Hey guys, (Admin code added by Zoe - P5092252)
This is my first contest post, but I think many more will follow. This contest is for an adaptable logo for Alaska Extreme Distribution, a small extreme sports distribution company in Alaska. The logo will be used in web and print forms. Our web address is alaskaextremedist.com, I know its long, and we actually have alaskaxtreme.com too, but that is for another project and another contest :P sometime later. In addition, I also run The Alaska Boarder www.alaskaboarder.com and Snowboarderguide Review Magazine, www.sbgmag.com, both of which need work, but again, those will be later competitions.
As to what we need: Alaska Extreme Distribution is a small, niche market extreme sports distribution company. We will be distribution smaller bits, many accessories, stuff like that. For example, our first two products are GOFAST, a new energy drink, and SKINS, a new ski/snowboard waxing system. The logo needs to convey activity/energy, youth, extreme, stuff like that. It can't focus on any particular extreme sport, as we will eventually be dealing with many different sports: snowboarding, skateboarding, biking, snowmachines, bmx, motorcross, etc. I'm super open to ideas, and while I've been really hands on with this kind of stuff in the past, I don't really have too much of a vision for this one.
I'd like to get this finished in a month, say 5/5, but this is definitely not set in stone.
Thanks, looking forward to your posts.
Chris

Something to start off with.

Cool start j-design. Very cool look to it, and definitely has some of the edge I'm looking for.
Mountains are good images to work with, another theme someone might want to play with is the AK flag, which is basically a dark blue background with the big-dipper and north star on it in yellow.
Thanks
Chris

I like your mountain Chelle, but don't really like the circle or the text too much.
Keep throwing out ideas.
I'm going to be gone this weekend, headed up to the mountains for a snowmobile race, but I'll check back on Monday.
Chris
Chris,
I've attempted one including the stars of the Alaskan Flag and one without.
If your interested would you like to see the same text with a mountain behind it ?

WOW! There has been some incredibly creative work going while I was up in the mountains!!
Dan: Cool text, try it out with a mountain behind it. Also, the stars look pretty good, but they need a little adjustment, here is how they should be arranged: http://www.netstate.com/states/symb/flags/images/ak_fi.gif
Chelle: Very cool and simple. Great design.
Subtract: I am literally picking my jaw up off the floor. Absoutely beautiful. Both designs say very much of what I am looking for.
Ondarox: I like the design, but am not really all about the swooshes. You could try lightening them a bit, they just seem too prominent. The rest of it is great though.
Hybrid Nine: Great, its simple and professional looking, and would be easy to adapt for different uses.
Thanks all, I really like what is being turned out. This is already turning into a tough decision. I'm really not in any kind of rush, so feel free to play around with more ideas. I'll show these to some of my team riders and get back to you with their comments.
Later
Chris

Sorry I've been Awol, had a couple of essays due and it pretty much hosed me.
Subtract- I love the latest design.
Chelle- much better than the first, but how about a different color.
cre8or- this is a great design, cool text. Try it without the bear.
elKootcho- feels a little too corporate, like Sams Club or something. Thanks though
Thanks
Chris

Sorry for the delay...
Here's the logo (top) with the text in the same position, but without the bear.
On the bottom, I moved the text over to fill the space of the missing bear.
This logo is all vector, scaleabiity is no problem, and the colours can be adjusted easily.
(I chose icy blues thinking of snow, etc.)
Any other changes you may need can be done -- no problems.
Cheers!
