(Admin code added by Michael - G931643L)
Hi all...
My latest contest is for a new client who is building a website that will be a portal to the community of Champion Dog Owners. Logo will be used on website, in print, and on various ad specialty items (t-shirts, caps, mugs, etc.).
The prize for the contest will be $100... I REALLY need this logo finished by next Friday, July 16. I know everyone's busy on this site... but if I get a winner by July 16, I'll add another $100 to the winner's prize (through proper channels of course).
Again, the web site/business name is ChampionStudDogs.com. No slogan as yet.
We want something that's going to look professional, but have no preconceived ideas at this point. The only thing we are somewhat concerned about is the use of any particular breed of dog in the logo. Some might think that the site only caters to that particular breed. But we're open to anything right now... and you guys always blow me away!
The winning logo must meet the following criteria:
1. Should be vectored art
2. Can contain as many colors as you want... but it has to look good in one or two colors too.
3. Whatever font you use should be something in the public domain, have a public font that looks REALLY close, or be part of the Adobe Font Folio.
Any questions, e-mail nathan@brilliantly.net.
Looking forward to GREAT submissions!

First thing that popped into my head on the words "Champion" and "Dog". Feedback appreciated. :)
Thanks Michael, I was too eager to post and hadn't noticed it wasn't there, sorry.

Hello Nathan,
As far as I understand you don't want any particular breed in the logo, so I guess there are only two options - a highly stylized icon, which resembles a dog in general, or a custom cartoon mascot, something so cartoonish, no one can tell what breed that is. So I've tried both ideas, please review and let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Alexander.

Hello,
This is my idea:
Simple elegance, can be used as text only or with icon.
Hopefully invokes a feeling of "Pure-Breeding".
Please advise,
Kimber.

Alrighty! Thanks for the quick posts!
I forgot to mention that I'd like the logo to include some kind of branding mark that can be lifted from the logo and used independently as needed.
Here's some individual feedback...
Victoria
Ribbon idea is good... but it needs to be integrated more closely with the text in the logo. Right now the text and the ribbon seem like 2 independent elements.
Samoyloff
Love the concepts (both). I like the idea of a cartoon dog that we can use for a branding tool. The black and yellow also is a good design, but I like the orange better. Not sure how I like the verticle .com though.
Buginajar
Great concept! Simple and sharp. But how will it look in black and white?
TeeTee
Not sure I like the font. The trophy is not bad... but it starts to violate the "one particular breed" rule I lined out originally. Also, I'd like to see the elements of the logo tightened up so they relate to one another. As is, seems like they are 3 independent elements.
Cre8or
I like your second (bottom) idea much more than the top one. However, the dog almost looks like a cat (grin).
:D Keep it up folks! Great work so far!

Thank you,
It was supposed to be a stocky Bull Terrier (my favourite breed).
I'll try to refine and bring more bark into play.

Hi Nathan, Thanks for the update. Simplicity is indeed a valid description, the following works well in color and b/w. Let me know :)

TeeTee
I like the ribbon on the C and I like the pawprint. But not both of them together. Still a bit too busy. Try separating them into 2 logos: one focusing on ribbon only and one with just pawprint.
Thanks! Nathan

Altered the previous post Nathan. Question ...would you want a mascot to be created as Alexander had pointed out?

I will post a black and white version today after 4pm central. Also, I'm thinking about makeing the rectangle on the bottom a different color to make the "champion" 'pop' a little more. What do you think?

Nice revision. We like the last one with the paw print.
Buginajar
Sounds good.
Samoyloff
I like this version alot better.
Regarding the Mascot Concept...
I think a mascot would be ideal for this site. I'm not sure how the rest of the team will like it... but it's certainly worth investigating!
Thanks all. Great FAST work so far!

Hi all... RE: Mascot
Just talked with another member of the team and got confirmation to try this idea... How about a mascot that is a studly dog? Off the top of my head, I'm thinking about something that would be what "the Fonz" would look like as a dog. Leather jacket... sunglasses... the works.
Shnickerdoodle and TeeTee - designs are good... but I want to stay away from "cutesy" and go more of the junkyard dog "tough and studly" look. Jeez, what a conversation...
Buginajar - I love the design. Now we'll have to see if a mascot wins out vs. straight text.
Have a great weekend!

Hi all... sorry for the delay in responding. Here's some feedback...
Shnickerdoodle
We really like your logo using the retreiver. My partners like yours the best. Let's try some different fonts...
Teetee
You've definately captured the Fonz. (grin) Maybe a little too heavy on the cheese side (another grin).
Samoyloff
Yours is still my favorite. The leather jacket looks a little like Dracula, though. I like your font treatment best.
You guys have done great work with the mascot. Let's try a few more choices without a mascot using things like the pawprints and medals as submitted on the first page.
Thanks all. We have a meeting today and we'll go over the submissions so far together.

Nathan,
You're right, the high collar made the dog look like Dracula. Here's the revised concept.
