Hello everyone,

We invite your help to rename our project through an initial contest with a prize of $50. We intend to do a second contest to design a logo for the name.

Background. our current name for the project is the Cambridge Rowing Lake (CRL) which originated in 1992 when several rowers of international fame who graduated from Cambridge University in the UK decided that the region needed a lake to accommodate the overflow of rowers who use the river Cam. Over five thousand rowers in Cambridge from the university and town clubs pusue the sport annually on the Cam River that cannot handle the traffic. Please look at the current website for details of the rowing project at http://www.CambridgeRowingLake.org.uk

Project Overview and Challenge. However, as the 220 care project unfolded, the project now envisions not only a rowing lake but a site for triathlons, cycling, canoeing, and riding in a country park setting. It is clear that we had an opportunity to have several other sports and activities in the park. The CRL title was viewed as elitist. Today, our project will provide the following:

• An International standard competition and training venue for rowing, canoeing, triathlon, and cycling, including a 2-mile long rowing lake connected to the river Cam.
• Recreational areas for canoeing, angling, and equestrianism.
• A network of walking trails and cycle paths connecting to the Milton Country Park.
• A wildlife conservation area and wildflower meadows adjoining the Wicken Future Fen conservation area.
• A Sports Centre with changing facilities, gym, and boat storage areas.
• A 100-pitch caravan and camping area for visitors and athletes.
• An extended campus laboratory with the College of West Anglia for Land Management students and a research centre for its Equestrian Centre of Excellence.
• A Sports Development Centre of Excellence that will provide professionally led introduction to sports and wellness for young people. The Centre will also provide improved access to non-traditional audiences including the disabled and women.
• Programmes will offer residential training experiences in each sport.
• All programmes promote access and affordability for the community in partnership with area schools, universities, businesses, community organisations, and Local Authorities

Fundraising. We are preparing to launch a capital campaign for the remaining £13 million ($26 million US) to complete the lake and feel that a more comprehensive identity is needed.

General Requirement This identity not only should convey the scope of the project and be clearly viewed as a destination point. We will be hosting international sporting competitions at the venue, training camps for youth, education programs for the region, and a wildlife sanctuary and park for the community.

Using the name of “Cambridge” in the name. Marketing consultants have indicated to us that it would be great to use the name of Cambridge in our project title as the word not only conveys quality but also location. Consequently we were interested in the name Cambridge Lakes –but discovered that it is already trademarked, etc. We would prefer a name that uses Cambridge in the title to convey quality and location. At the same time, we will accept a name that is easily memorable and denotes excellence. It should be easy to pair our new name with events such as:

International Regatta at XXXX
Olympic Rowing will be held at XXXX
The UK National Triathlon Meet at XXX
The XXXX Equestrian Centre of Excellence
The XXX Cycling Championship

Criteria.
Name should be able to stand alone and yet lend itself to a logo that will become the signing for not just publicity but also for the landmark of the 220-acre park.

Name must also be available for use as a domain name for XXX.org.uk

Deadline: 7 days from posting.

We will seriously consider all entries. And, we will be glad to answer any questions or concerns. Many thanks for your help and participation! :)

great start on the names. It strikes me that the sport activities at our park do not require anything other than human energy, and that our commitment to manage the park for public enjoyment as well as a sports and training venue has a "natural" connection. Hope this helps.

P.S. I forgot to tell you to please call me Michael. I write to you from Cambridge, England

Additional monikers:

"The Lakes at National Centre"

You get the gist.

With all you do, it seems like you needed a "bigger" name.

I also tried to minimize the elitist and make it more "every man".

Hello all,

We are very pleased by the responses that we are getting. As one of our trustees mentioned to me this morning, you can almost see the name engraved on grantie as one drives onto the property. All your efforts are causing us to think hard here, too. Imagine a room full of people repeating your list of names out loud.

The use of a three word name may indeed work. Perhaps we can find an adejctive that describes a common goal for all the activities and relates it to a location description.

The last word will most likely be the nickname for the location.

A few questions/ comments on some of the ideas:

Muvment's Your names are coming the closest to what we have in mind (see above). Keep working, please!

Beatz What came to mind with the use of the word "challenge"? I am not sure that we can name a location with that word.. Help me understand as I think it sounds very strong

_firstwave_ Where did you come upon the term "Cross"? And why do you think it would fit this project? It certainly is dignified.

RadicalSEEDIs the term "pointe" in use in Canada in connection with a lake? I am not sure that how it is commonly used in the UK. Can anyone help me on its use in the UK?

To all of you, our thanks, please continue with your creative thoughts!.

Michael

Good afternoon

For a different viewpoint, we welcome your efforts using
any descriptions except the word Cambridge for our proposed project title.
The name should not have more than three words.

Michael ;)

We are pleased to announce that the Winning Name for our contest for the Park is:

Cambridge Pointe

submitted by RadicalSEED. A fantastic job.

It was a very difficult choice for us to make as we want to be able to reach both the US and UK markets.

Congratulations to all of you who submitted names and gave time to our quest.

We will be back to you all regarding a logo contest as soon as we have pulled together the elements that should be incorporated into the design.

The team at DesignOutpost is great!!! :D
