Company name: Genzo Products

Company profile: Analytical science/Technology Instrument company

Domain name: TBA

What is the scope of this project?: Redesign

Who is the intended audience?: Hospitals, Laboratories, Universities

Mood or tone?: Professional, dynamic. Something that acknowledges the technology and reliability of the products we offer. We are looking for a more 21st century look.

Color psychology?: Our color code is darkish blue, with snippets of red, white, black. I'd like blue to be featured.

Links to include: Products, Information, Service/Support, Training, News, Shop Online

Current Graphics/Template: I have linked to 2 zipped files. The first are images of the current design(s). The second are pics I'd like in the image montage. It is not necessary that all of the product images are there, but I'd like atleast half to be included, as well as some of the overall scientific images. If you have a good image of the periodic table, feel free to include that. What I was unable to find are pics of scientists/laboratory personnel, which would be nice to include. However, this doesn't mean people with microscopes.

Dynamic: We will create the actual pages, CSS, etc. We are simply looking for the designs.

In the same industry are: www.agilent.com, www.waters.com, www.varianinc.com, www.ionicsinstruments.com, www.thermo.com (Note - I like elements of the URLs I've listed above, but we're not as text-heavy as Agilent, for example)

Design Notes:

I am looking for TWO pages for this design. Page 1 will be a 'front' page, on which I'd like a standout image montage, room for our welcome message, and space provided for things like news updates, links for items of interest, etc.

You'll see the middle green row listed with 'Products', 'Information' etc. on it. Those are links to Drop-down boxes. A drop-down navigation system needs to remain, but it doesn't exactly have to be as is. Feel free to get creative with it, change colors, look, etc.

+++++

Page design 2 will be for our product pages. These are the meat of the website, so to speak, and are where most visitors go to learn about our product offerings.

As you can see from the link, each product page currently includes a product pic, product description, with links to other relevant items. All of these elements will stay and be linked.

I am looking to 'spruce up' the product page design, as well as using colors/elements from your 'front' page design. Nothing is set in stone.

Creative,
Thanks for the quick reply.

I'd like to see more blue - on the top, and instead of the 3 connected images, maybe a montage using them, with shadings, etc.

Just a thought - MK

No need to keep the old structure. The only thing I need to maintain is the dropdown box.
Nice work; I like the usage of the color scheme.

Designers,

Thanks for all of your fine work.

We've narrowed the designs we received down to 4, and our comments/recommendations for the 'next round' follow:

We all agreed that the front page would all need space for a product search, as well as sections for featured product, and what's new ? Try to incorporate these if you can.

DesignGeneral -
We liked the clean aspect of your design.
- Make your top links section stand out a bit more.
- Remove one of the featured product areas.
- Try your 'Latest News ' section in a different color. It needs to stick out more.
- Your montage is overly sectioned. See if you can make it more connected.

Phil -
We liked the red bar across the middle, and your design for the 'recent press'.
- Move the left top 'Genzo' logo up a bit more.
- Move the recent press section down a little.
(We're not sure if we would prefer those be flush with the middle section. Maybe show us a design with these elements flush, and one with them extending a little bit in)
- We liked your montage but think it's a bit too hectic.

Luc -
We liked the blue 'wave' design in the background of the top. It makes people focus on the rest of the page, which is good.
- Make your red links wider, and not shaded.
- Remove the "Slogan Goes Here" and replace with "Access to Your Success"
- Not sure how we feel about the 'halo' on the logo. Can we see a version with and without ?

Deplex -
We thought both of your design ideas were good. We can't decide if we like the 3 columned one better than the other. Maybe we could see changes on both. We also liked your use of the areas below the montage.
- See if you can tone down the montage a bit. On the 3-columned idea, the montage is too tall.
- Remove the 3 'instrument category' pics that you have along the middle.
- On the 3-column look, remove the black above the links.

Any questions, please ask.

michaelk

Luc, Congrats.

Here's what we'd like to see.

Please replace the "Genzo" logo in the top left with the attached (minus your white circle), or maybe see if you can reverse the black letters to white. Ideally, I'd like the logo and icon on your swirling blue b/g, maybe 'raised'.

Also, change the slogan "Access to Your Success" to "Solutions for Science since 1875" and in a friendlier font..

That's it for now - more to follow.

Sorry for the delay.

michaelk
06-15-2004, 05:23 AM
Let's try this -
Make the logo bigger, and on the 'solutions for science' part, italicize that, and only capitalize the first letter of each word.
Also, where you have the red/black targets, replace with the red/white cross icon.

Luc
06-15-2004, 07:21 AM
Here.

michaelk
06-15-2004, 07:26 AM
Nicely Done.

Can you see what you could do with applying that basic look to a product page, ie:

link (http://www.ssi.shimadzu.com/products/lcms/newindex.cfm?product=lcmssolution)

Preferably, with a creative way to include the links on the right top (brochure, specs, etc)

Luc
06-17-2004, 07:22 AM
How's this?

michaelk
06-17-2004, 11:11 AM
Luc,
There are a few things I'd like you to try:

On the main page, the red icon image looks a bit pixilated. See if you can make it sharper. Also, we'll need the solid white background behind the circle there.

The area where the red links are - Instead of centering that, I'd like to move it so that it's more narrow and right justified. I'm going to be creating the actual links, but let's say they would begin from where the word the letter 'R' is, in the word "Information" is now, extending on over to the right corner. To cover this, can you extend the darker blue down from the top portion. I think that might look nice.

On the product page, I'd like the compliance info, brochure etc links to be more streamlined, and vertical.
Just for reference, here's an example of how a competitor does it:
Agilent (http://www.chem.agilent.com/Scripts/PDS.asp?lPage=280)

Also, if possible, I'd like to include the links which are on the left of the demo product page I sent you. So, that people can see related products.

Luc
06-19-2004, 02:36 AM
Sorry for the delay. Here are the revisions.

Luc
06-19-2004, 02:41 AM
product page.

michaelk
06-21-2004, 05:18 AM
Actually, what I wanted is for you to try to extend the darker blue part on the left side, so that the red links kind of cut into it.

michaelk
06-22-2004, 10:38 AM
Luc,
2 more things I need:

A background from your top banner, but without the 'ghosted' elements - just the blue with the slight criss-cross pattern underneath

Also, the background from the "Product Name" section - light blue faded with similar cross pattern underneath it.

Luc
06-23-2004, 04:56 AM
Actually, what I wanted is for you to try to extend the darker blue part on the left side, so that the red links kind of cut into it.

Sorry I just don't get it.

Criss-cross pattern, do u mean grid?

michaelk
06-24-2004, 06:33 AM
Yes, grid.

Luc
06-24-2004, 06:42 AM
I didn't understand this

"Actually, what I wanted is for you to try to extend the darker blue part on the left side, so that the red links kind of cut into it. "

Can you explain or better yet post an image on what you mean. Sorry about that.

michaelk
06-24-2004, 10:23 AM
Actually, that last part I think I've got covered.

I'll just need the blue gridded background, and the background under the instrument - "Product Name" section.

Luc
06-24-2004, 11:59 PM
Here.

Luc
06-25-2004, 12:07 AM
I'm not sure what you mean by ghosted elements.

michaelk
06-25-2004, 05:44 AM
Here's what I need, and please email me to: mdkinstlinger@shimadzu.com

1. The light blue/grid background you used for this image (not the instrument or text on it)

2. The blue grid background you used for this image (not with the text on it)

3. The blue grid background you used for this image (no text)
