Hi again, (Admin code added by Palmer - T4752111)

We've been so impressed with the entries for the Haywoods logo competition that we'd like to start a second competition for one of our products. (hope this doesn't cause too much confusion!)

The product name is a registered trade mark in the UK & is called 'Early Bird'.

Profile :

Bird food product

Details:

We are looking for a fun design that would appeal to the general public. Something that sticks in their minds.

The following must be present:

- The words 'Early Bird'

Other than that it's up to you. One suggestion might be the use of light to give the image of dawn breaking. Another could be the use of a bird & a worm (early bird gets the worrm & all that...)

We'd like to close this competition on the 30th April 2003.

Look forward to your entries,

Best of luck....

Please submit you designs. I'd like to close the competition on the 30th April.

Good Luck!

What about putting a blackbird in the foreground with a worm in its' mouth?

Like it! This is definitely on the right lines.

Some small tweaks if poss.....

- Can you flatten the sunshine in the background (i.e make it less round - hope this is clear)?
- We like the second logo a lot. Is there any way you could shrink it slightly & then frame it?

Thanks again

Victoria

Not quite sure..flatten it? Do you mean.. stretched out lengthways?

Sort of. Thinner & not as high...

DFA

One other thing. As this is a registered trade mark, could you include the Registered & TM characters?

Thanks

HI here is my idea for your logo
Thanks!

Victoria

 I've never seen a logo with both "R" and "TM" on..

DFA

OK. Well its' registered so I guess just the R wil do.

We're getting close.

The favourite to date is Victorias entry Posted on Apr 16 2003, 08:57 AM. (ENTRY 2, with the orange border) -- we like that one. Thanks for the other entries by the way - the standard is very high again!

Victoria - can you progress that one with the R & then we'll be pretty close I think?....

Just to make things clear, are you choosing Victoria as the winner or are you just asking for a revision?

Victoria
04-16-2003, 09:55 AM
Revision I think as yet, Palmer :)
DFA, I wasn't quite sure which one you wanted to include the "R" in, so I put it in both for you to see.

It can be made available in a vector format for a variety of uses.

Palmer - Yes, a revision for the moment. The closing date is set for the 30th April.

Thanks - great website by the way - I've recommended it to 2 new people already this week...

Victoria - We have had another look at the latest logo & we'd like to try one more change if possible.

Could you remove the worm & replace it with an 'l'? & could you then put a smaller worm in the birds beak?

Thanks! ;)

Thanks for your submission. Few comments:

- Could you change the text font to be a bit more formal?
- Could you change the birds colour to black?

Thanks!

We like the orange colour the best.

One thing you could try is to produce the logo in both a gold and silver colour?

Thanks
:P

Victoria

Here they are, but to print Gold and Silver properly they have to be specially printed, I think? :)

Thanks for the heads up Victoria - I think you're right, but I was interested to see how they would look especially from a website perspective.

I'll have a chat with my dad to see if they're any further revisions he'd like.

Thanks again!

Yes Victoria, you are exactly right. To print gold or silver you would need to specify colors from the Pantone Metallics swatch book. (There may be similar systems in the UK, but here in the U.S., Pantone is by far the most widely used)

I think Pantone is used as a worldwide standard for spot colour matching. The only others that I know of are DIC and TOYO and they're spot colour matching systems primarily used in Japan.

Yeah, Pantone is used worldwide as a standard, but metallic colours in Pantone can look a little dull sometimes. Foil blocking is a better alternative - but quite a bit more expensive.

Cre8tor,

Thanks for the revised logo. Our feedback is as follows:

- We've had a look at the design in black & the logo now matches the brief - thanks! ;)
- However, when we look long & hard at it, we feel it is a bit too aggressive as a logo for bird seed. Not sure if I've explained that correctly, but what we are looking for is a friendly, fun logo & somehow the logo doesn't quite portray that. Maybe its' the way that the bird jumps out at you?
- One further revision could be to make the bird one dimensional & side on with the worm in it's mouth?

Hope this helps

Thanks again!

Thank you for your feedback, I'll work on a "friendlier" bird.

Okay... here's another birdie.
He's a little bit different in that he's enjoying the Early Bird seed! (Just in case it's not that apparent in the posted illustration.) The worm, however is relieved, and bears the slogan "Early BirdŽ makes for Happy Worms (and birds).
Just a bit of an idea -- it came to me as I was sketching out "Friendly" birds, and I thought I'd run with it.
please let me know what you think.
(If you like, the worm could be worked in as part of the logo... I was thinking it would better suit ads.)
:D

Ce8tor

Thanks for the update. The bird now looks much more friendly! :D
Could you make a couple of further amendments?

1 - Could you change the text, to the text you used for the second logo when you changed the birds colour (see page 2)?

2 - Could you reduce the size of the logo (I'd like to see how it looks)?

3 - I like the worm, but agree with you that it may be better as part of an ad, rather than in the logo - could you take it out for the moment?

Thanks!

;)

Okay... hope this is the right font. It's the one from the second black bird entry.
I've let the worm go, and posted the bird-only logo in a variety of sizes.
Please keep in mind that this logo is Vector art, and will be fully scaleable and resolution-independant.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Cre8or

Thanks for the update. This is now looking very good.

Could you make the following changes:

- Remove the seed. This then makes it look as though the bird is yawning & just waking up
- I'll get back to you on the font. Can you try a few more variations - using Arial, one or two 'rounded' type fonts etc

Thanks!

I'll step in here and end the revisions. Let's just assume if the logo is chosen she will be happy to make a few small changes. :)

The winner is cre8or, for the entry (Posted on Apr 23 2003, 06:57 PM). Well done for a clever piece of design and for creating a real character and a 'friendly' bird.

See you all again soon!
