Hi,

The challenge of this contest is to QUICKLY create a sensitive, friendly and appealing site while making it appropriate for the serious nature of the subject. We need initial entries by this Wednesday!

Abstract: This contest is for 2 HTML template pages – A main page and a 2nd level page. Deliverables include the 2 HTML templates and all required graphics. The prize is $350.

Scope of Deliverables:
- Two HTML templates, as per Design Guidelines, below.
- Associated CSS style sheets for headers/signpost text, for textual navigation elements, for body text, footer, etc.
- Buttons and/or Tabs as required by design (also see general design guidelines).

Contest Rules: Designers should submit designs for the first page by April 28th. We hope to choose a winner by the end of this week.

Website Name: “Lean on Me”, Cancer Through a Carer’s Eyes

URL: www.lean-on-me.net (http://www.lean-on-me.net)

Description of Website: Lorraine Kember’s husband Brian was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has written a moving and inspirational true story of a courageous man’s battle with mesothelioma cancer and his wife’s emotional journey as she supports him throughout his ordeal. Interspersed with diary excerpts and poems she penned along the way, this very personal account depicts the depth of their love for each other, the sense of helplessness she experienced on his diagnosis and her growing strength as she comes to realize that there is much she can do to improve the quality of his life.

This website tells a little about this story and offers readers to buy the book Lean on Me that tells the story.

Type of impression the site makes: The site should be warm and sensitive, it should look friendly and not businesslike. It should have curves in it and not all rectangles and boxes

Audience: Family and friends of people dealing with terminal cancer of a loved one.

Colors: I will leave this up to the designers.

Design Guidelines:

- Please optimize for 800X600 screens
- Most site viewers will be on dialup – so graphics cannot be too heavy.
- You can use JavaScript, but not Java or Flash.
- Should not include browser-specific code

First page should contain the follwo8ing elements:

1) A menu with the following items:
- A Must Read / Home
- Authors Note: Why I wrote “Lean on Me”
- The Doctors Diagnosis (Time Left Together)
- Pain Management
- Chemotherapy
- Palliative Care (Symptom Control)
- Courage & Grief
- Our Journeys End

2) A center section with
- A picture of the book (graphics are all located at: http://www.younevercall.com/mesothelioma/l.../lean_on_me.zip (http://www.younevercall.com/mesothelioma/lean_on_me.zip) )
- A picture of the author, Lorraine, get this from the back cover graphic

To Purchase a Copy Complete the Form Below

Second Template Page should have:

- Navigation to all pages
- A central section incorporating 2-4 paragraphs of text
- An image from the images included in http://www.younevercall.com/mesothelioma/l.../lean_on_me.zip (http://www.younevercall.com/mesothelioma/lean_on_me.zip)
- A Link to the ordering section of the first page

Sites I like:
I like sites that are clean and easy to navigate. This site in particular should be very easy to navigate and fast loading.

Speed is important here - we need to get this site up and running ASAP.

thanks,
sam.

Hi,

Two more things.

1) Please let me know if you are planning on entering this contest - I don't want the short notice to scare people off - but I do want to do this site quickly if possible.

2) Please use the images at http://younevercall.com/mesothelioma/lean_on_me.zip in your designs - the author of the book has provided these images for that purpose.

regards,
sam.

Design General - good job, thanks.
Demex - also very nice.

As always the entires were really really good!
also I noticed that each designer identifies elements in previous entries that they like and these influence the entry.

We have decided to go with the first designer, Ann!

Congrats! and thanks to all of you!

Great Job Anne

Hi Anne,

Lets go with your first entry.

I look forward to seeing your next page.
I also have a change to the first page which we can discuss when this gets moved to the revisions forum.

thanks!
sam.

Hi Anne,

The change I need is that there needs to be a different screen for Non-US people ordering the book as opposed to US. So we either need a button that pops up a differnet window or (maybe easiest) simply a button that replaces the home page exactly the same page but with slighly different ordering information.

2. Name, address, city, state, zip, tel and email need to be required fields. Don’t put a star required

US PAGE
(Outside the US Click Here) toggle

Name:
Address
City:
State: (don’t have a drop down box)
Zip:
Country: Default is USA:
Tel:
E-mail:

Are you a mesothelioma victim or family member

o Yes * o No **

Comment / Questions
(Box)

Submit (no RESET button)

* Price For Mesothelioma Victims/Families $ 7.50
Subsidized by website sponsor / US only

** Regular Price including shipping $27.50

An invoice will be included with the book.

Separate page for orders from Outside the US, with button to return them to ordering on the main page within the US.

Here is an update for the first page.

I've added "Outside the US Click Here" in two different places on the page just so you can see what fits best. (or maybe you want it somewhere else).

I have a question.
As for the Non US page, is this the second page you mentioned in you first post or are you asking for 3 pages?

Anne

Hi,

I will create the non-US page.
The second page I want you to create is a second level page for the internal text.

It should have a smaller graphical element and shoudl use some of the other images that I included in teh images for teh site (the one with teh fishing for example).

For teh first page I think you used a different image of teh coupole in the header than teh original one - this one is a little brighter than I had wanted.

regards,
sam.

thanks!
sam.

Anne

Fixed the header. What about the rest, does it look ok and where do you want the button/link to the non us page? As I mentioned before I've placed it in two different places, does any of them work or do you want me to put it somwhere else?

Anne

How is this for the second page

samm27
05-04-2004, 09:53 AM
Hi Anne,

The first page looks good. I would keep the "OUTSIDE THE US" links in both places.

On the second page I would want the header to be different - the same idea - 30% smaller and include a different image. Everything else is good!

Thanks!
sam.
