I have a new business with a few partners to provide Interim CEO and COO services to startup and fast growth companies. We've chosen "Athena Chiefs" as the company name, as Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom, and "Chiefs" correspons with Chief Exec Officer, Chief Operation Officer, etc.
My thought is a fairly simple and clean logo with Blue and White as the primary colors. That is the greek flag colors as well, though interestingly there isn't a specific shade of blue specified on the Greek flag. The tagline is pretty simple at this stage: "Interim CXO Services".
The two symbols I've seen associated with Athena on the web are:
1. A white owl (again, specifying wisdom)
2. A Greek War Helmet - basically the Sparta type (might be appropriate with the Chiefs second name)
I don't want indian feathers! :D
I think I would want the Athena name displayed more prominently, as we could replace the Chiefs with something else at some point (there was some disagreement on the last name). One other alternate suggested was "Athena Business Chiefs" with the A - B - C emphasized (ABC Company - get it?). If a second color other than blue was used, I like red, btw.
This is my first time using Design Outpost, so forgive me if this is ignorant, but I'd want the final format in EPS, TIFF, GIF, and JPG. I'll give extra points to anyone giving a business card layout suggestion (mostly white and simple usually works for me).
My elderly mom is Greek and inspired the name...make her proud! :P
Let's get this party started!

Exciting to see the first entry - thanks!
I would want more emphasis on the name and less on the picture. Also, more emphasis on 'Athena' rather than 'Chiefs'. The word 'Athena' should be the first thing someone sees...Tom.

...I was excited with Greek mythology when I was a kid... Those were the times :)
2 plain colors in this one.

This red one with the Spartan helmet is pretty cool. I think the red block area by the helmet could be cropped a bit and lowered to the wording (and/or the wording spaced out just a bit more), but overall, it really got my attention. Great job.
I don't think the reverse image does much for me - I would like to see more on just the individual logo, and then see how it might look on a Business Card.
My last company was red and black, so I thought I'd try blue and white this time. After looking at this, I decided I could do red again. It's a great eye catching color. I have a soccer/football shirt for the Athens club, and it's also very red and white, so that's what I could tell my mom if she asks what happened to her greek flag! ;)
Would love to see another iteration of this one...

Here is a very simple but effective design.

...the square block downscaled. Font for "Chiefs" is set to a narrow font (allusion to Pantheon's columns :) )

Muv - could I see a mix of your two designs you did in blue? Basically, if we call the first design with the helmet on the side "#1" and the design with the helmet on top "#2", I'd like to see:
Helmet on the side like #1
"Athena" font like #2
"Chiefs" set proportionally to Athena like #2, though in the darker blue like #1
"Interim CXO Services" set proportionally to both words below, like neither design, but it could be the light grey color. The letters will be smaller anyway on the basis of not having so much space, but not as small as #1 where they are too small IMHO...Tom.

Let's face it... you just can't pass up an opportunity to work with a Spartan war helmet. ;)

hello, I'd like to submit an idea . . . a simple type treatment I came up with based on the letters of the greek alphabet.
thanks,

My inner circle has voted, and agreed with me on Alex Kogan's red and black spartan helmet logo as the best overall design. I'd like to see the block on the helmet mostly eliminated, leaving a purely outlined helmet, but that's the kind of thing we can talk about during the revision phase.
You also were not penalized for mixing up the Pantheon (which is in Rome) and the Parthanon, which is in Athens! B)
I'm a first timer, so let me know what I need to do next to move forward. My e-mail is tom@athenachiefs.com, and I'm anxious to get some business cards printed! :)
I appreciate everyone's efforts! Appropriate with the release of the movie "Troy" to get a helmet of Sparta out there in the business world!...Tom.

Hi, Tom :)
Are you declaring me a winner? If so, you may as well say "the winner is:..." this way we all won't get confused (and the winner feels him/hersel f particularly good :D )
Thanks for not penalizing me for the Pantheon... My head's in the sand :)

Tom, so you want the red block to be eliminated? I'd vote for leaving him because it's meant to define solidity and weight. Without iit it'll be just a helmet like any other helmet.

Can I see a version with the red block eliminated? Others thought it might look better. It would also give more room to the actual words Athena Chiefs.

...here's a couple of variants of the helmet only.

Hi Alex - the folks here like #3-1 a lot. We're getting close.
I would like to see the scale and size of the letters grow a bit in relation to the helmet. The current one has "Interim CXO Services" as a little hard to read.
From glancing at it, if you put the helmet 'as is' to the left side of the letters (as I'm guessing it would normally be on a business card), the letters combined should be the same height. So that would make them all a bit bigger than you currently have them. I would imagine on clothing I might have the helmet on top, but we might just always want to have it on the left side.
The other thing I noticed is the red appears a little lighter. I might be just seeing things, but the first couple looked to be a darker red.

Hi, Tom :)
Here's the #4.
I've separated the lines in the text block a little, and made the CXO line bigger.
I've also changed slightly the CHIEFS lettering (my "columns" idea still works with these, but tere's one less fontface in the design: less "carnival", less enthropy, cleaner design).
The smaller versions are size reduction proof: the design is still recognizable at 30% reduction, but I had to take the CXO line out, for in any case it will be unreadable at this size. They also look much cleaner without it :) I'm not saying to completely remove it (cause it defines your area and such) but it can be removed in certain cases if you like so.
Both vertical and horizontal layouts will be included in the final pack :)
And yes, you've noted right: the color was a bit darker, I've changed it back in this one.
What do you think?

Methinks it is beautiful! If should could ship over all the various format types of both logos, I shall start getting it on my letterhead, PowerPoints, signs, etc.
On to the Business Card!...Tom tom@athenachiefs.com
