[previous topic description]$100 prize amount, Deadline April 3[/edit]

I am very impressed with the logos I have seen in these contests, and am looking forward to acquiring a great logo for my business. I am a new embroidery business, with the name Merry Embroidery. (My last name is Merry.)

The look that I am seeking is something that is clean, classy, trendy with flair. As a little background on commercial embroidery...... it is closely tied in with computers. Embroiderers use digitizing software to work with graphics and text, arranging stitches to produce designs that will stitch well and be of nice artistic quality. If my logo could somehow convey this "high tech" aspect of embroidery, that would be great. I am targeting clients who want personalized and unique embroidery, as well as clients who might need more traditional items such as shirts for a golf team or wait staff.

I have uploaded a few graphics that my daughter did for me, that I hope to eventually use on my web pages. It will give you an idea of the style of graphics I like. http://ann.merry.home.insightbb.com/samplegraphics.htm

I really love the colors and graphics style on the Einstein Bros. Bagel site, too. http://www.einsteinbros.com/index.cfm

I would like to have the final design in EPS and JPG (300dpi).

One additional requirement would be to have the copyright of the winning design signed over to me.

I look forward to seeing your designs.

Deadline is April 3, 2004. Thank you.

Paula,
Thank you for submitting a design. I love the font you used for the larger text. At first glance the logo appears somewhat nautical...maybe the thread is looking more like rope to me? In my original post I should have said I like ALL of the colors on the Einstein Bros. Bagel site, not just the ones in their logo. There is a nice deep salmon color on this page http://www.nwrgistore.com/index.cfm?brand=1
and some cool colors on their home page. http://www.einsteinbros.com/index.cfm
If you had time to try some of these colors, I would be interested to see how they look. Thank you!

Hello, Ann. Here's my submission:

Paula,
I like all of those colors, but especially Versions B & D. And I like how you have revised the piece of thread. The logo now reminds me of the top of a spool of thread, rather than something nautical. I wondered about putting a needle in there, but that would probably be too many elements. I think it is just fine like you have it.
----------------------
Muvment,
Very nice! It has a nice clean look to it. I like it a lot, and can't think of any way in which to improve upon it. I can tell this will be a difficult choice for me because I am liking everything I see.

----------------------
Bethie,
I like your submission, too! The needle is very high-tech looking. Would you mind trying a different font? The reason I ask is because I will eventually digitize my logo so I can stitch it out. This one looks nice, but sometimes the simpler the font, the better it looks on a stitchout. Thank you.

Hi Ann, thanks so much for the quick feedback. Here's another shot with three diff. fonts and another color. Let me know if any of these work for you.

Bethie,
I like the first font out of those three new ones. The loops in the R and the B project the image of thread which ties in nicely.

Paula,
Some of the people I have shown the logos to sort of still get the impression of a life preserver. I am wondering if a needle could be inserted under the word Merry. Imagine a needle that is slid into and under the paper on the top of a spool. In this case the needle part that didn't show would be the part that was underneath the circle containing the web address. I hope that makes sense! thanks

******************

Muvment,
Could I please see the logo in the black and white version? Thanks so much.

******************

Bethie,
I wonder what the edges would look like if they were "pinked" ?(the zig zag edges like you sometimes see on a clothing label). And if you could also show it in the black and white version. Thanks!

Good morning, Ann - here's the pinked version and a couple of different black and white and one greyscale for you to take a look at. I just went with the yellow for this set, but can change any colors you may prefer.

Annia,
Thank you for your design. I like the colors, the needle and the curlique thread. The overall design has a nice clean look. I am trying to picture how it might look with just one spool of thread? Would that be a difficult change to make....? thanks!

*******

Paula,
Thank you for adding the needle to your design. What if you took out the 3 loops of thread that are not in the needle? I think then that this would definitely look like the top of a spool of thread, rather than anything related to nautical. Sorry I didn't think of that earlier when I asked to add the needle, but it just struck me that maybe those 3 loops wouldn't be necessary. Thank you.

*****

Muvment,
I appreciate the black and white version. That definitely looks crisp and clean!

*****

Bethie,
Thanks for doing the pinked version. I think your original idea with the little squares around it is more to my liking than the pinked edges, but guess I just had to see it to realize it.

Everyone,
Any of these designs would work for my business. I have shown them to friends and family for their input. We tend to like them all!!

One comment I might add is that in my initial request I thought I wanted a way to convey the connection between computers and embroidery to the potential embroidery customer. I haven't seen that in the logos submitted, and the more I think about it, maybe that is just not possible, or even necessary. Maybe adding this "computer" element to the logo would just be confusing to an embroidery customer. My reasoning for this was to make a distinction between embroidery and other types of sewing such as alterations businesses. The only idea I had was perhaps a thread/cord with a needle at one end and a computer mouse at the other end. So if anyone thinks that is a possibility, go for it. You guys are the designers and know better than me what works and what doesn't work in a design. Your designs are all classy, and that in itself, works well for embroidery.

The hard part about embroidery is that there isn't much to use other than spools, needle and thread. The commercial machine itself is probably not something that most potential embroidery customers have seen. Because of those things, I think that the traditional thread spools & needles are just fine to use in a logo, in a high-tech sort of way like you have done.

To summarize, any of these 4 logos would work for me. But I just wanted to give you all of my thoughts at this point. I am not trying to take this off in a different direction at all....just had referred back to my original posting to refresh my own memory! I am very pleased with the design submissions, and with all the revisions that you have graciously done. I will keep thinking about which one to choose!

Hi Ann

I hope this one works for you...

Avoiding the clichés (as much as possible!) this logo projects the stitch/embroidery aspect whilst conveying a modern and 'digitised' feel. Could be the 'clincher' for all those big corporate contracts?

The design is multi-coloured (as is your business!) but I've included a three colour design too...I'm sure you have a swatch book to hand. ;)

Let me have your thoughts.

Paula,
Thanks for removing the 3 thread loops. I like this look. And thanks for doing some computer/embroidery logos. I think I like the mouse rendition better than the computer monitor ones. You have given me even more to think about now!

Eagle,
Yes, I like it. It has a lot of punch. I think it would imprint itself into the customer's mind. I can't think of any way to improve upon it. This is definitely going to be a hard decision. I honestly like every entry that has come into this contest.

Muvment,
Thanks for trying that font. I think I like the one you used originally better than this one.

Moz,
Thank you for submitting an entry. I know I asked for a connection between computer and embroidery, but I think in this case maybe there is too much focus on the computer aspect. I do like the way the needle intersects the text, and the font on the computer monitor is cool too.

All:
I appreciate your hard work. I have scrolled thru these logos over and over, and truly like them all. You have made it very difficult for me to narrow it down to one choice.

After careful consideration, I have decided to select Muvment's first entry as the contest winner. This contest more than met my expectations. I hope to hold future contests for my embroidery customers who do not currently have logos.

NOTE TO PAULA: Could you please contact me....I need some graphics for my website and one of your designs might work. Thanks! ann.merry@insightbb.com

Again, thank you to everyone for giving me such a wonderful selection of quality logos to choose from.
