WE HAVE ADDED YET ANOTHER COMPETITION PART FOR ANOTHER $200. This is for a do IT fluid "icon".
- this part of competition won by DesignGeneral
NOTE --> BOTH OTHER COMPETITIONS STILL RUNNING
We have decided to split this competition into 2 sub-competitions. Each sub-competition is for a prize of $200, bringing the total prize to $400.
The first sub-competition is this competition as it stands. I.e, the main do IT fluid company logo.
The second sub-competition is for a logo for use on the Welsh-only pages of the do IT fluid WebSite. This can be a variation on a main logo idea, or something completely different. Please, make the Welsh logo COMPLETELY Welsh. No holds-barred!
The prizes will be issues separately for each sub-competition. The sub-competitions could well be won by different designers, or by one designer entering logos into both sub-competitions.
Hello everyone,
We are looking for a company logo for our new venture "do IT fluid".
do IT fluid (which can be abbreviated to dIf), is a limited company registered in Wales (UK). We are a small software development company, specialising in providing software solutions to small local businesses. Our way of working is to visit the premises of companies "we like" (for example, the headquarters of the business is the company secretaries farm, and one of our clients is the shop we buy the donkey feed from!), and spend time with them, seeing how they use technology. We then work with them to tie all there existing systems together, and take them forward.
The "fluid" in the name is because we try to be just that. For example, imagine a solder joint being formed --> the fluid metal linking two joints together to complete the circuit. However, please dont focus on that analogy too hard, as its only 1 of many.
The "do IT" part is supposed to be trendy --< something that would "trip from the tongue" of the media in news articles, etc, about us. Its supposed to be a form of encouragement to the client to go ahead and trust us and "do IT" (as in , sign here!). The "IT" is capitalised because we are an I.T company. No other reason.
Lastly, the work we are doing at the moment (the contracts to local companies), is only a "means to an end". We are currently getting patents to some ideas that we need money to take forward. Hence the contracts. The patents are in area of 3D modelling and user interaction within the 3D worlds. Although we dont want too much focus here (incase the patents fall through and we have to stick to contacts), we would like a small "something" that points to our dream here.
Some random thoughts.
- We like "fluid" things --> though not just water! For example, marbles are fluid, the way they roll and stay as a bunch, then move off randomly as their kinetic energy reduces
- We like bright colours, but also more muted "60's" tones.
- We dont know whether to use "do IT fluid" or "dIf" as the logo. Ideally, we would like the prize winner to submit both a full worded logo, and a dIf logo. We are willing to up the money a bit (another $50 Amazon token?) for this.
What else.... we have a Site --> www.doITfluid.com --> but its empty! After we have a logo, we will enter a template competition to remedy this.
- It would be nice to have some Welsh influence (again, make it small though!). The emblon for Wales is the dragon (do a search on Google for the Welsh flag --> its cool).
Let me know if you need anymore input. We have spent some time looking around the forums, and are very impressed by the work going on, so we hope this competition is interesting enough to get people involved.
King regard,
Matt Caton

And here is a lightbox link to Corbis of some images we like!
Please feel free to take inspiration from these, but to be honest, our ideas may be sooo far off course to make them unusable. Still, even if the ideas dont get directly used, they give a little more insight into our personalities (maybe!).
Link to lightbox (http://pro.corbis.com/myfolders/viewLightbox.asp?fdid=%7Be136148d%2D141d%2D4e90%2D 9a7f%2Dbbb98cc1634e%7D)

One last thing about where we wish to go with this logo....
We would like to be able to form "hybrids" of our logo, for our clients.
For example,
Say our logo is...
do IT fluid
... it would be nice to be able to do
your company@
do IT fluid
Get the idea?
So, I guess this means two logo?
One our main company logo and the other a customisable version where I just load the image in and edit the header text of the company we are working with.
Obviously this is a fair chuck of more work. So... when this competition has finished, we will start another for the "customisable" version.
Kind regards,
Matt Caton

Last post for now, I promise:)
The company HQ is on a working hill farm in Wales, and the software development takes place aboard a "narrowboat" in London. We aren't really looking for a "conventional IT company" type logo. B)

Thanks Pennyln and Julie for posting some entries so quicky.
Julie
-----
Love the font --> I think that is pretty much spot on.
The brown and green muted shades are awsome --> very "open university" which appeals to my inner geek.
Pennyln
---------
Love the striking simplicity of the entry. Everything will be against a white background, and this really stands out.
The green and red from the flag are a great idea.
Like the marble idea, and the way you have stylised them so simply.
Is there any way the marbles could be doing something more exciting? Not sure what though... I will think and get back to this.
Dont like the font --> the font Julie has used I really like
One idea I had was to have a series of logo with the marbles in different positions on each. Kind of like making the marbles a "living entity" --> like the company mascot. There could then be a core "shape" that is personified enough for people to find cute, and then this shape can morph into other shapes. This could lead to some cool animated gifs in the future. Just an idea.
Additionally, the marbles could then be used as WebSite buttons, etc?
Julie
-----
Is the logo a stylised atom symbol? I like the "agricultural" colouring, but not the actual shape.
Will post more when Im feeling inspired.
Thanks for the hard work,
Matt

On the theme of a character made of marbles that can morph (fluidly) into other shapes....
1) The other shapes could include the logos of companies we work with?
2) Could the main shape be the Welsh dragon, or a bit of the dragon. Would that be too much detail and not work when reproduced small?
Anybody got a feel for if this is a good or bad idea?
On point 2), I suppose there could be 2 logos? One small and simple, maybe just "dIf" and some marbles, and then the other more detailed with "doITfluid" and the dragon part?
Just an idea,
Thanks
Matt

In response to your question, I think the simpler you are with your logo, the more noticeable it is. Instead, to represent the Welsh flag, both Bill and I used colors, more or less from the flag--that's how its symbolic of the flag.
True, my colors aren't exact, but that's because you mentioned you liked those types of colors and because I wanted to go for a warm, welcoming feeling
Here's my next try...let me know if I'm going in the right direction :)

Thanks Julie -- I took a look at the Amazon Site just now, and completely agree with you --< simple is best.
I hadnt picked up on the colours you picked being from the flag --> sorry about that. I love the "warmth" of them as you say. Could the brown colour (this may be my monitor being funny), be made more reddy? Kind of like a rich scaly dragon red? Appologies if the brown is actually red in the first place --< Im writing this on my laptop.
Regarding the actual logo...
I was looking at the amazon a to z arrow thing. I like the way this holds the logo together. Is there anything that could be done with the dragons tail or tongue to get a similar effect? Is there anyway of creating a really simple dragon shape from the petal blocks you have drawn.
Love the font, like the direction you are going with the colours (though I also like Bills red and green).
Like the top most logo the best of the last three. They are very fluid, and almost seem to move when you look at them. However, they are too abstract for my liking --> I would like the shape to convey something concrete about the company that is fluid.
Some rough examples...
1) a dragon shape, just out of patriotism :D
2) Maybe a slightly more 3D shape, conveying the 3d modelling angle?
3) The second logo of yours is almost a paw print... Maybe a dragons paw print is possible ? I really like this idea...
Thanks,
Matt
Julie
03-20-2004, 07:55 AM
Ok--Here's how I imagine a dragon's paw print might look, and I've given the top two a 3-D look with a gradient. Beware, though, the gradient tends to be more expensive to reproduce, so if you decide you like it, I can provide a gradient version and a plain version just in case you decide to use both.

Thanks again for peoples hard work with the entries. Im going to do some "consumer research" (take the laptop into the clubhouse! and buy a round in :P ) and get lots of feedback for everyone. For now, heres mine:
Julie
-----
Thanks for making the colour more red --> can it go even more red?
Like the shadowing and the contours, and like the idea of 2 versions (one cheaper to print).
Im going to do some research to find you some dragon feet/prints/teeth, that kind of thing, to see if that idea will go anywhere. The paw needs to be bigger I suppose, but not sure how that would fit in.
Frank
------
Thanks for joining the competition. I really like your ideas. The fluid marbles look kinda like dragon smoke B) Sorry for going on and on about the dragon link BTW.
The last image is great --> how about making the red curved box like the flag background? That would be fantastic --> so split it in the middle and make the bottom green and the top white?
Like the font too --> very hip hop like --> and would look great in print.
Can see the bubbles working well on buttons, etc.
The first image is also nice as its very simple. Thinking about the WebSite (next stage after logo), we would like a very straight forward "ipod-like" design --> this logo would fit well.
Anyways, will post again after the "consumer research" with some more feedback.
Thanks
Matt

Thanks again for the revisions:
We are off for a jaunt on the river in a moment --> so will write more later. For now:
Bill
----
Like the revisions. The comments I am getting here are that the marbles linking the two d's in the top logo convey the the notion of our business working from end-to-end, and completing. Additionally, everyone likes the simplicity and boldness and clearness, that make it really stand out. Like the font revision.
Anyother ideas that link the two d's you can think of? We will ponder this today as well.
Frank
------
The bubbles are cool --> but someone here was worried they look a bit like piles :P They like the concept --> is there anything you could do to make them look more "fluid"?
I like the font, but someone here thinks it a bit cluttered and hard to read. Anyway of making it clearer whilst maintaining the same feel? Like the curved box background --> still think it may look cool with the flag background colouring.
Hope everyone is well on this fabulous sunny day (in London at least). Still some hair-raising winds rocking my office though
Thanks

Hi Matt,
thanks for the feedback - will come up with revisions later.
One note though - from experience I can tell you that there will always be people around you that like or dislike a certain element of a logo; so in the end it should really be you and no one else making a decision and having an opinion. You just can't please everyone that you ask and trying to do so most time results in a design that has lost any edge and personality because it tries to please everyone.Won't work.
Just meant as a general comment on asking friends/collegues/etc. :)
Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank. Thanks for the suggestions. My gut feel is exactly as you say -> trust your own instinct and go with the flow. Its nice to have a professional designer reassure me that this is the way to go. It is very easy to start to worry about things once everyone in the research group has taken a look. For example, I can read the font you used just fine. But 1 person of 10 mentioned it a bit tricky.... But, the font works really well with your curved background... Its soooooo hard :help: But, sooooo fun as well
Its really hard turning your own feelings on a logo into a brief, and then giving feedback that is useful, but not too leading. I'll get there soon.
To all
------
1) Do you think its worth me having a 2nd version of the logo that is just "dIf", for the main link on the WebSite, etc. Or this part of the brief for a template competition?
2) The logo will be used on a WebSite, van, letter head and business card. All designs so far I think would work fine with respect to all these placements.
I thought of more to write whilst out this afternoon 0-> but have now forgotten it. Will post it once Ive meditated on it all a bit longer.
Thanks everyone.

Bill-
I was looking at your designs again, and they have reminded me of how I mentioned at the start whether it would be possible to have multiple logos, each nearly the same but with the marbles in different places. So, for your logo ideas...
The top one --< general logo, showing the "end-to-end" business goal
The middle one --< Looks like 2 pensive beards --< maybe represents the client liason/planning stage.
The bottom one --> the circle could represent an iterative approach to develop/test/develop, etc.
Just an idea.
Cheers!

Hello Mark --> thanks for your entry B)
Like your red and green colour choices --> they are almost "plasticine" like in their styles.
This logo says lots to me :
1) Stylised dragon claw
2) A "fluid" cold flame on a cube 00> one of the 3d modelling primitives
3) A plinth with an olympic like fluid flame on it --> standing for excellence.
.. and probably a few more.
Which of these (or another) angle best fits your concept?
Is 1) above a good idea? It sounds good to me, but Im very close to the dragon theme so find it hard to know if Im pushing it too far,
Anyway of making it a bit more clawlike? Whilst maintaining the primitive objects look?
Thanks again
Matt
Matt,
It seems I made a mistake in this entry by not telling you how many colors are involved in the reproduction of this logo. Also, I was supposed to include a solid version as stated in the DO rules. I apologise for this.
First let me tell you that I designed it using cmyk. This means that if you were to get it printed on letterhead, etc. it would need to be created in four colors using screens of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black creating the colors you see here.
Before I continue and make modifications to design, I need to know if you are comfortable with this. I can create a 2 color version of this logo, but it will no longer have the look and feel that it does now. As for use on the web, this is not an issue.
LongboatHarry
03-22-2004, 03:52 AM
Hello Mark. This is our first DO competition, so I wasnt aware of that either ;) Thanks for the additional info -->
We are very happy with having more colours at the expense of a more expensive print run. We wont be doing any mass mailings, and most communication will be electronic anyway.
Will post some more feedback soon.
Cheers!

Mark
------
We like the look of your logo --> there is something appealing about the droplet and the primitive cube. And the plasticine shades are nice too.
Could you explain a little what your concept is, so we can give some useful feedback?
Thanks for the hard work,
Regards,
Matt
My concept is intended to show the infusion of what you are and what you will be doing in a futuristic sense. For example, the liquid (you) is dropping into the 3d world (network) to show the progressiveness of your actions and what your ultimate goal is... In other words it shows that you've begun the merge and will continue forward as the fluid seeps in.
The colours of course are to represents the Welsh flag. ;)

What a fantastic way to start my day everyone --> thanks and respect to all. Great to see some new entries.
Mark
------
Thanks for the very descriptive concept. We were basically thinking the same kind of thing --< but its nice to check.
With that in mind, the only revision we would love to see would be to "make it more atomic". Hard to explain what I mean, but here are a few suggestions:
1) The space between the T and the f looks a tiny bit too much for my eye, breaking the fluidity of the logo.
2) My eye is shouting for the flow of words to be slightly different. Maybe put the "do IT" above the fluid, or something. Just to "tighten" it all a bit,
3) Could you show one with just "dIf" as well?
Everything else is great --> font, colours, shapes, very appealing.
Dynagirl
----------
Thanks for the entry. This fits exactly with our early ideas of a logo! Where the yellow in your logo represents the client, and the blue (dIf), washing over the client. Like a tide coming in and cleansing a coastline, so then go out again leaving order.
My only worry with it is that it makes us look like we are a water-related company. I think the fluid font combined with the fluid colours are the reason for this. Any chance of a revision with stronger colours?
Diane
-------
Wow :) That is certainly an impressive logo! Fantastic mix of Welsh dragons, geeky font placing and patriotic colouring!
This makes me want two logos for dIf. The main logo would be something more subtle (like the other entries), but all our Welsh clients would see a logo like yours on their client home pages on the dIf Site. Need to think about this some more, but a big thankyou for opening this line of thought.
1) The marbles are great --< can I see a revision with just "dIf" and the marbles?
2) Can you try using more bright and sparky reds and greens?
3) Is there a way of making the dragon wing into a fused "d" and "I" somehow. This combined with the main body looking like an "f" would give us an amazing logo for our Welsh language pages.

Thanks for the very speedy revision :)
1) Like the tail of the "f" holding up the "IT" --< nice. Very much "the fluidity" holding up the "IT". Great metaphor.
2) Prefered the outlines in grey as in the very first set of logos. The black in the new revision seems to muddy the colours a bit.
3) Thanks for trying new colours. I now actually think you were right with the blue and yellow. Sorry  To make it less water company and more IT like, could you try it with slightly more "futuristic" blues and yellows? Maybe a gradient to make it look like waves on a sphere?
One last request, could you show me just "dIf" in the font you use. So, the "d" and the "I" resting on the tail of the "f"?

Some more feedback from people here. The general feeling is that a "no holds barred" Welsh logo would be a great idea for the Welsh only WebSite pages.
1) Loved the marbles going through the logo, bringing it together
2) Can we see an additional revision with the dragon being a "d" and being used as the d in "do" and the d in "fluid". One at each end, framing the logo.
Thanks

Someone here has suggested a "Welsh-only" revision of your logo with a dragons wing fitting around part of the logo. For this "Welsh-only" revision, the background could be green and white, like the flag?

Sorry to bombard you with feedback.
Heres another possible revision.
How about the dragon on the right of the text, so you are forced to read the "do IT fluid" first, This would also "hold" the font.
Also, how hard would it be to make the dragon a bit less stylised and more "dragon-like"?
Thanks for obvious hard work.

We have decided to have two competitions now. The existing competition stands as it is, and is for the main corporate logo. There will be soon a twin competition (for another $200) for the Welsh only version. Shall work out how to do this soon and get back to you all.
Is it easiest to just raise this competition to 2 X 200 or should we open a new competition?

We have decided to split this competition into 2 sub-competitions. Each sub-competition is for a prize of $200, bringing the total prize to $400.
The first sub-competition is this competition as it stands. I.e, the main do IT fluid company logo.
The second sub-competition is for a logo for use on the Welsh-only pages of the do IT fluid WebSite. This can be a variation on a main logo idea, or something completely different. Please, make the Welsh logo COMPLETELY Welsh. No holds-barred!

Matt I know that the designers will do research on Wales and the Welsh but if you have anything you can post that might help them that would be great, will you have your company name in Welsh or is it the same?
Cheers :)
LongboatHarry
03-23-2004, 03:42 PM
Hi Michael --> To clarify, the company name will remain "do IT fluid" for both the standard and Welsh logos.
The Welsh and standard logos need not necessarily be related. To clarify though:
1) The main logo must be "logo-like". All the existing entries are on target for this.
2) The Welsh logo can be as mad as you like. I envisage this logo being used within the secure client-only areas of the Web Site for our Welsh clients, as well as for a flag to be erected at the HQ in Wales. Dianes logo is an example of this.
To reassure all designers --> the previous competition has become the "main logo" sub-competition, so all entries up to now are still valid.
We will post up some more resources tomorrow. The flag is available from an early post, showing the Welsh dragon and the colours.
LongboatHarry
03-23-2004, 03:44 PM
From now on, when entering a logo, please include whether its for the "main logo" or "Welsh logo" sub-competition.
Thanks everyone! We promise to not complicate matters any further :)

This is reverting back to a blue/yellow color scheme, but with a different blue and also a different gray in there (the earlier grey I'd used was more of a blue-grey and that doesn't work well with this type of blue).
<img src='http://www.frobo.com/graphic_work/doit/doit3.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
The set below shows some slight color variations and displays the logo with the initials instead of the full name.

Appologies for taking a while to feedback. Got carried away yesterday with working out how to split the competition.
Your entry shouts "IT" (as in, "we are a software development house") more loudly than others, so thanks for showing a pure entry. The monotone effect is very "serious" and "precise". I suppose these are qualities we should have in the company :P
However, we prefer more "bright" looks --> Can you think of anything along those lines. Sorry for being (as ever!) soooooo vague with my descriptions.

Like the new revisions a lot. We think the shortened "dif" with the marble are especially effective. Really like the long tailed f with the IT on top.
The colours still arent quite right though.... We really like the bright greens and reds other designers are using. Its great to see other colour ideas though -- so thanks for trying them.
It would be great to see some gradient fill revision as well.
Thanks!

Thanks for entering the competition. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
1) Love the colour and the "texture" of the colour. Reminds of me of something (something good :) ) but cant think what. Very 60's. I mentioned liking this kind of effect in the brief, so thanks for picking that up.
2) Love the white piping around the shape --< goes very well with the colour.
3) Dont like infinity symbols though Im afraid. Though I must admit that it works very well with the ideas of fluidity, etc.
Looking forward to seeing how it works with the font. I shall think about the shape more over the day.
Thanks again,

Your shape curves inwards. Now, what about...
1) Make the shape curve outwards, to form a "track"
2) Place a marble on the track
3) The marble could then go round and round for ever. Keeping with the "infinity" idea. A marble going around for ever is very "fluid" as well.

Thanks for the bundle of revisions. Very appreciated.
Like those much more with the colour. Love the shadow of the marbles in the background.
This is also a real runner with having lots of different logos, all with the marbles in different places. I really like the idea of every time you look at the logo, the marbles have moved position.

Anyone got any ideas for the Welsh only version?
For designers that have entered the "main logo" competition, this could just be a variation on that, with some Welsh element. For example, wrapping the logo in dragons wings, or putting the flag in the background, etc. Remember, the Welsh version is an additional $200
For designers not interested in the main logo, the Welsh version can be wacky as you like. Dont feel it has to be IT related, etc. We are after something that celebrates Wales (and is vaguely fluid)
Thanks all!

- Thanks for the Welsh revision and trying out the idea of the "claw". You've done a fantastic job with it --> I thought it may be "too much" but it really works. I can imagine a really cool morph animation of the original cube transforming to the claw.
- How hard would it be to make the claw look more "claw-like". At the minute, it looks a bit like a carrot :P Just let me know how realistic this would be, so that if your design is chosen as the winner it could be done as the final revision.

Thanks for the revisions. The Welsh colours look great as a backdrop to the bubbles.
However  the background is actually the Italian flag, as you have bordered the top with red. I can see the problem though, if you have just green and white, the flag disappears into the white background... Hummmm. And I dont like the idea of bordering with black. Maybe the white top border disappearing into the background would look okay.
The concept is working okay though.
Thanks again,

Thanks for the feedback :)
Actually it's not the italian flag as that one has vertical stripes unlike my design which has horizontal ones. But I agree, it could too easily be mistaken for "italian".
Anyways, I think I have found some quite nice solutions:
3a and 3b just red&green background with the bubbles being white
3c with green and white background but shadowed with red bubbles
Thanks,

All,
We have had some amazing entries, thanks for everyones efforts.
The deadline for this competition is April 7th. However, after the initial rush of LOADS of entries, we have noticed a slow down now.
We imagine this is because all the designers that are going to enter have done. We dont want to continue until April 7th if all entries are actually in.
Could anyone with entries outstanding, or who wants to enter, raise a hand and let me know? We are more than happy to keep to the April 7th deadline if necessary.
If we havent heard any "wait for me's" by next Wednesday, we will end the competition on April 1st and announce the winners then.
Many thanks -- this has truely been a rewarding and fun experience.

I really like the graphic. Very original, and would be easily recognisable (in time) without the need for the company name to be next to it. Opens loads of doors for cool advertising with just the dragons tail.
Really like the font placement --< very much like being told at full volume to "DO IT", and then in a quieter and reassuring voice "fluid".
The shadow really ties it together - makes it very professional looking.
Cant think of anything that would need changing. The red is nicely leaning into orange, and the green is very grassy. Nice.
Like the font placement as I said, but not 100% sure about the actual font. Need to stare at it longer.

Thanks for entering the competition :D
Like the simplicity --> makes it very memorable and instantly recognisable.
The fluid waves are great --> they almost look alive with the gradients you have chosen --> almost like abstract dragons.
Like the way the IT stands out in read.
Can we see a revision with the wording without spaces?
Eagle
------
We LOVE the tagline :P We might even use it ! Whether rightly or wrongly, we are very much after a logo and tagline that doesn't shout IT. We arent very client facing --> we look for the clients, not vice versa, so we are in the luxorious position of being able to play around with our logo.
The icon is great. Love the musical note made from the d and f, and the map is inspired as the hollow.
Prefer Fluid written fluid (small f).
Prefer the non-gradient version.
Great choice of green and red hues. Very organic and vibrant.
Can we see a revision with
1- small f
2- non gradient
3- tagline included in IT-like grey B)
Alex
-----
Thanks for persevering with this. I think the reason its so hard is that as I said to Eagle, we arent necessarily after a logo that shouts IT. As long as its fresh, cool, Welsh-like and "fluid", we can run with it. If our software patents come off, (and we are able to actually code them!), then the company will be in the media spotline for a while. A logo that people think is cool when watching the news is more important to us than one people will spot in the Yellow Pages when chosing a software outsourcing company.
Thanks all!

Love the revisions. The map of Wales in the hollow of the icon conveys a real feel of professionalism, and seems more pronounced now that its non-gradient. Much prefer the small f.
Still really like the tagline
I can really picture some bemused locals scratching theirs heads as the van wizzes past them --> enough to make them check out the WebSite, which will be a real bonus. They already think do IT fluid is an oil company, so references to druids will get them all talking again :D
Was the Welsh from a friend or a google translation? Thanks for going the extra mile with it. As you say, its no problem to get it verified. We are unfortunately not Welsh speakers --> but a quick stroll down to the next farm will find some help.
Thanks!

- MUCH prefer the font. Definitely the right direction.
- However, I think now I would prefer "do it fluid" to be all the same size (or at least closer in size) as at the moment, it looks like the company name is "DO IT" with a tagline of "fluid".
- The colours in the Welsh version have gone a bit jaded --> The original red and green you used were perfect.
Love the main version :) --> Ive added it to the main version shortlist. Just an idea regarding it....
Is it possible to make the main version like follows:
1) On its own, it looks like the fluid wave, like you have drawn
2) However, when placed to the left of the Welsh version, it would form the whole dragons tail. I suppose it would mean having the tail of the Welsh version starting from the left of the logo, not the bottom.
Regarding this idea, feel free to shout "MAD" :o
Lastly
------
Really liked the grey shadow on the first version, as when you made drew this on its own (bottom left piccy), it forms a really nice watermark type effect.
Thanks for the hard work,
Matt

Just one other thing :P ,
Looking at the 1st entry and revision side-by-side, we really like the way the tail in the first entry is transparent, showing the shadow in the background. Would this be possible for the new revisions (both main and Welsh) ? LOVE the colours of the original entry.
Thanks
Michael
04-05-2004, 03:21 PM
Sure ;)
I have been trying to rack my brains on your idea I think it would look great, I will sleep on it :)
The aim of my submission for the main logo was to represent 'Fluid'
LongboatHarry
04-06-2004, 01:03 AM
Michael
--------
Yep --> we like the way the main logo represents fluid.
The idea of making it turn into part of the tail when next to the Welsh logo is like a "hidden extra" B)
That would kind of give us 3 logos :P
1) The main one on its own --> fluid
2) The Welsh one on its own --> Dragon tail
3) Both together, the Optimus Prime extended tail
Maybe....
Use (1) when working with non-Welsh clients
Use (2) when working with Welsh clients
Use (3) in all advertising?
If you wake up this morning and go, " :( ", then its probably one of my bad ideas that should be forgotten immediately ;)
Thanks

Michael
---------
No probs --> if the logos dont go together its no probs. The following is more important
1) Font
2) colours back to the originals
3) Shadowing back to the originals
Maybe I will open up Paint (I have PhotoShop, but have no clue how to use it!), and sketch out how I see the join happening. Basically
1) Keep the English logo roughly the same
2) Make the dragon tail in the Welsh logo start from the left (not the bottom) and it should meet up nicely. Obviously the curl will have to go clockwise now, instead of anti-clockwise for this.

Its not just that they are all so good, its that they are all very different, and say very different things about the company. Maybe we need to talk to the bank manager about buying them all ;)
Depending on the hat I have on (sales, development, marketing, etc), I love a different logo.
Anyway, shall probably come back with a revised top 3 again and then wittle to 1 over the course of the day.

MOZ :)
---------
Sorry, you posted as I posted so missed yours just now. We were hoping you would enter as we really like some of the designs you have come up with in other competitions, so thanks for squeezing in past the deadline B)
Really like it. Can see that one working really well on a business card or as a page spanning letter head. The balance of the reds, blues and yellow is very cool. And love the abstract fluidity. Very much fits the brief of us and our clients working together fluidly.
Can see it as a banner advert actually... We will be advertising ourselves on all our client WebSites (part of the contractual obligation of the client to help keep our charging down). Will think more about this, as we are putting up our Website template competition some time today.
Thanks

I think the text stand out without icon too :D
Thank you
I've been sickly lately and its really affecting my output. I see the DR in a couple of days should be old self by weekend. The art is from one of my huge fineart pieces. I didn't think it right for the logo, but maybe future print or banner as you posted
Good luck on your choice, the gang really came out for you!

Right, quick board meeting later B)
We have still come to no final decision regarding the 2 logos.
HOWEVER, we have decided that we LOVE DesignGenerals icon (Apr 6 2004, 04:32PM revision). Hence we are adding ANOTHER $200 into the competition pot (bringing it to $600) and opening the new competition :
"Design an icon for do IT fluid"
However, DesignGeneral wins this straight away, so well done to you  We will get another $200 into the competition kitty straight away, and update the competition brief accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE, the main competitions (Main and Welsh Logos) are STILL OPEN. We will decide the winner of the logo competitions ASAP.

The icon we love (and that has won the new "Icon" competition you made us realise we needed!) is the "Apr 6 2004 04:32 PM" revision. No more revisions needed on it --> PERFECT as it is. No text, just exactly as it is there. Im about to post the additional $200 now, and will contact 2Square/Palmer to ask them to verify its been received. Well done --> that is an inspired piece of work.

MOZ (and all)
-----------------------
And an unreserved thanks to all you guys.:notworthy:
Ive found when working in the past for small companies, and especially now in being involved with a startup, what makes the difference between winning and losing is being able to work with "electric" people. People that almost buzz with new ideas and creativity, and with the ability to carry it off as well. Design Outpost is brimming with this kind of energy. Its been a real honour to work with you all. For example, we had no idea that dIf would benefit from an "icon". However, now we see what is possible, we can envisage some powerful opportunities for marketing and impact advertising that we now have.
All of the logo entries are awsome as well.

New subpart competition
We all love the 3d dragon and high impact do IT fluid logo by Arthouse, posted "Apr 6 2004 07:38".
We're not sure we want this as our logo --> but we love it soooo much we cant afford to not buy it as an investment. Its just toooooo cool to let pass by.
So, new sub-part competition, "design a logo that were not sure we will use straight away, but is sooo cool we must buy it" has been launched for another $200 and gets won straight away by Arthouse
2Square --> I'll post the additional $200 in a couple of minutes. Can you post a message here when you get it? Ta.
WELL DONE Arthouse

Hit a slight snag trying to get the last $200 across (to bring it up to $800).
The paypal limit for a month appears to be $750.... which only leaves me $90 left this month (after the commission), until I apply for some kind of "Paypal extension thing". I have done this, but it takes 4 days to go through....
Someone will be in later on to the office with a different credit card, so we will post the $200 up then. We'll post back here once its done.

..and a sincere thanks to EVERYONE who has entered this competition. Seriously, we would have been proud with ANY of the entries. They were all such high quality, with each one being original and saying something different (and highly valid) about the company.
It was truely a hard choice naming our favourite (and impossible at times, hence the mad doubling of prize money over the course of today!).
Thanks again, its been a real privilege working with you all. :notworthy:

Michael :D
We have had a great time running this competition! We are all feeling a bit depressed now its over! Bit like when the World Cup ends or something... you wonder how you ever managed without it!
As for revisions, nothing major:
1) If possible, we would like, for each of the logos
a ) wording below (like final Welsh version)
b ) wording across (like final main version)
c ) wording to left (like revisions on page 7)
If this is anymore work than just dragging the wording around, let me know as I dont want you to spend too long on it.
2) The second revision is to get your designs and Arthouses to have the same feel with the fonts. Maybe just use the same font and font colours? Any ideas? Should we use your font or Arthouses?
EVERYTHING else is PERFECT. Colours in the final revision are just beautifully balanced, and the shadows are spot on.
Thanks!

Is it okay if we have all 3 of the logo versions for "Apr 6 2004, 07:38" ? We would love to be able to use a different variation on the logo depending on screen layout, etc.
Would it also be okay to have the dragon on its own as a separate image.
Let me know if that is asking too much.
Revisions for you (again, very minor)
1) On the bottom logo, move the dragon SLIGHTLY left or right, as where he is at the moment makes the U look like an O
2) We would like your font and Michaels font to look the same or similar. Any ideas on how to do this?
Thanks, the dragon piccy is just irresistible

Well, this is a nice surprise to wake up to... Thanks! Absolutley, I'll package up the files and PM you information on how to download them soon.
Thanks again, it was certainly one for the books!
Congrats DG, as well.
Just out of curiosity, should I adjust these to match any specific Pantone colors that the other designs utilize, or should I keep these as is and just format black and whites?
