Ok, this will be an easy contest, as I know pretty much what I want. The hard thing is I only want to give 48hrs (ending 3-18 possibly earlier if I can) to get it done. I hope that is not too soon.

I already have a logo, what I want to do is put a grass graphic along the bottom of my truck, the graphic will extend about 6-8” or so high from the bottom of the body panels. This will run from right behind the front wheel to the front of the rear wheel. Right in front of the rear wheel I need a mower blade “cutting” through the grass and throwing up some “clippings”. Please use a green similar to my logo color just to make it easier for me to “picture” the final look.

It will probably be vinyl graphics, so we will keep the image some what simple. However he said he could reproduce any graphic onto a vehicle, so it can be a bit more complex as well. He said it just matters how he does it and not what the image is.

I will give you a few pictures (please do not laugh) my design talent is bad, that’s why I come here. I would like to see it on the pic of my truck to give me a better idea of what the finished product will look like.

The final graphic needs to be an eps vector. (I would also like a jpg file or two for my own use) This works well for the graphic guy.

Other than that I just need to see some variations of the grass/mower blade placement/grass clippings, ECT.

One other note, I saw a truck today with a similar idea, the grass was all straight and all the clippings were triangle, and the same size, It really looked bad, so keep in mind I would like a “real” or “natural” looking image, or at least as close to real/natural as you can

Thanks guys and girls!

Here is a sample grass graphic I have found, to get the general idea.

Ok heres the "Do not laugh" part ;)

Here is my BAD cut and paste stab at the general layout I would like.

You can just barely see the clippings I added, They are just above and to the right of the blade. I would like them all to flow toward the rear of the truck.

Hey there, is roughly the height you portrayed in your sample, the max height the graphic may reach from the bottom of the body panels?

I would like to keep it below the moulding on the door, I believe you can see the moulding on the picture. I just ran out and measured it, it is 9.5" from the bottom of the panel to the moulding. Of course that is just for the grass, the clippings can extend up as far as we want. ;)

I will post one more pic, now that we have decided on the rest of the graphics, here is a rough idea of what the truck will have for sure.

Here's a draft! Tell me in which direction you want the grass to go(same as logo or making it look as if it's being pushed back by the wind when driving) and how long you want the blade to be.

Thats pretty sweet looking, I like the grass angled towards the rear of the truck, I know on the drivers side the logo grass is foward but on the passenger side it will angle to the rear.

Make sure the grass that is being cut is straight across and that the blade is cutting all the grass its touching. (you may have it that way but hard to tell from the mock up)

Also can you try a variation of the clippings flying towards the rear of the truck more instead of up and out?

I want to give at least one more designer a chance for imput, but you are on the right track.

I am heading out for a while but I will be here all evening and tonight.

By up and out, you mean sort of like this? I'll have the vector in a few hours.

Here's how it's coming along, feel free to make any suggestions or changes!

* more grass?

*thicker blades?

*etc.

ChristianSanfiel,

Ok let me see if I can explain this, I like parts of all of them....lol

1) The thick grass is a bit too thick, and the thin grass is a bit too thin. Can we go inbetween?

2) Same thing on the clippings, the they are a bit too extreme both ways, the ones flying towards the rear of the truck is the idea but maybe combine a few aspects of the original clippings with the curved ones.

3) the only other thing right off hand is where you squared off the grass that the blade was cutting almost looks like a box around the blade, maybe a bit softer of a transition.

Thanks for all the work so far, if you can change things a bit that would be great. Can not wait to see the changes.

Done!

Here's a slightly different version! And if there's a specific blade that you want illustrated, give me a heads up!

Here's a quick fixup on the truck!

GreenQuest Lawn
03-17-2004, 08:14 PM
Ok, now, the ONLY thing I see (do not change anything else for now) Is, can the blades of grass be a bit taller? If you look back at the first few designs the grass went all the way up to the moulding on the door, if you extend the blades up a ways EXCEPT under the blade,(the blade and the grass under the blade can stay the same) that will fill it in better and give the appearance of cutting more grass off.
;)

And here's the next one! :D

Christian

In this one you can see it better.

GreenQuest Lawn

Nice, Ok take a few clippings from here (mainly a few of the longer ones you most recently added) Just a few do not take them all. ;)

GreenQuest Lawn
03-18-2004, 07:16 AM
And add a few more here (not nessisarily the long ones you took out but similar to the ones already by here)

GreenQuest Lawn

Hey I thought of one other thing.

since this will be on both sides of the truck, will I need a mirror image for the passenger side?

Seems every thing would be backwards on the other side.

Will that be a problem?

Christian
03-18-2004, 07:30 AM
Yep, I'll send a mirrored version along too!

Christian

Here's the next one! Added more to the top but suddenly the long ones seemed a bit strange and realized they weren't in the vector but rather in the photoshop file I use to show you the previews. A mix up of sorts, but if you want me to add more long ones around that area, then just say the word! :D

Hey everyone, I am ending this contest early, sorry if anyone was going to get a design to me & did not have time. Of course the winner will be ChristianSanfiel. His quick responce, and perfect design is great. Now we will do the final tweaking and be on our way!

GreenQuest Lawn

Ok for now let me ponder the designs for a while (I am printing the ones I like out to take a second look at)

:help: :D

Christian

Sure thing! Thanks for the contest, glad I could help out! :D

Ok first of all lets start by saving the exact layout in the very last picture you posted, this may very well be the final graphic.

Now what I would like to do is see if we can improve it even more. Who knows.

1st I would like to see that graphic with just a bit thicker grass. Not much, like 20 more blades across the length.

2nd I would like to slightly "aim" the clippings toward the rear of the truck. Kind of like the graphic I will post here just not as much.
It can still have some clippings randomly flying around like it does now, just aim a few more back.

I will keep checking every 30 min or so this afternoon, I would like to finalize this yet today, if you are busy just let me know. B)

Here's the next one! :D

GreenQuest Lawn

Nope, I am going to stay with this one. ;) Stick a fork in it....

When you finalize it make sure since I cannot see how big the clippings are, make sure there are no REALLY tiny ones, they may come off easy if they are vinyl.(if there are you can just make them a tad wider or longer) It looks like they are all ok.

I do not know if the 9.5 inches matters on the height of the grass. I would imagine it can be scaled to any size from the eps. I also have to make it just a bit longer in the front (towards the front of the truck) cause it will actually go right up to the wheel well and be cut to that shape. I can imagine my graphics guy can handle all the sizing.

So I just need the vector (eps) file and a few jpg files (various sizes) or just a big one and I can scale it down. (of course with no black background)

I will talk to the graphics guy on Friday morning (If you get the files to me by then) and see if it will work ok.

Again I thank you!

This be the one!

I am signing off on this project, ChristianSanfiel did a great job. He was very quick to respond to all my needs, thanks.

I can not wait to get all my DesignOutpost graphics on my shirts and truck. I will post some pics in the contest holder showcase when I am done.

Thanks!

Todd
