Hi

Gringo mag will be an online web magazine featuring news, info and photo's etc on surfing with further articles on other board and extreme sports. The bias will be towards surfing though. Gringo chix ( Bikini clad girls for the male readers ) + Gringo pix (photographic stock library of surf, beach, wave shots etc ) are other things that will be incorporated within the site/mag and designs for these will follow with who ever wins the contest to obviously follow the same theme as gringo mag.

It is hoped that in 2005 this will become a free magazine distributed through surf shops etc.

I have no pre conceived ideas at this stage as to how it should look. It needs to be cool, not too grungy and I don't want a mexican feel to it!( I live in Cornwall, England ). Waves in surf logo's seem to be overdone now, they're everywhere! I have no particular colours in mind either. I know this sound's a bit sketchy so far but I really am open to any ideas will leave feedback to any designs posted.

I would like to receive the final artwork in photoshop with all files available if possible.

Thanks for looking

Richard

REVISION: I have found a style I want to adopt. Its a bit of a change of direction. Within the gallery section there is 'mute designs' who have done 2 ace logos for Tiki Head and Mojo soft boards. The style for this is just what I'd like for the gringo website, ie the logo. I could then develop the site around this style.

Maybe a characture of a surfer, long hair(curly maybe), boardies low slung, reef type shoes, surf board etc. maybe island and palm trees etc.

Thanks for the posting. I do like the colour just doesnt say surfing or extreme sports to me. would it be possible to incorporate some sort of simple symbol/illustration rather than just text?

Hey Chris

Like the first grino font a lot. not sure about the illustration especially as its to be used on the front of a mag etc.

Something simple would be great, less is more and all that.

Radical Seed - Like that, not orange, looks a bit like a fried egg but the wave and the font is cool.

Blackspot - Nothing wrong just doesnt grab me that much although do like the font a lot.

Allred - Sorry, just dont think its strong enough

Well, I used the same font and incorporated a wave. I hope this is different enough from everyone elses as I think they are all starting to go the same way.

*EDIT*
I tried to keep it simple since you want to make a print mag with the logo as well.

Hi Jason

Thanks for the design. Your right about having to keep it simple. I seem to be struggling a bit. to be honest nothing has grabbed me a great deal yet, not suprising though as I'm not really sure about what I want, ive got no ideas really.

Initially its going to be an online surf mag. As a printed magazine title probably best kept as a straight forward header without a graphic, I'll worry about that when it happens. But for now it would be great to have a good logo for the site.

Would be grateful for any other ideas.

Cheers Rich

PS. theres a really cool design in the gallery section my Mute design for Mojo surboards. something in that style I think would work really well for the website, maybe palms etc

I'm working on it as I speak (type).

I'm pretty sure you don't want a wave, but how about a symbol that represents a riptide/lowercase "g"?

Sorry mate I have found a style I want to adopt. Don't be sorry, I'm glad you found a direction for us. Besides... I've always wanted to be call "mate"! ;)
There is a problem though... I am not an illustrator so any design I do is going to be abstract (that's my word for not knowing how to draw!! ;) ). I'll see what I can do for you.

Just J
03-19-2004, 01:49 PM
Ok, this is about as close as I could come to what you wanted. I may be able to do more later tonight if this is the right direction, but this is pretty close to the extent of my drawing abilities.
I'm just hoping to not embarrass myself too much with this post!!!

Hello Matt

Thanks for the design. Having posted this a few days ago I have felt that we werent really getting anywhere, which was probably down to me and the poor remit I gave at the start.

Having looked through the galleries for inspiration have came across a couple of designs/illustrations done by mute design (mojo surfboards & tiki head ). These were pretty amazing and I think would be perfect for the gringo mag website, enabling me to carry the same style through the whole site and its elements. So please read my revision made to the competion intro, any further designs in this style much appreciated.

Thanks Rich

At last this is heading in the right direction. I really do want to utilise a character in the design though[QUOTE]Maybe a characture of a surfer, long hair(curly maybe), boardies low slung, reef type shoes, surf board etc. maybe island and palm trees etc.

The design is excellent, love the palm trees and the gringo text. A surfer dude character would be excellent, my next logo comp would then follow for gringo chix a sort of bikini clad 'pammy'.

Hope this helps, please dont give up need to get some momentum going!! Deadline is fast approaching!

Hi annia

Have searched the web to try and find a character to illustrate what I want, this is the best I could find.

I would prefer him to be standing up holding his board, perhaps set against the trees and text you have already done. I think we can lose the shades and maybe the thumbs up.

I dont know if this helps at all :D

Other than this would be great to see any ideas you may have worked on.

Just come accross some stickers that are similar to the style of logo I would want for gringo chix. thought it might be helpful to work backwards and therefore a style for Gringo?

Sorry to keep bugging you with all these pictures but easier to show you than explain :)

I am still at work.. I will post you some sketches when I come home :)

ps: not bugging me.. rather helping! thanks! :)

Given the choice between the simple illustration (easy for me to say as I dont have to draw it!) of the guy on a board and the more detailed illustration of the girls I'd prefer to go for more detail.

:( confused? Hope not!

hey annia

Like where your going with this. Would like to see him full length wearing board shorts, maybe his board stuck in the sand behind him, maybe arms folded and laughing/smiling as he is now....what d'you think? Would this work as a design or are we better to keep the figure to head and shoulders ?

annia
03-24-2004, 12:27 AM
I just made the head/shoulders so far to check if you like the style :) Now I know you are happy with this I will work on a second sketch (also including body) .. hopefully today after work ;)
