View Full Version : New logo Rock Creek $150

We are a trucking company that specailizes in delivery of landscaping materials. We also have a Landscaping Division that does installations, maintenance & lawncare. We are currently looking for a new logo. Right now all we are using is the name written in cursive.
We would like a logo that is unique. All of our trucks are blue so we would like a color scheme that would look good on a blue truck.
The logo should read
"Rock Creek Trucking, Inc."
We would like to have something that is going to catch attention. We will be using this logo on various printed materials, our trucks, hats, promo items, and large signs, so we will need it in Hi-Res digital file, tif, bmp, vector etc.
Deadline for this contest is April 1, 2004.

Inside the block is a figurative R and C, formed by rocks in a stream. Let me know what you think!

I'll toss another one out here, maybe to get the party started.

Arthouse,
We like the idea you are going with but we need the logo to be placed on blue trucks so it can't be blue. We would also like it to flow a little more, maybe incorporate the name inside an image.
Chris,
We want something that is very professional looking. This is going in the wrong direction. Maybe something with some icons or something. We were impressed with most of the entries for the logo for Advanced Services. If you look there maybe you could get some ideas of what we are looking for.
Thank You,
Jessica

Still interested in any ideas others might have. Anyone interested?
Rock Creek
03-19-2004, 12:23 PM
Ok, since there are no new entries I thought I would throw a few more ideas out there. We want emphisis on the words 'Rock Creek' in our logo, so the words 'Trucking, Inc.' could be a lot smaller. We would like a bold color scheme. I was thinking the colors yellow/blue (keeping in mind that this logo does have to go on blue trucks).
Design wise I think we are trying to go for something modern, sophisticated, classy, elegant, professional. As far as the font goes we would like to stay away from block looking letters.
For goodness sake don't feel limited by any of the above suggestions. We are very open to all of your ideas and have liked all of the designs we have seen on this site, some of them will work for us and some of them won't. We trust your creativity. So come on where are those entries?
Jessica

Arthouse,
The more we look at your design we really like the image inside the block. But we were thinking maybe we could change the block to a oval, make the figurative letters a little more clear. change the color scheme to blue/yellow, and write the company above and below the image. Could we give something like that a try? Also try a new font.

One other thought to tie in the landscaping theme we were thinking maybe incorporate a tree in the logo somehow. We would also be ok with blue/green as a color scheme. Just some thoughts, I hope this helps.

Hi Jessica,
Do you like any of the entries posted by me in the Advanced Services contest?
Let me know.

DesignGeneral,
We like your entries for Advanced Servces, but we checked out some of your other entries and really loved the one you did for Excellerate Learing Solutions. We also liked the making it better logo you did and both of the Evolution logos you did. We would love to see what you could come up with.

I used this icon for someone else not having anything to do with landscaping or a creek (or river) and they thought it looked like a river (or a creek ;) ) so I figured it was worth a shot.

DesignGeneral,
Could you make the letters script, the words 'Trucking, Inc.' a little smaller than 'Rock Creek'. Make all the words yellow, but a brighterr yellow. Looks good so farthough.
Blackspot,
We love the icon but the font is too block looking, also we would like to see the logo in different colors because it needs to go on a blue truck. We are starting to head in the right direction.
For reference here is what our logo looks like now we like it a lot but it needs something more.

Looks great could we also try a bright yellow?

Sorry Bill,
We like the logo you created the only problem we are having is the color. All of our trucks are blue so we need colors that will stand out against a blue background.
Muvment,
We like the bright yellow, was wondering if we could try another variation of your design like maybe put the image in the center make it oval and write the words above and below it? But definitely keep that color yellow.

We like the bigger icons much better. Could we see them both all yellow? We like the version you did that has all yellow with a brown leaf. Still not crazy about the font. Could you try a font like you did for Blue Nile or snowtide informatics? We would like to see several font choices.

Blackspot,
I'm sorry I must have missed the revisions you did (yellow/light yellow) nice job  love the different shades of yellow. Could you lighten the blue just a bit. Also I'm not sure but the icon is missing something could you maybe find a way to place an "R" in the top half and a "C" in the bottom half? We like this font so don't ditch it just yet, but could we also see some different ones too though?

We are still trying to decide if we like the revisions as they are. We love the font changes and we really like it boxed in but still trying to figure out whether yellow and green combination will look good against a blue background. No the trucks are in between the fist blue you had and the second, this lighter blue is closer. I am trying to find the battery for my digital camera so that I can post a picture of one of our trucks. I think it will really help. Also that way we can see what these logos will look like on the side of the truck. Will repost in a few hours with a picture hopefully.

We like all the fonts except for the third one down. Could you make the R & C inside the icon the same font as the name? Could you do the last font in italics? And, on the 2nd font down could we play with making the R & C in the company name a little larger than the rest?
Thanks,

We are still looking for new entries. We need something that really stands out on the side of our trucks. We have some great entries so far but we are still looking for something that pops off the side of our truck. We are open to completely new ideas and color schemes but it has to be very noticible on the side of our blue trucks.

Revisions done, but I didn't know what you wanted the border aound (if you meant the whole thng?). Also, do you have a preference for the amount of colors? I was considering adding a color, but I wasn't sure.

Blackspot,
I think we like the white better. Two things: our favorite logo you did was #5c we like how it is square with rounded corners. The layout of the logo and company name is ok but might look better side by side we have to fit four lines under the logo on the truck door - 1- LANDSCAPE DIVISION, 2- city, state, 3- phone number, 4- our DOT number. So we would like to see #5c but change that agua color to a more blue tone but keep it that light. Looks great, our favorite do far.

Also could you do the font in italics? Looks great so far though.

After careful consideration we have decided to increase our prize amount to $150.00. While there are several entries that we like very much, we we hoping on something fresh and creative. Maybe something using the letters in a unique way. We realize that this would involve a bit more work on your part and should warrant a higher prize amount. We are looking forward to seeing some new ideas.

Raja,
Thank you very much for your entry. We really like the movement in the letters, this works well for us. We are not crazy about the grass, or the font. I know in our original post I had asked for something that incorporated the landscaping theme, but I don't think that is working for us. In your portfolio we love all of the following logos, and were hoping you could fo something along the same lines for Rock Creek:
Musclefire, NorahJones, Firstrate, Turf Solutions, Universal Axis, Criterion, Franklin Flyers, Search Clickz, Brillant, Strunt, Cashgo, and Ludos. I guess my whole problem here is that I don't know how to describe what we want. We want to stay away from generic looking logos, something very unique.

Just a couple more ideas for the RC.
Note: The one on the left doesn't look half as good without the drop shadow and I would probably have to change the font of the text in the rest of the logo.
Rock Creek
03-25-2004, 08:54 AM
blackspot,
The one on the right looks too much like a monogram, but we still like that same font for your other entries so don't change it. The one on the left is interesting but I worried what it would look like in black and white which is what it would be printed in on some of our paperwork. Could we greyscale it for that purpose, or would it not have the drop shadow because of the colors?
Below is another idea. Please forgive the bluriness it wasn't meant to be that way. I found these letters in the middle of another logo. By placing this way I like how the 'C' seems to rest on the bottom half of the 'R'

Here you go...
My biggest fear with this set (the last "RC's" that I've posted) is that they may look like "RO" or "RD" instead of a backward "C". I really like the concept, but figured I'd voice my concern. Also, I may have to make the white space between the letters a little larger to separate them more.

Hi,
here comes revision as requested ( logo minus the line ); note that the brown line connecting the R&C was there because the initial concept was to combine the line with the R&C to have some sort of abstract tree - which is a nice idea I think :)
Anyway , I also have included a second totally different concept just because I felt like it :D

03-25-2004, 12:57 PM
Alan,
Your not really missing anything, I don't know that there is one certain look that I am after or a certain direction I would like to go, I have very eclectic tastes. Most of the posts of the "RC" are from me. I think it is very interesting when a designer takes a company name and plays with certain letters in that name and comes up with a unique memorable image. I have also mentioned that I like the look of faded, & shadowed letters and of images and letters that have a "glow" look to them (the example I gave is on page 6 - its the logo for 'Criterion' done by Raja) I think after I posted that example most of the entries began to focus more on fonts, letters, shadowing, and fading. The only thing we are concerned with is that we want to stay away from generic looking logos, we want something very unique.
We do like your design very much, however I don't think we like the color scheme as much as some of the other entries. I am also afraid that with the font the company name doesn't have the impact that we were looking for. Maybe you could try to do something a little different with the colors. And the left side of the image still has something that I don't like, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it is the color?
Thank you,
Jessica

Frank,
 We love the new design Great job! Has just the right impact.
We also think the 1st one you did was really great too. We really liked the idea of the abstract tree. However we were thinking that the blue color scheme you came up with would look much better on our truck. And when its in blue it doesn't really look much like a tree, nice concept though.
Thank You,
Jessica

Greetings!
What was the original deadline for this contest? I noticed it was ended earlier. We were working on something. :( Anyway, we respect your wishes. At any rate, I would like to suggest not to end contest earlier in the future contest because you will never know that people are actually working silently for a final submission and are busy and have not taken the time to look at this forum. It is ok to extend a little bit on the deadline, but not on ending it earlier. I hope you understand our sentiments.
Thank you very much.
You take care.
:)

Jessica did post to say that they were going to select a winner today:
I just wanted to thank everyone so far for all your hard work and the great entries we have received for our contest. We have decided to end our contest a few days early and wanted to give everyone notice just in case anyone wanted to submit last minute changes or entries. We will be reviewing all entries and selecting a winner tommorow, March 30.
Thank You,
Jessica

Castlemelody,
I completely understand your sentiments. The original deadline was April 1st. We are very sorry that you did not have a chance to submit a final entry. From time to time I have seen some of the contests end early and designers get upset because they were working on something. We had no intention of upsetting anyone on this forum and that is why we gave everyone notice.
Regards,
Jessica

Greetings!
Thank you very much Michael. It is ok. No hard feelings here. Next time we will then need to follow through the whole thread discussion because we will never know if there is a decision to end a contest earlier.
Jessica, thank you for the opportunity for this contest.
Our congratulations to Frank!
Take care everyone.

Hi Jessica,
thanks for choosing my design - was a fun contest for sure ! :)
As for the files, just let me know which version exactly it is you want, (the green or blue/silver version etc) and where to send them to.
Thanks again :)

Frank,
I know that I need Vector, Tif, Jpeg, bmp and the company that does our truck lettering has requested an eps file. This logo is going to be used for shirts, hats, invoices, estimate forms, and other printed material, but also needs to be a big enough formatt to put on our trucks. Do you think I will need any other formatts besides the ones I have mentioned? We would like to go with the blue/silver version. And would like to recieve files for all the different color cobinations of the blue/silver. Also we have been having problems with our regular e-mail so we will have to have you send them to a hotmail address - jltddt@hotmail.com Please let us know if you think that the files will be too large for the hotmail address and I will let you know where else you can send them.
Thank You,
Jessica
