Hi Guys!

chuckle. I have decided to give more room thatn usual for this one:)

The illustration will be used as I always do in multiple ways. The primary purpose will be for a website on After Death in Ancient Egypt & Kemet Traditional Religion.

It will be the main image on the entry page

The site will include information on Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife (there were many as there are with us today)

In addition it includes a memorial shrine where current practitioners can light a candle and leave a prayer and watch the candle get shorter (Yeah Cursal/Brian) for 70 days..the traditional period between death and afterlife:)

And a shrine where people can leave letters to their ancestors in clay bowls as in ancinet times

So the illustration: helpful images will follow

General:

-- I want a scene similar to traditional but modern of afterlife
---I would like the scene to be under Nut (the sky goddess)
see for example:
http://maaber.50megs.com/images5/1-horus.gif
--I would would like there to be a presentation of a Ma'at statue
or else Ma'at be in the scene in some way
--- Some other appropriate gods/goddesses (I will list these)
----One or two people
--lucious offerings/feast/flowers etc

I will post appropriate photo images of traditional schemes I like..but feel free to be creative or test out an idea with me first so you do not wast your time

A big plus will be if elements of the illustration can be used separately on other pages

(for instance Ma'at alone, Nut, someone and offerings, a god etc...)

Thats it:)

See ya all real soon:)

what is Khunum's animal head?
He's sometimes a Scarab? No?
But he also has a goat-type head with those long wavy horns, right?
Please advise.

Khunum is so cool

Khepera is the one with scarab head:)

Khunum is this guy --several picts and quality text
http://www.thekeep.org/~kunoichi/kunoichi/...ream/khnum.html (http://www.thekeep.org/~kunoichi/kunoichi/themestream/khnum.html)

Actually it LOOKS goat like cause of the long outstretched horns but it was a particular variety of ram:) occassionally he has the curved Ram horns but this is not often (more often that is associated with Amun)

Here is relevant information incase it inspires

Originally a water god, Khnum was often pictured by the Egyptians as the source of the Nile. On temple walls, he was sometimes shown as holding a jar, with the precious water flowing out of it. He was also believed to be a guardian of the waters in the underworld. He is mentioned as a protective deity of the dead. Many heart scarabs have a similar versions of one of the spells from The Book of the Dead to protect the deceased against a negative judgement in the Halls of Ma'at:

and another of him more human form with goat like ram horns

That was very helpful, thank you.
Now that you mention it I do recall reading that he was shown as a type of ram that once existed in Egypt (with the straight-ish wavy horns) apparently that breed of ram no longer exists. Or maybe I'm day-dreaming. ;)

Anyways, that was most helpful, and although I have Nut, Yinepu (my fave), and Wesir in place, they are going to have to move around a bit to accomodate the other things that just popped into my head.

As usual, I'm going to sleep on it, and I'll post a sketch of what's in my head tomorrow evening.

G'nite.

Okay... here's my idea...
I'm intending to do this one in a more
graphical illustrated style than the last one,
but pure :cre8or: all the way.

;)

Please advise.

It is vintage :cre8or: :)

I love the flow between Nut, Khunum the water and the payrus !

One of the main things I want though is Ancestors (dead humans) making offerings and worship probably to Wesir and/or Yinepu maybe led by Yinepu (maybe not) and more lush offerings shown as they are often piled up in scenes

I have to sit with the Ma'at ABOVE Nut. I think ..hmmm though I will check with the gallery and get back to you..but I am stronglt tending to think I would prefer if Nut extended across the page with the papyrus /lotus on the sides and Ma'at somewhere in the scene or as an offering to Wesir

So that Nut Frames the festival area and extends across the whole page horizontally

Wesir on the Sunbark bugs me.

While the solar cycle and Wesir cycle get connected in rituals hehe Wesir Just doesn't ride even the night bark LOL

He's King of the Dead LOL

LOL I hate giving YOU feedback ..Ahhh Your :cre8or:

But the ancestors and their worship and offerings are really important for this one:)

And I would just LOVE it if you could put Nebet Het (Nephythys) behind the Wesir chair, holding her hand behind his neck. :flowers:

Like Rev Renee, I would like the illustration to be more of a scene under Nut, framed by her body.

Having said that, I want to say that I'm really happy you are participating in this contest.

(Rev Sedgwick and I always argue as she think Nebet Het is the greatest.
I'm more a lady of her sister(Aset) ..Rev Sedgwick says OH but Nebet Het is so reliable and comforting. hahahaha

I say ..yeah reliable-- like taxes and death..literally :lol2: <_<

Okay... I think I can come up with those changes.
(it'a much easier to rearrange and repose elements at this stage,
rather than half-way-through).

I'll see what I can come up with, and post a revision soon.

Heh...

Only thing I was not sure of is Ma'at's face (which when colored will look different anyway) and

What Wesir's hands are doing

(That doesn't sound right hmm)

(I mean He is not Min)

cre8or
04-04-2004, 08:53 PM
I was trying for a "regal" expression on Ma'at's face.
Wesir is raising his hands in blessing. (At least that's what he's supposed to be doing, that was my intention.)

While Yinepu is showing joy. (I suppose it could also be interpreted as a lamentaiton for the dead.)

rlevant
04-04-2004, 08:57 PM
Cool:)

It is joy and/o4r lamentation you sneaky person who pretends not to know so much of this stuff;-)

;)

If you're satisfied with the layout, I'd be happy to begin finishing it.
As I mentioned before, I intend to finish this one in a more "graphical" sort of pseudo-heiroglyph/modern perspective sort of way, as opposed to airbrushing it.
So... you should expect something "finished" much more quickly.

Please advise.

Also, if you're unhappy with Wesir's "blessing" pose, I can put the hook and flail back in.

Please advise.

Great Jennifer!

I look forward to it!

To increase your chances of winning let me suggest you do one really different from the one cre8or is doing.

Maybe even different deities in the scene. That way if we really love both there is a chance we would get both;-)

I've posted a new teaser, in the previous teaser spot.
I've put the Heron (Phoenix) on Wesir's throne:
Symbolize re-birth from its own ashes = association with Wesir.

:cre8or: Kimber, I love the new teaser! And, like Rev Renee, I'm all for the hook and flail--just call me old-fashioned, I guess.

You know what really gets me is the way you use the grey and the taupe on Yinepu. I'm not sure why, but it is a powerful presentation somehow.

Wesir's color is great, and the motifs on His throne add to its regalness. I think it's the use of the two colors.

I can't WAIT to see Nebet Het behind Wesir! Did Rev Renee tell her little joke about how Nebet Het is "reliable," just like death and taxes.

This is a pretty good time of the year for that, eh?
