(Admin code added by Palmer - 18649492)

UPDATE: Round 2 has begun and requirements have changed - see my next post. $100 USD prize for PowerPoint Layout & sample Software package (wallpaper optional)

Company Name: ClinSaver Software Inc.

Company Profile: ClinSaver performs consulting services, data analysis, strategic planning and develops software tools used by hospitals, trusts and other healthcare facilities.

Intended Audience: Aged 30-60, middle class, international audience, healthcare professionals. It is imperative that our marketing, advertising and all corporate identity materials be designed for sophisticated professionals (managers, financial analysts and CEO's of hospitals and related institutions) - we do not sell flashy software designed for teenagers.

Project Scope:
Round 1 - $125 USD prize: Corporate Identity Package including: letterhead, envelope, business card, fax sheet, report cover and report inside page (templates only - see detailed description below). Feel free to design just the letterhead/business card and/or report cover as samples, but all items must be submitted at a similar quality and design style for the final deliverable.
This prize was changed from $125 to $150 since the winner also submitted additional designs from round 2 that we will be using. Round 2 requirements have been lowered.

Once the winner of round 1 is declared, the competition will re-open for round 2 (the winner of round 1 is eligible for round 2 also).

More Project Details: All corporate identity materials can include generic text - I will fill in the real details (address, names, phone numbers, etc. and any content text). I am looking for a majority of time to be spent on the business cards, report covers and letterhead. The other materials can include a simpler design and be variants of those three designs.

Round 2 - $100 USD prize: Additional Corporate Identity materials including: software package, wallpaper (optional) and PowerPoint templates. (the design of these items can overlap - a detailed description is posted in the next message).

Mood or tone: Our firm is changing, with a new product launch on the way and many new employees we hope to show off the new and improved look of Clinsaver! The design should portray a clean-cut professional image with a cutting edge design, the word "Clinsaver" should be easily recognizable.

Colour Psychology: We want a clean-cut look (lots of white space) - nothing too bold, dark or fluorescent. The colour scheme should work well with our new logo (Blue: PANTONE 647 C 100% / Orange: PANTONE 7409 C 100%).

Similar Industry Presence:
Cognos (http://www.cognos.com/)
Siemens (http://www.siemens.com/)
Praxia (http://www.praxia.com/)

Resources: Attached is a copy of our new logo. If we can provide anything else (or help you source images, fonts or anything else) please let us know.

Our new icon (thanks Just_G!) - feel free to use just our logo & emblem and/or the icon in your designs.

(actually Mark's package is offline right now, I'll see if he'll put it back up for review).

Formats:We prefer CorelDraw / Illustrator / Photoshop (all PC based) formats for these materials. However I have a mac and many other packages that I can covert between if necessary. Also, documents are printed in-house, at print houses or distributed in PDF format.

Round 1 Deadline: June 22nd, 2004. (FINISHED)
Round 2 Deadline: July 7th, 2004.

** We reserve the right to end this contest early (to save you time) if we find a suitable design before the deadline OR extend the deadline at our discretion.

Other Requirements: The design(s) must be scalable (preferably vector) and we require all fonts and other inputs to be provided. Providing additional colour schemes and/or sample layouts would also be helpful. All works submitted should be suitable for print and new-media (PDF letterhead, etc.) usage.

The successful design(s) will be purchased from the designer and all reproductions and usage rights will be transferred to us – you may not use this design(s) in any way other than as a portfolio piece.

PS. I hate giving design constraints, if you break my “rules” you might surprise me with something better!

UPDATED (FEWER) REQUIREMENTS!

Round 2 has begun!

bogglins won round 1 with this design (http://www.clinsaver.com/temp/2/winner.gif). Sources available here (http://www.clinsaver.com/temp/2/source.cdr) (see both pages).

Sorry for the back and forth / unclear guideliness. I've changed (decreased) the requirements for Round 2 to just the powerpoint design.

Presentation / Powerpoint Design:
We require 2 design styles: a cover page and a regular text page. We would prefer that you provide the graphic sources (photoshop / illustrator) and the final product in PowerPoint with font settings, however if you don't have access to PowerPoint then just the design styles (sources) will do.

High-rez image(s) on the design(s) would be nice. ie: each cover page or page header could contain a different image (we would use our own images).....but Vector only is fine also.

Optional: Wallpaper Design
As an option, we would like a variation of your powerpoint design submitted as part of the final submission to be used as Windows Wallpaper (1280x1024). This is only an option for those of you who are enthusiastic, and is not a requirement for this contest.

Round 2 Deadline:July 7th, 2004.

Thanks and good luck!

Two quick questions:

All corporate identity materials can include generic text - I will fill in the real details

1. Since you will be filling in all the contact info yourself, what program do you need the files sent as?

we require all fonts and other inputs to be provided.

2. Is your company willing to purchase commercial fonts or are we required to stick with fonts that can be freely downloaded?

camt
06-17-2004, 11:37 AM
ElKootcho, great questions. I prefer to receive work in CorelDraw / Illustrator / Photoshop formats, but I can accomodate other graphic programs such as Quark.

Free fonts are best. We can dig through our font cd's if you use something different or if necessary (ie: if your design really blows us away) we would definetly look into purchasing a font(s).

bogglins

in what format should we deliver the fax sheet, report cover and report inside page ... ?
corel draw as well? or word doc?

camt
06-17-2004, 06:58 PM
Word is better, but either works fine.

We currently use Word but I may choose a different applications for our reports. As long as I have your source files I should be able to convert them if needed.

Carl

Will PDF files work?

I know when pages are created in Word, they are formatted based on the version of Word you are using and the printer you have installed as default on your system. I have seen some pretty messed up pages come out of Word when files are transferred. Especially MAC to PC and vice versa.

Also, are you PC or MAC based? That will have an impact on export selection for the document files and will also affect the font selection so as to make sure the fonts are available in a compatible file type.

As long as I have your source files I should be able to convert them if needed.

I think it is ok for Illustrator format for everything, isn't it?

Carl - we are PC based. thanks for the advice, we will actually be distributing PDF files, originally created in Word or most likelly CorelDraw.

Just_G - yes, Illustrator is fine for everything you submit.

camt
06-18-2004, 05:40 AM
Just_G - thanks for the submissions. It might be a little too plain - yeah, yeah, I know I said simple and white space :) However I also really like it.....I don't think I can provide you with much more of a critique until I see the other submissions (sorry).

bogglins - haha, you still snuck your signature yellow backdrop in :) anyhow, it looks really good, I'll take a look at your second concept later also. thanks!

Everyone - I will do my best to send as much feedback as I can. Honestly, these 2 designs so far look really good but I think my best critiques will come once I find work that jumps out at me......in the logo competition there were some that looked good and some that didn't. Here, I really don't think I'll find much I don't like so I'll just have to point out the ones that I like more than others. okay?

thanks and good luck!

Because your product is your software, I felt the most important thing would be the association that your clients have with the memorable icon, so it takes center stage in my layout.

Carl - nice, design I like the bottom however I'm not crazy about the lone ball just sitting there. What if the design was basically flipped upside-down?

ElKootcho - thanks for the feedback. I may extend the competition a few days in lieu of father's day weekend (I didn't realize the impact it would have).

Just_G - nice designs, thanks again for the entries.

EVERYONE - I will show these designs (and any other entries) in a presentation tomorrow morning. At that point we'll decide a winner / ask for minor revisions / or possibly extend the competition since there hasn't been too many entries. However, the entries so far are really good so hopefully we won't need to extend it.

thanks.

and the winner is...........bogglins!

bogglins, GREAT WORK. We really like your 2nd and 3rd submissions (WOW!). We would like to know if for the winning entries we can have the 3rd submission as the stationary / corporate ID package....but with the business cards from the second submission?

everyone - thanks again for your submissions, once we get the details of our final product from bogglins we will start round 2. In the meantime, please start thinking of ideas for powerpoint and wallpaper designs. These two designs may match bogglins work or be completelly different.....but should use similar design / colour techniques. Thanks again.

camt
06-23-2004, 07:06 AM
EVERYONE please do not start designing any package designs just yet. Given the nature of bogglins stationary designs (and how transferable they would be) we might change the prize amounts (if this is permitted) to increase bogglins prize to include package designs AND decrease the round 2 award to only include powerpoint and wallpaper designs.

I want to talk to the mods about this first and any feedback would be appreciated.

thanks.

sure we can arrange the business card and the stationery from those 2 different concepts.....

bogglin's thanks for the offer, but as per the original contest posting I will put our actual information onto the stationary - you just have to design the layout with any fake info you wish. but....if you really want I can PM you the details if you prefer to make the designs "complete".

thanks.

Thanks for the advice - I have changed the requirements....everything can be found in the second post of this thread. But just to clarify:

What I want:
I want a PowerPoint Template (cover page & inner page) and Desktop Wallpaper designed (the wallpaper can / should be just a variation of the pwoerpoint template).

What I'll settle for:
I will settle for just the PowerPoint template.

camt
06-29-2004, 09:31 AM
Hey all, sorry for the back and forth. Given the lack of submissions and bogglins post I have changed the requirements. All you need to submit is a powerpoint template (just the graphic files of what our presentation should look like is fine if you can't want to submit an actual .PPT file).

Anyhow, can I get some feedback if this is fair or not? Can I also hear from those who are competing?

Thanks!

great, the deadline is set at July 7th, 2004 - but there is a chance I'll have to extend it since I'm away for the Canadian long weekend after tomorrow (and won't be able to provide feedback for a few days) and with the USA long weekend also I want to make sure that I get a handful of submissions before choosing a winner.

Carl,

Thanks for the designs (phew, I've got atleast 1 entry now) :)

Anyhow, the software box looks amazing - thank you for that extra design (even though its off the list). Your start page looks really good and I like the use of the 3D emblem in the background, however the colour scheme is a little too dark and "old school" looking. We are looking for something with a newer and cleaner / fresher look.

I'll post some pics of powerpoint slides I have designed / used recently to give you a better idea (in no means does this mean copy the style since I'm obviously looking for something new)....but they will hopefully give you a better idea of what we are looking for.

thanks!

Yes....the design guidelines that I wrote (first post in this thread) apply to all works in this contest. Actually, that is why I chose to just have two rounds rather than re-starting another thread since all the project info is the same.

Carl,
It looks great, thanks for the entry. Please Note: we are not using bogglins design that has the swoosh in the top, so feel free to include the blue / yellow swoosh style header - but it is not a requirement since it doesn't match our other materials (but looks good in your submission).

camt

ElKootcho - it looks great, thanks. I like hwo you incorporated our emblem as the bullets in the powerpoint also - nice touch. The wallpaper looks good (I'm not crazy on our emblem design with the sphere - we'll use it as an icon but I don't know if it will be used for anything else). Your logo treatment is nice also but I'm not too crazy about the header design with the scan lines....it doesn't seem to fit in as well with the rest of your work.

PS. Sorry for the late critiques. It was an extra long weekend for me so I've been away since Weds night.

carl, yes it was changed. We decided his 3rd design, however after trying the design in print it didn't look as good so we got rid of the swoosh...and basically ended up with his 2nd design.

Again, I appologize if this was confusing, but that is why I attached the source files to the contest to alleviate any confusion.

Also, having that swoosh ontop of your design looks good. I did not intend for you to remove it, I was just letting you know so that you didn't keep the swoosh there as a design constraint.

thanks,

Carl

Carl, ok thanks. Since the software box is an extra there are no changes required. For the Powerpoint could you please just design an inner page....and if you can put it in Powerpoint format that would be great....if not I'll work on that myself once I get your sources.

oh and as far as an edit is concerned, I was hoping that you could darken the lines at the top of the page a little (blue and orange) as they are much brighter than the logo colour scheme. I see that they fade into the actual colours, so maybe the darker end of the fade could be larger.....do you get what I mean?

thanks.
