Where to start! NitroHost will be a domain registration and web hosting company primarily targetting personal users. The dominant customer segment is likely to be males 18-40.

The site itself will be the subject of a seperate design contest once the logo has been completed. I hope that's not putting the cart before the horse

The design will be Windows XP style with the look and colors that the stock XP theme makes use of. This means that the dominant color will be XP blue with hints of red, green and yellow. I don't want bright primary colors, they should be as close to the softer colors used by XP as possible.

The site's slogan will be "Supercharge Your Site" and that should be worked into the logo. The impression that we want to give is speed, speed, and ermmm....speed. There's a strong probability that we'll be trademarking the logo and slogan, so feel free to include the TM symbol in there.

As a 100% online company it's highly unlikely that we'll have any need for offline use, so don't worry about keeping it to 2 or 3 colors or making sure it looks good in black and white/greyscale.

That's about all my left-side-biased brain can come up with for you. If anything needs clarifying please don't hesitate to ask. Deadline for entries is 28th July, so 10 days from today.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for breaking the ice. Posting the first design must be like being the first one to hit the dance floor at the office party!

Although I like the design that you produced, it's not quite where I want to go with this. I'm thinking of "nitro" in terms of nitrous oxide that's used to supercharge cars (hence the slogan) rather than nitro-glycerine which is what you went for I think. Also the colors seem a lot more in your face than the XP color scheme and I'm not sure how they'd work with a predominantly blue website.

Here's a thought: how about a gauge (like a fuel gauge) with a scale that goes from XP green through XP yellow to XP red? With a needle on it that's buried firmly in the red zone?

Simon.

Now we're talking!

Teetee that second revision looks really good. Would you mind doing a revision of that one for me that...

- has the scale on the gauge going from green -> yellow -> red (as in your first revision) with the font as a solid color.
- uses a slightly less "futuristic" font. I really like the fonts that Bill used in his initial design.

Thanks,
Simon.

Btw the fuel gauge idea was just that - an idea. I wouldn't want it to deter you all from trying something different, just figured it might help to clarify the "Nitro" piece and give a starting point.

Simon,

Can I receive some feedback on my concept, please?

Hi Alexander,

Sorry. I saw that you'd removed your first one and completely missed the second. My bad

The concept really doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. It lacks the green and red of the XP colors, and also doesn't suggest speed to me. If I had to try to verbalize it I'd say that it was a little tame for the site. Tame isn't quite the right word but it's the closest one I can think of.

Apologies for the delayed response, the last couple of days have been hectic to say the least.

teetee: The top logo is excellent, and I'd certainly consider that as done. The second revision didn't do it for me in quite the same way, but then you already have one logo that'll be in the final reckoning so can't be greedy eh!

Alexander: I like this concept much better. Could you stretch the "Supercharge Your Site" piece out so that it looks a little less "lost" please? I'd also really like to see it with the same scale that you've used for the gauge but with a round black surround like you'd have in a car.

Best wishes,
Simon.

Since you threw the idea of the gauge out there... ;)

if that is possible, don`t pay much attention to colors themselves. the idea is , i believe, readible and clear, and what i hope for - a good one. the full-colour and B&W versions are both same useful.
i am curious what you think of the concept...
wishes,
p

No more entries please. Thank-you to all the designers for their time and effort, but nothing is really jumping out at me or giving that XP feel that I was looking for. I've asked the people who run DesignOutpost to close the contest accordingly.

Apparently contests must have a winner if more than 3 entries are received even if the contest owner isn't satisfied with any of the entries. Hmmmm. So TeeTee you're the winner.

Mods: Please now close this contest and pay TeeTee. No point sending it to the revisions forum as I don't actually want the logo.
