Hello all,

This is Matt

I am looking for a proffessional, and stylish looking brochure/pamphlet.

I am looking for an 8.5" X 11" - Tri-fold brochure, We are printing this one 4/4.

This is what we do:

We are a high end picture framing and art gallery (our main business is picture framing).

Our company name is Dickinson Gallery (the font for our name is "old english" along with the logo are two things I always keep consistant).

Our tag line is : "Framing Studio and fine art"

I have the write up that I want to include in the brochure so basically what I am looking for is the design of the art work and the lay out of the text. The file for the text is approx 1.1MB not huge but too big to upload here, so Phill is going to enable it for download.

Any Questions please let me know

Hi Mike I am working on that!!

I have a selection of photographs of framed art that we have done.

But in the mean time let your imagination run wild.

Please use any royalty free images you have available for now. :shifty:

Hi!

What file format would you like it in? :)

matt2004
06-29-2004, 11:54 AM
OK here are some of the specs:

300 DPI (minimum) And CMYK

I would like the artwok layers to remain intact and editable for future revisions. DO NOT FLATEN ARTWORK

Thanks Matt

So do you require a PSD file? Typically all of my print work is done in Quark which is what I prefer (Text is so much easier to manipulate than Photoshop) but can deliver in whichever format that you need.

Mac or PC? (for font issues.)

matt2004
06-29-2004, 12:14 PM
Well Mike,

I am submitting the text file in word format. you can do what you please with it. I would assume that PSD file would be a better idea.

Re the Font, the style I was reffering to was a PC font.

Thanks Matt

Hi Everyone:

Ok, the files can be created in any application you want. We support both MAC and PC. Please include any fonts you use with the final file. Make sure that the final final is still editable. This includes the photos, layers and text. If the client wishes to change some text for the next version of this job, or maybe swap out a photo, they should be able to. The client will own all rights to this artwork once it is complete. I will be reviewing the final files before they reach our pre-press and will let you know if they are acceptable.

IMPORTANT - Please be sure to add bleeds to your files if necessary and please keep all text within .25" of the outside border. If you are unsure how to set up a file let me know and I will send you a link to one of our tutorials.

All the best,

Phil Knight

Hi Phil

Not wishing to cause trouble here but the majority of font user licences strictly forbid redistribution. :(

The designers can however link to font houses and download locations - for which there may be a (third party) charge. :)

Here's what I have going so far. Take a look and let me know if this is headed in the right direction. If so I will continue with the interior sections. Plus, as I mentioned, the images are just web grabs so they'll need to be updated with whatever you have available (can you get promo shots from manufacturers or distributers?)

Hi Everyone,

Great to see an entry for this contest, it is looking good. Matt will guide you from here on the design.

ARTWORK: Please use standard fonts, or royalty free fonts that can be included with the artwork, we do not want any issues when it comes time to go to press. ***You must include your fonts with your file submission and your layers are not to be flattened.

PDF: For printing purposes we accept .PDF files, no problem. However, this is a design contest, and the client will need to have the original files. Illustrator, corel draw, Quark, or photoshop would be preferred. Just remember that he may want to change something next year and we want to make it really easy for him.

Images: Matt will send you a link once he has the images ready in the meantime comp something together like ElKootcho has.

Thanks,

Kootch :D Very good layout and design I am liking it so far .
Try to work in the cover a bit more, and BTW Our Tag or slogan is "Framing Studio and Fine Art"

Try to change the colour a bit, maybe try the yellow-green pallet.

The map that you used is good but you forgot the most importand piece of information the "401 Hwy" which is the thick diagonal road at the top of the map.

I am going to get those graphix ready today in the afternoon, so you'll have them for use
I see now that I'll have to take more photographs of frames and corners for ou guys.

Thanks Matt

Great job but Let try to get a different image in the front cover (maybe the guy on the horse) and instead of a baseball jersey lets try a hockey jersey, perhaps the Mapleleafs one that I sent as part of the photos. Here is an idea do you think you could use one of the galleries "inside" shots intead of a generic one?

Keep up the good work. I like the current layout so far but lets see if you can come up with a couple of diferent layouts I like to hsve some chioce in them.

:weep: Just beautiful!!!

OK lets try to make the grren a little bit lighter try 15-25%, or what ever you think it will not make it look so black like. And also lets try to change the three framed pieces on the back (next to the "map"). Another thing I like you to try is the two half frames on either side of "our services" it maby a row of frames from the pictures I sent...?

Do what you do best.

Thanks Matt

ElKootcho
07-19-2004, 01:20 PM
I lightened the green a bit and replaced one of the frames on the left page to avoid duplication of the cover. One thing to keep in mind regarding color: what you are viewing on screen is an RGB image. The brochure will be printed using CMYK inks so the color will be a bit different than what you are currently viewing (hense the importantance of printer proofs) so try not to be too color critical as of yet.

If there are specfic frames that you would like used, by all means let me know. At this point it's kind of a guessing game for me. I am basically choosing what I feel are the best quality photos but I can obviously replace them with any others.

Matt,

You can send revised text and any other tweaks to mike [at] kukucka.com. I'll make the changes as they come in and post the updated images here for your review. Once it's nearly finished, I'll send you a PDF so you can take a real close look for any final tweaks or copy changes.

Sign off on that and the final high rez PDF and layered PSD files will be made available for download.

Also, can you ask your printer for exact dimensions that they use for trifolds (or a template)? This will endure that the folds land in the proper places. Thanks

we have to still do something else where you have the "our services" I don't like the way those two half frames look  lets try a whole frame or nothing and maybe expanding the font .... what ever you think would look better let me see what you can come up with.

 NOw that is the shhtuff!! A couple of changes I'd like you to make would be the picture of the "gueese" on the inside of the brochure. Please if you can chage it for the second picture you put on the cover (previouse to the horse)the one of a land scape....;) and that should be the last of itfor that image.

The "our services" area looks better but still a bit blah.... try to do something on the sides maybe this is the way it should be but let's try to stylize it a bit more. Maybe some small photos of the inside of the gallery off to one side or both or something like that??? I know I sent a few photos on the file, actually you did some sort of design like that with "floating" pictures on one side but it was in the front cover of a brochure design that was rejected by us.

One last request do you think you can find a free image of babebal glove and a bat and fit it some where in the "shadow box" area? Just an idea.

Thank you so much Matt!!

ElKootcho
07-24-2004, 11:37 PM
I removed the duck frame and added the previous cover image to the interior section. I can't seem to get the bat and glove into the shadow box area without it looking just way too crowded.

Everyone is a critic Mike!!! :banging:
Ok here is the deal I had the board @ the Gallery review the final(ish) Proof, and there are some modifications we would like to make. Now the changes are coming tomorrow morning to late afternoon, I have them @ the gallery and I don't remember them off by heart. So wait for my lovely message tomorrow. Just wanted to keep you in the loop as to what is going on.

Thanks for all your wonderful work thus far.:D

matt2004

Ok here we go:

For starters please replace this paragraph (second paragraph under the "uv protection")

One important component of this framing presentation is the glazing. Glass serves as a barrier between the artwork and various outside elements such as dirt, moisture and curious observers. Glass should not interfere with viewing a work of art instead it should enhance it. This is why Tru Vue glass products are available in three finish varieties: clear, non-glare and anti-reflective, and Museum glass. All of the above have UV-blocking Conservation. Museum glass has the highest grade of U.V. protective combined with a non-reflecting quality, while appearing as if there was no glass, it is the best product in the market thus far. Tru Vue glass has products to fill every framing need and work well within any lighting or viewing environment.

Ok working on that pages down, can you make the writing on the side of the "dicected frame" model.

OK now the next change is I need you to remove this paragraph:
The final piece in the puzzle of framing is the Dust cover. The function of a dust cover is to protect the piece of art from dust, light and little critters that may feel that your frame is a good place to start a colony. From under "conservation quality at it's finest" . You have used that paragraph in the U.V. section.

Moving alone then on the other side of the brochure the change I need you to do is the following

in the middle on the three pages pleace replace the following paragraph:

At Dickinson Gallery, quality has been one of the cornerstones of our company's success. This, in conjunction with exceptional customer service, is what has made our company an [start Bold] industry leader for over the past two decades [End Bold] . Dickinson Gallery continues to work with frame manufacturers and designers to develop innovative ideas to your framing needs.

OK and the final change please make the address and phone # bigger almost take the whole space down there for it.
