Hello again from Hayden Landscaping:

A few weeks ago we ran a logo contest in which Eagle brought to life an idea we had in mind. This design has evolved into a signature emblem for us rather than as an "official" logo. So, we are back again for another go with the best designers on the web.

I hesitate to call this contest a "logo" design as we are not looking for company branding. The design will only appear on crew shirts (grey) and vehicle doors/sides (white). You do not need to go to the trouble of showing the design transposed on a shirt or truck unless you feel it helps your presentation in some way. The design will not be used on letterhead or business cards etc. so it may be as complex, or as simple, as you deem fit. Maybe a more apt description would be travelling/walking billboard as opposed to "logo".

The design should include the above company name and can also include (this is optional) our tag line "Since 1965" or "Est. 1965". Please do not let our longevity immediately funnel you into a more conservative, corporate type design. We would prefer something a little more unusual to tie in with our personalities.

You may use any font style and color combination(s) you deem necessary as long as they will stand out against the above mentioned backgrounds and are, well, colorful. Please remember that our trucks are parked at jobsites in residential subdivisions with high pedestrian traffic 8-10 hours a day so the design will receive a lot of stationary attention. I'm not as concerned about the design being readable or recognizable while the vehicles are moving as I am with the design being memorable while working inside these subdivisions.

We are open to any and all ideas, but please do not use any hand tools, lawn mowers, wheel barrows, etc. My brothers and I are all beach rats and surfers so if an ocean theme could be adapted to a landscape company in landlocked Illinois I would like to see it. This is only a suggestion. Try thinking out of the box on this one.

We have set a deadline of March 31st for this contest, but reserve the right to extend it if necessary. The artist may of course use the selected design for their own portfolio and promotion.

We look forward to seeing the creativity from this site. Again!!

Hi Rick

Just in case you were wondering where everyone has gone, it's probably just the very busy time here and that the deadline is still nine days or so away...you'll get entries very soon I expect, don't worry! B)

Hi Eagle,

No problem. We'll wait patiently.

Your design from the last contest is a big hit around here by the way. As I stated in my post for this contest, it has evolved into a signature emblem for us and looks really good, especially in a large format.

Hi Gals and Guys,

Know your all very busy, so if it helps to simplify things for you, just concentrate on a flashy treatment of the company name and leave some space for the phone number. We can always have you design individual decals for our various services later in separate contests. This would give you more specific things to work with too.

Of course if you are working on something different please continue.

Thanks.

Thanks for the submissions.

Jason,

Could you try another color other than brown tone?

Julie,

Certainly very snazzy. Maybe a little too retro for us. Have seen your work and would like to see what else you have up your sleeve.

Carl,

Any idea for another color other than white for the name?

Thanks again.

So, if the surfboard doesn't work for you, how about this wave of green?

Moz,

Let me ride this one awhile and I'll get back to you.

Rick

Julie,

I should have clarified myself a little better concerning your first design. It wasn't the shape but the font style and colors that gave me the retro feel.

I have no problem with the board outline. Maybe you could squeeze it a little vertically and try a different font and color scheme.

Sorry for not explaining clearly.

Hi,

here are a few suggestions, the first 2 might look familiar ;)

Green it is...

Frank,

Those first two do look a little familiar! We liked the font style last time and it still looks pretty good. Without having the tree on top actually gives it a whole new perspective. Any ideas for another color combination other than green, yellow, white? Not that it doesn't look good in those colors. Just curious.

We have the orange and blue from the last contest and I would like to add some different colors this time around.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback - will come up with some color variations later.

Any feedback on the third design in my post (the more modern orange/blue one) ?
:)

Thanks,

Frank

Jason,

Thanks for the revision. Would it be too much trouble for you to post your two versions side by side. You may have been right with the first one. Also, could you do a version with the rectangles in a light shade of blue?

Thanks.

YES IT WOULD!!!!!
...It would be too wide!!! ;) :lol2:
Here are the changes as requested.
If there are any other changes you'd like, please let me know.

Frank,

Sorry Frank. Didn't mean to ignore your third post like that. I think it's fine. I believe your first design has more potential as an attention grabber in this instance.

Incidentally, it was the "blip" inside the c in landscaping on your first design which set me off on the "hide Abe" quest last time around. Now Eagle knows who to blame.

Thanks.

Jason,

I suppose a vertical stack is acceptable!!!
Let me study these awhile.
Thanks for the quick response.

Can you place a fake phone number in your design, maybe 123.456.7890?
No hurry on this.

Thanks.

Carl,

Thanks for the color variations. Let me think on them awhile.

MOZ,

Thanks for the numeral revision. I'm a little concerned with the shapes of the 5 and the 6 in this font style. I personally like it, but I'm afraid some people, especially elderly clients, might not be able to pick it up right away.

Perhaps you could try a different font style for comparison purposes whenever you get time.

Thanks to both Carl and MOZ.

Julie,

Thanks for the revisions. I have one favor to ask. Can you put a border around the Partridge Family surfboard from your original post and include it on the same sheet with these two?

I know your very busy so there is no rush. We have plenty of time left.

Thanks.

Not only did I put the outline around the one you asked about, but I added a few more choices for fonts. If you like any of them, we can always work on the colors.

MOZ,

Any ideas on how to bring the text out a little better in your latest revision? I tend to lose the lettering within the white background. Your opinion appreciated.

Julie,

I like the multi-colored surf boards but I haven't figured out how to arrange them
yet. I'm still experimenting with this concept.

Can you further explain what you mean about how to arrange them? I can help if I know what your concern is--that's my job!

Hi Julie,

I've been playing with arranging the boards in various configurations to form a border, letter, design etc but haven't hit on anything yet. I'm thinking of using several different boards rather than an individual one. Let me know if you have any ideas. I can easily extend the deadline if you want to experiment a little.

Thanks.

Hi MOZ,

The black helps bring out the text quite a bit. Could we try a version much like your original where the text was outlined with the darker blue, only this time make the outline just a little wider? I think I prefer the "cut in" look of the text as opposed to a solid fill. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Julie,

A very noble effort in trying to arrange the surfboard design. I like the surfboard idea; I'm just not sure where to go with it yet. Please retain these designs as I think you might be able to use them in a design for us in a later contest. Thanks for your hard work.

Design General,

Thanks for the entry. Not quite what we were after this time around, but please watch for our next contest. I like your style and hope to see more of your work next time.

I would like to end this contest at this time and declare MOZ the winner.
MOZ, I will be out of the office until late tomorrow evening so I'll be in touch with you then.

Thanks everyone.

Hey Moz,

Great design. Captured the ocean theme I was after and will stand out real well on the trucks. Colors also tie in well with Eagle's design which is splashed across the hood of our sales truck.

I will need the files in a an eps or tiff version as well as a jpeg for my own use.

The only "revision" I would need would be a version without the phone number and one with the phone number 217.923.3580. Will also need a b&w version.

I'm in no big hurry so if you are working on other contests with approaching deadlines feel free to place this on the back burner as needed.

Thanks for your hard work.

Hey Rick
Thank you very much!
Will do your revisions tonight. I'll post for final approval.
Once that is ok, I'll get you all the files you need.
I prefer sending out a cd with all of the files on it.
If that's OK please email me your mailing address and I'll get it right out

My email: markzewe@sbcglobal.net

On the tiff file are you IBM or Mac?

I really appreciate the win
