View Full Version : National Youth Organization "Plural" - Prize: $100

Hey everyone! (Admin code added by Palmer - Y134980A)
I need a logo for an organization called "Plural". It's a new national support organization here in Sweden to assist smaller youth organizations/clubs that arranges forms of art, such as theatre, music, dance and such. The logo may be anything you like, but it is preferable if it meets at least some of these criteria:
1. It should communicate multiplicity. (as in “many”)
2. It should appeal to young people (don’t overdo this one, though)
3. It should look artsy and/or cultural.
4. Don't look to corporate.
Deadline for submissions is Friday the 28th of March. I realize this is a tight deadline, but I’m presenting it to the board of directors that day, and they will be the ones picking the winner. You need to be able to submit a high-res version of the logo before the 28th, too, as I will most likely be presenting them to the board in printed form. If the board likes yours, I will pay you 100$.
Okay! Let’s get ready to rrrummmbleeee!
Some initial ideas/brainstorming

Using multiplicity as a starting point. Both logos are artistic, and would probably appeal.....

Sorry for the delayed response - I'm not getting email notifications from this board. I'm vBulletin lazy, I guess.
Pretty nice ones. I don't like the fact that johns little dude looks like he is wasted/dead or something with the starry eyes. ;)
I'll try to think of some more detailed feed back later.

Not sure why. Email notification on these forums is a little buggy. This link (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=10&t=214&s=) might help. You may have it turned off in your control panel.

Here's my go. The instruments and other items are sitting atop the letters in this design. It also incorporates the colors of the flag of Sweden.

Nice, but way too advanced for my liking. It would be very hard to use in small format. Also, it looks to much classical-music, which has two problems - (1) the target market rarely touch classical music, and (2) the ones not producing music may feel like the organization is not for them.

I really like the second one - the one with the dots.. Try to add some colour?

I worked on a few concepts for the logo. Included min this post are three very different ideas. Please give feedback on these as soon as you're able. It is saved at 300 dpi so it can be safely printed. Thank you for your time.

A few different colours, I think this type of logo works better with just the two colours. Any more and I think it becomes a mess, and might detract from the imagery.
What do you think?

I like the concept of the second one best, but it looks a little unfinished and is too blocky. Perhaps if it was round? I don't know.
Also, keep in mind that it's not me who will be deciding on which logo is the best - I'll present every sample to the board.

Hmm, yeah, you are probably right. But it works pretty good with all colours.
I think the concept with dots is the best, overall. I had an entry submitted to me with little dudes, too, which worked pretty good too.

I'm assuming the one with "little dudes" is not from someone at this site right? Because they are required to post their entries.

Very nice, people! I don't think any of the last logos need any changing - they are ready to be presented to the board. I need high-res versions of all the logos very soon - please email them to mattias[at]johansson.com. The do not have to be insanely large, but reasonable resolution is neccesary. I will need them at the very latest 24 hours from making this post.

Oh, they did indeed like a lot of them! The problem was that they didn't feel that any of them fit the organization.
Here comes a more through description of the organization:
Plural is an organization for young producers and organizers of (as in arranging and/or producing) art. An organization which has as purpose to get young people to believe in themselves as important and necessary parts of the art community in Sweden. For the ones that are already on their way with producing and arranging, we are there to inspire, educate and network. For the ones curious about arranging we are there to lead and peptalk. Between the member organizations we will create a network, where ideas can be discussed freely, experiences can be traded and relationships can be established. Plural will also arrange courses and seminars connected to organizing/arranging/producing, in subjects such as bookeeping, economy, marketing and laws. Everything according to the wishes and needs of the member organizations.

Just thought I'd point out that the design above is very similar to the cover design of the textbook "Marketing: A Canadian Perspective". I couldn't find a picture online of the design, but it is very similar to the one above. :)
I know beetle didn't copy it, as the text is just for Canadian schools, but I thought I'd point it out, so the Org. can decide if it's safe or not. :)

Okay, people. We got in approximately 45 good entries (I'm not counting the ones submitted that looked like they were done in MS Paint). The board had no problem picking out which ones weren't suitable, and we basically came down to 6 entries in the end.

A late entry, playing on the fact that the organization is fundamentally about peope:
http://www.virtuos.se/temp/plurallogga.gif
Another, based on the idea of networking.
http://www.virtuos.se/temp/plurallogga_molekyl.gif
J-designs... The only designer to have two of his entries considered.
http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/uploads/post-4-1048278120.jpg
+ one that was submitted to me privately.
After that, we decided it was best to take a vote by letting each board member give each of the 6 chosen entries a score from 1 to 6. I will let the exact results of the vote go unsaid, but it was an extremely close race between ElKootcho, the P-Face and the Molecule-style networking thingy, but the P-face won out.
I can't enough tell you how well you all have done this. Not all of you hit on the spot on with your logo(s), but almost every single one of you had fantastic designs from a beauty standpoint. I wish you all the best in future endavours! Oh, and I'm sorry to say that there was never a $100 deposit at these forums - Palmer personally invited me to post here, and didn't mention it at first - when I discovered this rule, the contest had already ran for quite some time. Many GREAT designs were posted and they ranged from one extreme to another. Other contest holders can only DREAM and HOPE that they receive the kind of attention that this one did.
I am very careful not to make comments and post on other design contests other than my own but I could not let this one end on kind of a downer note  ....everyone deserves a pat on the back for a job more than well done. I enjoy coming back to DesignOutpost on a regular basis and watching the different contests. Sweep this one under the rug and keep movin' on. B)
