http://www.Ohme-Ohmy.com needs a new design. I do not need HTML markup on the end product, just an unflattened photoshop file. Though if you want to do the markup you can.
Here are the requirements:
1. New site name: "Oh Me, Oh My! Personalized Gifts"
2. The menu must be text based.
3. There must be room for text links/copyrights at the bottom.
If you do the markup the "view cart" link needs to be form based.
The actual menu items needed are:
Personalized Gifts
Personalized Letters
Letters from Santa Claus
Keepsake Prints
Personalized Storybooks
Wooden Keepsakes
So make sure that they can fit in your menu area in a reasonable text size.
Deadline: March 31st.
Just be creative, there are no predetermined color requirements or style requirements. The target audience is parents with young children.

Nice prize amount ;) I'll be entering in a few days.

See I already told the client that I could setup a contest for him here for $150. I thought you took the fee from the amount, not charged a fee in addition to the amount.

No problem, just thought it was funny that you didn't round it off to lets say $135 :)

This is my first entry for the contest. After putting it together I thought that it could be better if lightened. I'll put together another concept with brighter colors. Please give as much feedback as possible so I can provide another, better comp. Thank you for your time.

I do like the logo, but ya, definitely lighter colors. I'd also use earth tones or otherwise warm colors. The colors should convey a comforting feeling and they do most of their business around the holidays. (but don't go all christmasy on me).
Also just so you know the final decision is not mine, I'll be showing all your designs to the site owner.
I'm not sure how I feel about a top menu over a side one. I guess I'd prefer a side menu because one day the owner plans on adding more products and a left menu is easier to expand than a side menu.

Also wanted to tell you I put the word out to the designers that you only are asking for the photoshop file so you may have more entries that way. Could be a nice change of pace for those who only enter the logo contests.

Hi again,
I am not quite sure if this is the style that you are looking for, but it is a start.
Please let me know if you would like me to make any changes or start a new design.
Thanks,

Thats a nice design Pixelbreak, but not for this site. Its really cold and corporate, and that not the feeling I'm going for with this site.
The overall design should convey a feeling like this site:
http://www.oneofakindkid.com/
Without reading a thing someone should know that they are at a site that sellings children related items. Yellow is a good color to start with, yellow is used alot in conjunction with babies (if they don't know the sex) yellow is a bright, vibrant color. It carries a feeling of spring, and children are in the spring of their life. Just like green is the color for money, and red for passion, yellow is the color for youth.
Because the site sells wooden toys, and books (which are made of wood) brown or other earth tones would be a good color as well.

Ok, at least I now know what type of image you are after.
I will work on another template, and post back once it is mostly/all complete.

I still don't know if I have this kid thing down, but here is another entry from me.
It is meant to be expandable both vertically and horizontally.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,

Palmer...
The kid on the top right looks like he's crying ;) The colors are alright, it might be a little too "cool" though (I'm totally having Saved by the Bell flashbacks), the products this site sells are more traditional. Your use of actual children is very good as well.
Pixel...
I like the logo and the fonts but the the use of gray is a little too much, think lighter colors.
Also, for everyone, this site does not need a search box (it only has a handful of products).
I think it would help sell products if there were images of happy children opening gifts in the design (http://shopping.corbis.com/search/results.asp?search=children%20gift).
Here are some things to look at:
http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?te...rg2=&order=date (http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=1668&cat_type=cat&type=1&arg1=42&arg2=&order=date)
http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?te...rg2=&order=date (http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=1464&cat_type=cat&type=1&arg1=42&arg2=&order=date) (just a themed example, don't want something THAT christmasy).
http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?te...rg2=&order=date (http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=778&cat_type=cat&type=1&arg1=7&arg2=&order=date)
http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?te...rg2=&order=date (http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=1511&cat_type=cat&type=1&arg1=7&arg2=&order=date)
http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?te...rg2=&order=date (http://www.templatemonster.com/show.php?templ=283&cat_type=cat&type=1&arg1=7&arg2=&order=date)
Those examples aren't literal examples of what I want, but rather examples of sites that convey the emotions I want to convey with this design (although that teddy bear one is close to what I'm looking for... except the site doesn't sell bears).
The color yellow is a good choice for the reasons I mentioned before.
Also rounded shapes and corners are better because they promote a psychological sense of comfort and belongingness. This is a site for families, the products on the site will comfort your children... etc etc.
Straight lines present a more rigid, factual/scientific, or cold feeling.

I think that I have the color scheme that you want this time.
Although the layout may be a bit too techy for your tastes.
Regardless, please let me know what you think of the layout.
Thanks,
Robert Sperry
PS - I only included the pixel fonts because I thought they fit in the best. I will change them if you like the design and do not like the fonts.

Great improvement.
The brushed steel look where the title is, could you make that yellow like the menu?
Also could you extend that all the way to the left, I'm not a fan of that thing in the top left corner, it doesn't go with anything else on the page and looks orphaned.
I'd chance the font to something less edgy like Comic Sans MS as well... but I can always do that with the photoshop file.

Sure thing.
I will post the revisions sometime tomorrow (or rather later today).

Contest over, I'll let the client pick which one he likes - but I think its pretty obvious who the winner is.
For the winner the unflattened PSD (if you could include any odd fonts you used that'd be great) can be emailed to chris_at_thebeasleys.org
ahhhhh drats!!!!
I wanted to enter this comp and I didn't realise the closing date was so close.
sorry. :(
