TWO SO GOOD LUCK...

I'D LIKE TO SEE THESE BY MONDAY.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS

...here's what I got at the moment. Realistic rendering takes an awful amount of time :( The image is about 1/4 finished.

I'm gradually getting rid of the outlines replacing them with volumes. The face is nearly finished, it still lacks some final touches, including hair and facial hair.

Oh, and it's all vectors, so it can be upscaled without losing quality (the gradient may start to releive band, but it won't be essential at the scale).

We have a winner!...Alex!

We will get you paid as soon as we finish.

We need to finish the project with more detail and the placement of different equipment and where it goes.
Alex, let me know when you are ready.

Thank you for all who participated.

Hi Alex,

Here is the next stage...

We need to put the equipment, clothes and copy on the character.

First the equipment:
1)a basball type hat turned sideways...like the first one I presented.
2) a ski on one foot
3) basketball or tennis shoe on the other foot
4) A regular t-shirt not sleevelees...color to be determined.
5) Copy on the t-shirt: "Weekend Warrior.net"
6) One shin guard
7) One knee pad (football) american
8)Long basketball shorts
9) one hand has a tennis racquet
10) the other had has a baseball glove in it
11) under one arm is a basketball
12) drapped over his shoulder are a couple of golf clubs( not the whole set in the bag.
13) Skin diving googles on the head over the eyes

14) a small back pack with stuff coming out ( we can work on this later. with a baseball bat,
football in it and a beer can hanging out.

15) trailing him like he just lost them could be the football, baseball bat, soccer ball,

I think this is enough for now...we can add as we go forward.

Thanks,

Doug

Wow, that's a lot of stuff :D

Are you sure the ski on one foot? Can't we leave the gumboot there? A ski is problematic to put on a running person. Could we trade it for a ski stick somewhere else? (like withing the trailing stuff or, maybe, along with the golf clubs?)

About the golf clubs: you say "a couple of golf clubs", are they stick out of a small bag or something else?

The shin guard: a hockey one? a football one? a soccer one? a karate one? :) Do you have a link to an image? Anyway, I'm posting here my vision of what it may be.

The knee pad: I can add it, but it will be barely seen with this pose of the character (see the attached image), can we spare it?

I add a quick mockup of the stuff positioning and am waiting for the comments ;)

Cheers!
