The Desktop Funnies logo DOES NOT need to work with our Full Tilt Features logo.

Explanation:

Our existing product "Desktop Funnies" will soon be recoded for Flash delivery. Each cartoonist will have a basic flash template from which they may design their own unique page for their particular feature. On each of these pages, as well as a central site, we need a Desktop Funnies logo.

Challenge:

The challenge is that every cartoonist's work is different, some more cartoony, some more realistic; some modern, some retro; and all pages will have its own color palette. The logo must work with ALL of these varied looks and colors.

Suggestion:

One potential idea I like is to have a computer monitor wearing false glasses and nose (that old traditional joke), with "Desktop Funnies" somehow tied into it, perhaps with the monitor a separate piece of the logo, so that we have the option of using the monitor AND the words, or just the words, as the case may require. (On all these cartoonist pages, it will be the complete logo, whatever it is.)

Again, this is just one idea. I'm not married to it.

Added plus:

Since we will be using Flash heavily, if the logo can eventually be animated (YOU don't have to do this part!), then that would be a plus. For example, I can envision this monitor (suggested above), sticking out a large tongue and giving a wet "raspberry," perhaps laughing on another occation, that kind of thing.

Must have:

The logo needs to be amusing to look at, imparting energy and fun.

Deadline:

I intend to make the decision on April Fools Day, as that seems fitting. :)
I would appreciate an immediate post of your intent to participate.

Thanks, Chocolate. I think all that black makes it look too heavy. In fact, the whole thing seems too blocky and stiff to me.

Moz, your design did make me smile, but it's much too busy. I'd prefer the glasses and nose without the eyebrows and mustache. I like your rendition of the computer.

Of course, there doesn't HAVE to be a computer at all.

The font makes it busy. As for the glasses & nose I've never seen one with out the eyebrows & mustache..that's part of the fun.

Okay, here it is...

You know how in comic strips there are often "sound effects," like Plop!, Bam!, Kaboom!, Splop!...?

We're keeping "Desktop Funnies," but it will be more like the tag line. The main name will be
BONK!

So the logo needs to be

BONK!

Should be easy. Please keep it simple, but with energy and freshness -- and no computer!

Not bad, muvment, but it looks "comic BOOK"...we do comic STRIPS. It's too heavy.

OH NO!... I just found out that "BONK!" has a sexual meaning, too. :huh: UGH!...I hadn't thought of that!!

Now we're going to have to come up with another "sound-effect-word"...but no matter...you can still design it with the font and all using "bonk!"...we can change the letters later, if that's okay.

Yeah, that's not bad, Moz. I wonder if that one is "safe." I was also thinking of "Zing!," which is similar, but I don't think that would be too familiar as a comic sound.

EDIT: I just got this from one of our Full Tilt Features group:
..."BOING" is the sound some guys makes in reference to a hottie walking by. it announces to the boys that said hottie is...uhh..."exciting"...

So that one isn't going to work either. SIGH

Carl, I like what you did with "Desktop Funnies," I.e., putting it in a word balloon. And I see what you are trying to do with the 2 squares, but I think it makes the two parts look too disconnected.

Cute, Chocolate. Looks very 60s and very "happy"...though I think it's a bit too young and girlish for what we need...would be great for a girl's clothing line.

Moz, I'm actually not crazy about yours (though the tongue idea is fun!), but I'm going to reward you the prize, anyway. Turns out "popp.com" is not available. Neithe is "ppop.com"...I've decided to go in a different direction, but I certainly won't change this contest once again, as I don't think that would be fair.

So even though I can't use any of this, Moz tried hardest to please me, so I'm going to reward him with the money and put this contest to bed.
