do IT fluid company Website - $450 for 3 HTML pages
Please read the full brief found at http://www.doitfluid.com/brief.zip
This contains a Word doc listing exactly what we want on each page.

Company Name
do IT fluid Ltd
Can be abbreviated to dIf where necessary

Company Profile
An affordable provider of innovative software solutions for small local businesses.

Domain Name
www.doITfluid.com

Project Scope
New Site

Intended Audience
Small local businesses, with little or no IT infrastructure, independent of their business area. We are happy working with anyone from pet stores to tanning salons.

Look and Feel
Must convey two key qualities
- Professionalism
- Cool/Dynamic/Reactive/Flexible.

Inspiration
The brand of professionalism we would like to convey is more “Amazon” than “IBM”.
The brand of cool and dynamic we would like to convey is more “iPod minimal” (and usable) than an all singing all dancing flash and JavaScript Site.

Materials
do IT fluid have two logos --> (Michaels entries). One is called the “main” logo, and is to be used on all the English pages. The other is called the “Welsh” version, and is to be used on all the Welsh pages.
do IT fluid also has an “icon”.(DesignGeneral) This is to be used on the Splash page.
do IT fluid also has a mascot dragon.(Arthouse) This can crop up anywhere :P

Materials included in brief are found at
http://www.doitfluid.com/brief.zip
This includes:
- do IT fluid logo, Welsh and English versions (Michael’s winning entries)
- do IT fluid “icon” (DesignGeneral’s winning entry)
- do IT fluid dragon mascot (Arthouses winning entry)
- Website design brief document describing the pages we want written.

The do IT fluid Website
We are a Welsh company, and hence must offer our users a Welsh language option.
When the user goes to www.doitfluid.com, they will be presented with a language selection splash page. This will allow the user to select English or Welsh. Selecting a language will take the user to the do IT fluid Home page, from where ALL pages will be in the language they have selected.

Design Brief
The following pages, in HTML format

1_ Splash page
2_ Home page (English version)
3_ Sub Page (English version)

THIS IS IMPORTANT
Please render any text that would need to be converted into Welsh as text, and not as an image. For example, the “Contact Us” global link on the English Home page must be in text, so that we can edit it for the Welsh Home page.
The splash page needs to contain English and Welsh, so we have provided translations for this with this document.

LongboatHarry

BTW, just incase anyone was getting woried, the "full brief document" is nothing too scary! Its just a list of the three pages we want done, with the page elements we want listed for each page in turn. basically it outlines the links and stuff we want, as well as exact Welsh translations where appropriate.

The brief zip is 2MB in size --> this is because we have provided all the logos in every permutation and format imaginable. Its not because the brief doc is huge!

LongboatHarry

Lastly  , if anyone has any problems getting the zip file over HTTP, just let me know and we'll host it on an FTP server somewhere.

Thanks!

Additional images
--------------------
Hi all,
The "brief.zip" contains the dragon images as produced by Arthouse.
These images are of the rather splendid dragon perched next to or on top of the words "do IT fluid".
Arthouse has also supplied me with versions of the images with just the dragon. These can be obtained directly from the files in the zip just by cutting out the text, but if anybody wants the versions direct from the designer, just let me know.

Thanks.

Sorry, you posted as I posted so missed yours just now. We were hoping you would enter as we really like some of the designs you have come up with in other competitions, so thanks for squeezing in past the deadline

Really like it. Can see that one working really well on a business card or as a page spanning letter head. The balance of the reds, blues and yellow is very cool. And love the abstract fluidity. Very much fits the brief of us and our clients working together fluidly.

Can see it as a banner advert actually... We will be advertising ourselves on all our client WebSites (part of the contractual obligation of the client to help keep our charging down). Will think more about this, as we are putting up our Website template competition some time today.
Thanks

Hello
Just a reminder. I must point out that I do not do templates :( not yet anyway
However, if you like we'll work it out. please let me know if you need me to work it up in any way!
Thanks MOZ

Hello Moz :)
Thanks for following the progress of dIf from the logo competition to the template competition. We will be signing up for the resellers area as well soon (as soon as I can "extend" PayPal past the $750 limit!), so we look forward to seeing you there as well.

We really like the banner art you've posted -> it makes a great "link" piece of art. It conjures up jumping into a pool --> the shimmering blues and yellows make you wonder what will happen when you click it. Just the kind of things that would be great to have people thinking as they click through to do IT fluid.

If its okay for you, maybe anybody that enters this template competition could demonstrate it being used as a banner advert, and we could set up a separate banner competition if it works.

Thanks again --> if I remember right you said you were under the weather, so we hope your holiday weekend sees you feeling better.

Cheers
Matt

Hi.

Here is my entry on the splash page. I keept it clean and simple like your logos are (greate logos and icons btw.)

Please let me know if I am heading in the right direction so I can start on the home page or redo the splash. I can add some pictures if you think it is to plain, maybe some of Wales.

Looking forward to your feedback.

-------------
Thanks for entering the competition and the kind works regarding the logo and icon. The icon is by DesignGeneral, and completely knocked us for 6 when we saw it! The dragon is by Arthouse - we just couldnt resist him either. We have started using the dragon in exactly the same way you have - as the company footer. Really draws your eye to the footer, whereas in most Sites it gets lost.

Love your entry Anne. Your use of the icon as a focal point for the page is spot on. Love the continuation of the colours from the icon into the text.
All very simple and straigt forward. Very professional look and feel, and obvious "what to do". Great.

Additionally, love the fact its "bandwidth" friendly. We only use splash pages when it really says something (like, "hey look at us, we are a bilingual Site") - but even then we like to keep the bandwidth down as most people will only actually read the page once. The rest of the time they will just click where they remember the link to their language to be.

Cant think of any revisions that would be needed - EXCEPT maybe a "remember my selection" checkbox under the language links. Sorry for having missed this from the spec.

Thanks for the hard work and great work,
Matt

Hi Kelly :)
------------
Spent Easter in Wales, and just as the weather turned to short sleeved and shorts, so we had to return to London! As always, its grey here!

Thanks for the fantastic entry. Nice and simple and bandwidth friendly -> as I was saying to Anne, we hate wasting bandwidth on the splash page as people only really look at it once.

- Missed this off the spec Im afraid - can we have a "remember my selection" checkbox somewhere?

Otherwise, great.
1- like the dragon under the footer as you have placed him, as this makes him stand out more and reinforces who we are.
2_ However --> can the dragon be to the left of the footer (flush with the text) on all the other pages, to save on screen space?
3_ Like the colours and font.

Beyond the checkbox, no revisions needed.

Thanks for the great work,
Matt

They must have a fantastic view! Some fantastic sailing to be had around the Bristol channel as well. (if you have nerves of steel and something other than a narrowboat!)

Our hearts are in Wales (and hopefully soon the rest of us!), so we loved the comment B)

Hope the weather picks up in Scotland for you! The sun has just broken out here, so we are being blinded by the glare off the canal!

Are you going to choose a winner from the splash pages, or do you want us to design the home page?

As for the weather - I supposedly live in the sunniest city in Scotland (but I'm not so sure sometimes!!)

LongboatHarry
04-13-2004, 05:11 AM
There will be a single winner. So, a single competition that is for all 3 pages:
- Splash page
- Home page
- Clients page

As far as entering the competition goes, we will probably be able to select the winner (or certainly a top 3) from just the splash page and home page. In that way, only the actual winner (or top 3) will need to produce the clients page.

Kelly - thanks for the revision. Looks spot on now :) - no more revision of the splash page needed. We are looking forward to seeing the home page.

Thanks again for all your hard work,
Matt

Just got a quick query..

Which logo is "do IT fluid logo (Michael’s “main” version)"

Thanks!

LongboatHarry
04-13-2004, 05:59 AM
Hi Kelly
---------
Sorry for the confusion

do IT fluid has 2 logos, which are Michaels winners. They are basically the same (to preserve the company identity), but with regional differences to reflect the work in England and Wales.
1) The "main" logo is the one with the blue background that looks like a wave.
2) The "Welsh" logo is the one with the green/red background that is the dragons tongue.
The main logo should be used on all English pages (following the splash page)
The Welsh logo should be used on all Welsh pages (following the splash page)
The competition doesnt include any Welsh pages, so the Welsh one is only there for reference.

To further compliate matters!
3) do IT fluid have an icon (DesignGeneral) to be used on the splash page before be know the language the user wants
4) do IT fluid have a mascot (the dragon) --> feel free to use this anywhere.

Hope this is a bit clearer. Let me know if its still confusing.

Kind regards,
Matt

Fantastic splash page

Very fun, but still professional at the same time. Well done for including the "remember me" checkbox that we'd missed from the spec. Love the splash of colour (very fluid!) across the top hinting at the Welsh flag (love the way its not all out Welsh as this page has to be reasonably neutral).

Cant think of anything that would need changing. Looking forward to seeing the home page.

Those are some very kind and touching words Moz, thank you. :notworthy:

Its a real honour to work with all you guys. There is so much red tape associated with most of the work we do, that the liberation of working in this rapid fire manner with real professionals is breath taking. If everything in business was done in this way, we'd reach the red planet some time next week! Everyone here seems to care so intently about the work they are doing for the competitions that it almost seems unfair to have to chose a winner!

We really appreciate your time following our contests - I tend to write way to much, so you have awesome patience B) We have a large influx of clients at the moment (the father-in-law has been out selling for us again!) - we look forward to meeting you in some more reseller logo comps soon!

Thanks for entering with a fantastic design
Love what you've done with the icon :) Very fluid and very techy. Reminds me (in a good way) of T2. Love the shadowing on it --> combined with the metal look makes it very "proud".

Like the colours and fonts and simplicity. Has a very "corporate" feel which is good. Again, very simple design and obvious what to do --> all good things on a splash page.

The dragon has BIG attitude in steel textures! Draws your eye to the footer area (copyright and designers link) which is great, as I want the designer to be recognised and get some traffic from the Site.

Cant think of any revisions that would be needed. One slight consideration however is Im not 100% sure the Welsh can be printed in all capitals and retain the same meaning. I will find this out for you --> its an easy change.

Thanks for the great entry and hard work,
Cheers

Great Home page.
We really want a "simple and professional" design, which you have managed to pull off.
We were worried that it would be hard to come up with effective designs without us having to supply stock photos of people staring at monitors in groups. The way you have extended the dragon tongue from the logo into the main page area is inspired, and really manages to bring visual interest to the page.
I can see where you are coming from regarding matching colours back to the splash page. We thought of using the blues from the home page for the English bits of the splash page. However, we dont want the splash page becoming too cluttered visually...
Couple of things:
1) The area to the right of the logo being blank really draws my eye in. However, I dont want this being filled with a picture or design just for the sake of it, so I think you have done best to leave this blank.
- This area will be useful in later pages to host the breadcrumbs, as well as info about the logged in user
- Im toying with the idea of getting rid of the "login" global nav, and having a "username" and "password" textboxes here with a "login" button. This would use this area for something genuinely useful.
2) Is the idea that the Welsh pages (not in the brief) would be in red and green with a tail in the background? This would look very cool  However, we would not be able to produce the background images internally, so if selected as the winner would you be able to carry on in the revision stage to produce the Home and Client pages in the Welsh version? Obviously, we would make additional funds available for this.

Anyways, thanks for the great design and the hard work you have obviously put in. Its given us loads to think about. We'll ponder more and get some further feedback up later.
Thanks
Matt

I'll have a look back at the splash page to try and tie in the blues somehow :)

Wow

I wish my Saturdays were as productive as yours :notworthy:

Where to start...

Splash page
--------------
Thanks for trying the idea out. My gut feel is to not clutter this page with too many colours or design elements. I _think_ seeing the revision with the blue confirms this, so lets rollback to the original. Im not too worried about the colour scheme of the splash page being different to the colour schema of the English pages. People around me are saying its important to fix on a corporate identity (inc colour scheme) and never venture from it. However, Im all for being a rebel! If you have any sudden brain waves about reconciling the splash/English and Wales schemes togethers let me know. Personally I think this is one to think about in a couple of years time when (hopefully) we have grown to the point that it matters to iron these things out.

English pages
---------------
Love the version with login and global nav. Heres a question for you. With my coder hat on, I think the username textbox should have "username" written next to it. Same for the password box. However, am I just stuck in the past? Surely we all know to type a username and password in these boxes in this post-Amazon era? Also, your "remember me" text confirms the username and password label, so again, I think Im being too pedantic.

Welsh pages
---------------
Again, prefer the version with login and global navs in top.
Now... I _had_ been thinking of using the dragon tail in the background (the tail in the Welsh version), but now I think you are right to have used the tongue from the English version. It nicely ties the English and Welsh together. Additionally, the tongue works well in a horizontally orientated main page like you have designed. Thinking about it again, the tail wouldn't really fit the space so well, (there would be a border on the left and right of it, which would look odd).
Agree as well that the tongue looks better than the whole dragon. Its a fine balance I think between adopting a Welsh look and dressing up in full Welsh custume and wearing a leek on your lapel ;)

Great work Kelly.

LongboatHarry
04-17-2004, 02:10 AM
Kelly
------
Now, heres the bit Im going to really struggle to describe

- How will the "main" page area cope with text running off the bottom? Say for example a page has LOADS of text on it, making it run for miles vertically. Would the background image repeat? I think my concern is that the background image spans the left nav as well as the main page area.

Heres an idea. Let me know if its workable..... (and if it makes sense!)
1) Turn the left nav into a self-contained box. Make it the same colour (light blue) and use the tip of the tongue (left 50% of image) as the background
2) Make the main page a self contained area. Not sure about the details, but e.g. just a white area
3) Make the news a self-contained box. Use the same colour (dark blue) and use the righter most 50% of the tongue as the background.

In this way, the nav, main page and news are all separate. Will this make longer pages easier to cope with? It _might_ additionally help keep bandwidth down on long pages as the background image is only on the nav and news which are fixed size.

Let me know your thoughts. Im no graphic designer, so I really wont take any offense if you say "rubbish idea" :)

Very well balanced page --> nice flow around the icon.
Great solution to the problem of getting the English colours in by picking up some colouring from the "O" of the icon.
Nice and bandwidth friendly and nice and easy to use. Spot on.
Great font for "Welcome" (English and Welsh) --> works well with the icon.

One thing --> I think "privacy policy" (both English and Welsh) needs to be higher contrast. They might be missed on a poor monitor or by someone short of sight.

Thanks

Heres an idea. Let me know if its workable..... (and if it makes sense!)

Its worth a shot :) I completely understand about the background thing - what I would probably do is make the background image much bigger than it needs to be and have plain colour underneath where the dragon is so that it doesnt repeat (theres ways and means around everything :D

I'll be back shortly with that design idea :)

I used the main logo to avoid confusion regarding your logo. On the homepage and rest of site I think is ok to use both logos since the main logo will be bigger and in top of page.

Thanks for giving my idea a shot. What you said about just making

the image bigger and continuing the plain colour beneath the dragon

is a really neat way around it.

What we really like about your designs is the "brochure-like" quality

they have. They all look like they could be used in a company

brochure without much modification (beyond refactoring the

navigation into a "contents")

Love the brochure-like design. Splitting the nav and news into 2

separate boxes looks great. Inspired move by yourself to only use

the very left most bit of the tongue in the nav and the very right most

bit in the news. This makes it seem as though the main page has the

"middle" bit as a background, when infact, its just blank. Nice optical

effect.
Like the boxes going to the bottom of the page, forming a "fixed size"

page design. Again, very "brochure". It will easily scale to long pages

just by extending the blues downwards as well.
The footer looks great. Nicely holds the page together.
Not 100% sure about the header area, as it seems a bit "separate"

to the rest of the design. Love the global nav and the log in area, just

needs "something" to tie it to the rest of the page. Not sure what at

the moment, but will keep on thinking about this.

Same comments from English apply. Overall, fantastic.

English version Apr 17 2004, 05:36 AM
-----------------------------------------------------
Great piece of lateral design thinking! Love the way you have

managed to keep the brochure fixed page design by adding the side

borders. This has nicely freed up the nav and news boxes from

having to be a fixed height. And again, vertically scalable.
Much prefer the version with the background image.
This design has the added benefit that it will work without the nav

and news boxes --> the side borders will still keep the page

dimensioned. This will be very useful for wide pages.
Still got the same slight niggle with the header looking

separate...However,putting the global nav in the header border really

helps.

Thanks for coming up with the home page design. Really strong

entry --> very simple and professional. Very customisable from our

perspective. Very clean layout that is very easy on the eye and

easy to navigate. Both entries work very well with your fantastic

splash page entry.

Apr 17 2004, 05:10 AM
-------------------------------
Very simple and inspired placing of the logo. Using the "do IT fluid"

wording to form the header across the page helps "seat" the logo

nicely and gets the flow spot on. Similarly, the footer is very strong

and holds the page up nicely.
Love the global nav buttons, very iPod. Like the way you have used

images and wording together to make sure its very clear.
Left nav box works really well. Defines the page nicely and is easy

to use. Similary, the news box is very simple but effective, and

nicely frames the right side.
Nice idea giving a shadow to the left nav mimicing the shadow in the

logo.

I need to think more about how to best use the header area. Could

you try including a "username" textbox and "password" textbox +

login button. This would be very useful to clients, and be relevant.
Not sure if I prefer the global navs at the top (first entry) or on the

header line (second entry). Need to see login revision first to make

decision.

Wow! Thanks for really pushing the boat out and giving so many

ideas to play with.
MUCH prefer the 1st concept. Works really well with the revised

"high contrast" privacy links. Thanks for showing the revisions with

the welcome notices stacked on the left though, as its by seeing

those that the first was reinforced. I think the reason is that the page

looks more "balanced" with the English being on the left and the

Welsh on the right, as opposed to the second concept where its not

so defined. Makes it much more obvious how to use the page.

Apr 17 2004, 05:26 AM

Your imagination is awesome! Really like the dragon offering to

remember the selection for you. Very human touch that I really

appreciate. Love the way that has freed you to put the "main" logo in

the place of where the dragon was originally. Interesting idea where

that leads --> with the main logo being on all pages and the

"regional" logo then being in larger somewhere else. Inspired brand

reinforcement. Great stuff.

Thanks for carrying on and getting the Home page template in.

Really appreciate your hard work and time.

Wow. B) Visually stunning yet professional, simple, and easy to use.
Very brave entries that really appeal to the "3d modelling" side the

company with your choice of banner imagery.

Great page layout - love what you have done to the global nav in

making it span downwards flush with the banner. Like the placement

of the news being under the left nav freeing up the main page to be

wider.
Love the dragon sitting on the footer with attitude. Nice images of

strength and the like. Like the simplicity of the left nav and the news.

This will really help with any customisation from our side.

Welsh version
--------------------
Amazing visual impact. Just got to love the icon placement. Inspired.

Very "Hitchcock" with the director being in shot in the background.

Love the fluid running man. Again, really works with the 3d modelling

angle, and works a methaphor for the contracting side as well.

English version
---------------------
Again, amazing visual impact. Love the way there is no icon in the

background, as this reinforces do IT fluid (represented by the icon)

being a Welsh company (by being in the Welsh banner only).

Inspired graphic design. Again, the banner image works well with the

modelling angle, and will work with the contracting.

Simple, easy to use, visually very appealing. Love the way you have

made the footer chunky, and the use of a chunky header to form an

eye catching "wide screen" page area. Love the wave in the header.

Nice human touch that brings visual interest as well.
Great layout with the icon and bilingual welcome Site info. Really

focuses the eye on the "Welcome" text, which is a great piece of

optical design that really make the page seem more human. :)

Love the dotted line breaking the English from the

Welsh text.
Nice idea moving the privacy policy into the footer. This really

unclutters the main page and makes getting into the site very easy.

Really like the page being a determined sized in the centre of the browser window, which doesnt resize horizonally on huge monitors. Nothing worse than having to read across the entire screen.

Really shows off the visual impact difference between clicking Welsh and Englsh. Love the way the borders are in blue for 1 and green for the other --< very good impact when you click splash--> Englsh, and then splash-->Welsh.

Looks great. Can really see how vertical scrolling would work. Still a slight problem with the headers looking separate --> Annes entry is a fantastic example of using getting the logo and header to sit right. Regarding the login position....
My thoughts were to have them directly under the global bav. This would involve pushing the nav to the top and _maybe_ not having textbox labels.
If a user is already logged in, the login would be replaced with

- "you are logged in as Mr John Smith"
- "Click here if you are not Mr John Smith"

Could you also change the color of the font used for the global navs and "to top" links to a darker (higher contrast) colour?

Lastly, how easy would it be to make the global nav buttons "stronger"? Again, making them darker and easier to see if you are partially sighted?

Thanks for the hard work. Its looking great

Thats definitely our favourite revision. Looks great in a browser --> very fun and professional entry. Still love the dragon placement.

Home page

Its really obvious you've put your heart into this
Really like your lateral thinking with regards to the global navigation. Great piece of design moving the language change link out of the main global nav group and into the bottom right. Great for brand reinforcement, and really like the way it gets both of Michaels logos seen. Same goes for the login -- > great idea to move this out of the main group and into a "client area" box.
Love the fluid glistening banner. Looks like a canal B) And the global navs looked "moored to the canal" ;)
Left nav is very striking. Love the fun use of the dragon again.
Great page layout --> very fluid and easy on the eye. Its hard getting the header area balanced --> yours is spot on.

Revisions
------------
A few immediate ideas. Will get some more up later.

1) Can I see the main page in a browser as well?
2) Can you make the fluid banner a bit stronger. Its a great concept --> just needs reinforcing.
3) Can you make the dotted line under the header a bit stronger?
4) I was about to ask for a different symbol on the left nav.... I see its just been done. New symbols are inspired  Great tie-in to the main icon.
5) Anyway of making the 3 global nav labels a bit "tidier"? Not sure quite how... maybe just making the banner stronger will solve this anyway.

Fantastic
Hats off to you for revision 2 of the English Home page. The slight design changes have made a dramatic difference.
The left nav alterations have really tied the page together. Love the detail in the grey background (the bubbly effect).
Love what you have done with the global nav. I thought it was positioned well before --> but this is better :) Makes them more prominent, and love the idea of the logo now being a "remote control".
Great placement of the username in the border. Again, really prominent. I imagine that will help make any client signed in feel more important!
Dont like the new dragon footer though --> looks vaguely like hes sinking ;) Much prefered the original dragon from the first footer.
One question --< the skewed "V" under the logo is not made of straight lines... is this representing something ?

Fantastic work Martin. Again, thanks for the hard work

Thanks for investing so much brain energy in the header.

I've been wracking the grey cells as well. I think the nub of the problem may be that you are using the dif logo with the text stacked up vertically. When Michael won the logo comp, he generously supplied the wording in loads of different positions so I wasnt tied to anyone dimension. Having seen the logo being used, I think maybe the vertical layout would be better for business cards and letter heads. The horizontal alignment may make it easier to place the logo in a header. This is just a vague idea --> it may be way off the mark.

Thanks again,
Matt

My favorite is the top one. Nice and bold, and really holds the new and bolder global navs in place. Love the sparkly fluid image. Very energetic, fluid, magical feeling. One idea.... it looks _almost_ the same as the tongue in the background of the logo. Is it worth making it _actually_ the same shape? Still keep the wonderful texture though. Let me know if you've tried this already and found it didnt work though.

Hi Matt, The reason for the skewed v is that I wanted to make the white space where the logo is a bit more interesting instead of a square white box the lines are now straight though :) I also added the back to top arrow in the space at the bottom along with the original Dragon placement.

I think the only thing I have missed off is a link to the welsh site.

Thanks for the Welsh version of the Homepage. Looks fanstastic
Very complimentary to the English version, but different enough to get the "wow factor". :)

One slight issue (maybe) regarding the left nav....

The English left nav looks awesome. The gradient from the light blue to the dark blue is very striking and eye pleasing. This is probably because its fading between two shades of the same colour.
The Welsh left nav looks a bit "muddy". Both versions looks great until around the "partners" link, then I think the backgrond gets a bit too dark to get good contrast on the link. The fade from the red to green (or green to red) doesnt look quite right... Not sure why, just looks a bit "muddy".
Maybe the problem is in the Welsh version we are fading between two different colours (not different shades of the same colour).
Maybe the solution is to use only red or only green as the background colour, and fade from light to dark, like in the English version.

Apart from the left nav, looks fantastic  Again, thanks for the hard work and imagination,

Cheer!

Hi DesignGeneral --> wow, that was probably the fastest revision turnaround in history ;)

Love the new versions. Much cleaner and much easier on the eye. Can you just make the gradient less dark? I like the shades of green (or red) we get to at the tip of the dragon. Can you make this the darkest it gets? This will also lighten the area that has links written on it, and help the contrast.

Now you are going to ask me which one is my favourite ;)

... liked the original idea you had in the left nav with both the red and the green being there. But it was too muddy... The left nav looks great now in a single colour, but only one colour is represented... How about using the green version and the red version interchangably on different pages ? 1) Get rid of the banner
2) Move the login to the left
3) In the top right hand corner, display the global nav as follows:
- stack up three of the dragon tongues from the English logo in a single column
- Put a each of the global nav items in a tongue
4) The "stack of tongues" would then be the global nav for all pages.

The login box would only be there until the user logged in, It would then be replaced with a "welcome Mr Blogs" type message.

Let me know if this needs anymore explanation.

Thanks

1q Matt.

You said to move the login to left this mean to move it to the right of the logo or in the place where is the logo and put the logo at the middle of page.

or u want to move the login below the logo on the left column ;)

Let me know.

Thanks

Wow --> sorry, "left" can mean many different things ;)

I was thinking directly left of the "stack of tongues" global nav. If that looks silly, put it anywhere you think looks best. :)

Hi Matt,

I'm back ;)

I have a question though. Your testimonials will be visible for guest visitors?

*Image Removed

LongboatHarry
04-24-2004, 01:58 AM
DesignGeneral :)
-----------------
Thats a fantastic first attempt at the clients page

Couple of mods
1) Can you change "logged in as" to "Welcome Mr John Smith" ?
2) Under "Welcome Mr John Smith", have a link "Click here if you are not Mr John Smith"
3) Need a "log out" button somewhere. Probably make this the top tongue in the global nav, and make the tongue slightly darker to bring attention to it. Feel free to use your imagination though.
4) Move breadcrumbs into banner area and increase contrast
5) Move contextual links into top of the "main page" area, and make them look more "link like"
6) Change "in conjuction with" to "in partnership with DesignGeneral" (or how you want your company represented). Make this a link to your Site if you like.

Dont worry about the logged in client seeing the testimonials. It will work a bit like Amazon. Once you are logged in, the Site personalises a bit to you, and allows you to enter your account area.

Fantastic work DesignGeneral  Thanks for the hard work and the ultra-fast revisions.
Thanks,
Matt

LongboatHarry
04-24-2004, 02:03 AM
Love your positioning of the Zoar logo by the way  That will really make the logged in client feel special. It really heads up the page nicely

Regarding guests using the testimonials page... Basically, they would see the clients page, but the "Zoar" banner would be replaced with your login banner.

Thanks  Its looking fantastic

Brilliant

One revision - Put the contextual links just under the dashed line at the bottom of the banner (as opposed to the top of the page).

Looking good

LongboatHarry
04-24-2004, 11:03 AM
One question...
The contextual link area must be able to cope with more links.
For example, the left nav will scale downwards fine.
However, where the contextual links are going to be (under the dashed line of the banner) is quite narrow. One way around this would be to carry the links over onto a second row... Would this look okay? Could you demonstrate this by sticking a few more contextual links up (just use random words).

Dont like the position of the log out button where it is.... Can we try it next to the "Welcome Mr John Smith" line. Maybe make this more of a "button" as well.

Thanks for the hard work
Matt

LongboatHarry
04-24-2004, 11:09 AM
This is really hard to explain, so shout if Im not making any sense  B)

1 If you arent logged on:
- log in box in the banner

2 If you are logged on and viewing a non-secure page
- Welcome Mr John Smith
- Click here if you are not Mr John Smith

3 If you are logged on and viewing a secure page
- You are logged in as Mr John Smith
- Log out button

We have covered (1) with the Home page
If you remove the log out button from the English Clients page, we have covered (2)
Could you cover (3) by designing the Welsh Clients page with
- "You are logged in as Mr John Smith"
- Log out button somewhere

Sorry for being so confusing. Let me know if this needs clearing up at all.
Thanks

LongboatHarry
04-24-2004, 11:14 AM
To summarise
-----------------
1. Splash page
Pefect

2. English Home page
Perfect  This is an example of a page where the user is not logged in (log in box in banner)

3. Welsh Home page
Perfect  This is another example of a page where the user is not logged in (log in box in banner)

4. English clients page
Lets pretend that the user has logged in, and that this is not a secure page
Hence, display "Welcome...." and "click here if you are not...."
Get rid of log out button
Move contextual links under dashed line of banner area

5. Welsh clients page
Lets pretend that the user has logged in, and that this is a secure page.
Hence, display "You are logged in as ..." and show a log out button
Again, move contextual links

Finally, add a few more contextual links (random text) to demonstrate how it copes with more links.

Thanks  Sorry for mucking you around with this last minute change of direction  Let me know if you need any more info.

-----------------
Love it
Very fluid textbox backgrounds --> very eye catching. Love the effect on the button. Makes it really obvious it can be "clicked".
Love the left nav links. The gradient background is cool --> and I like the way you've used a simple rollover effect on the links so to keep it simple and inkeeping with the rest of the page.

I'd say that was a fantastic use of your 1000th post ;) :D

One revision
---------------
Could the global nav links be underlined when you hover over them?
