My business name is Cherry Mountain Kennel, and I have a web site at www.cherrymountainkennel.com . ( I did the web site myself, and it probably shows - but I need a logo before I get the site upgrade!) I do boarding, grooming, and dog training.
I've been using a "public domain" illustration for a mascot, and I like it but have seen others use it, (the original is black, but I colored mine, you'll find him on my web site) so I want something that's my own, that includes the business name. I have Airedale Terriers, among other breeds, so if there's a dog in the image I'd like it to be an Airedale.
We're in the Great North Woods region of New Hampshire, and the business is named after a nearby mountain. We have woods and fields where we walk dogs, and a small river where they can swim. This is a great doggie vacation spot! I have a hard time figuring out advertising because I'm doing all these different things - board, groom, obedience train - and want to give equal attention to all of those things without focusing on any one of them. It's hard to do that and keep things simple at the same time! Help!
I'd like a logo that I can use in print ads, on business cards, in my web site, and have embroidered on clothing and made into decals for my vehicle. I'll want .jpg and I'm not sure yet what other formats I might need - I will look into that!
I'm not sure what else you need to know - I don't really have any specific ideas about what I want, so toss some ideas at me!

Have I forgotten anything you need to know?

Thank you, Michael! My first thought is that the dog looks sad. I like having the mountains in it. Here's what Cherry Mountain looks like from here, this is a photo my partner took and added text to, I don't seem to have a copy without the text but if anyone wants to try something with Cherry Mountain's shape, this will show you what it looks like.

Sorry that was so big - on my monitor I had to scroll to the right to see the mountain - the ones on the left end are part of the Presidential range, Cherry Mountain is on the right end,
It was smaller when I looked at it before attaching it!

Hello, thanks for the panoramic view. I have taken the mountain range and drawn it in the background to associate your name.Hope to hear from you:D

This is harder than I thought it would be, and you guys are doing all the work! Schnickerdoodle, you've almost got the mountain - Cherry Mountain has 3 summits and you've got two of them. May I see yours with the mountain looking more like it really is? Locals will recognize the silhouette if it's more accurate. Maybe a different font, and the letters in the word "Kennel" are too far apart. Is there any way to get the words "Boarding, Grooming, and Training" in there without making it too busy or crowded-looking? Maybe take the "ing" off the words so it's "Board, Groom, and Train" ? Or does that sound weird? I like the dog's stance, he looks ready for fun! Can he have a black Airedale saddle? He looks more like an Irish Terrier. all red.

Teetee, I like yours too! Can I see it with the mountain silhouette recognizable as Cherry Mountain? And maybe a different color? I like your dog too, but his eyes make him look a little bit crazed... but then terriers are like that.

Hi, Cindy :) I've edited your post and made the image you posted significantly smaller to keep the board to its size. We try to keep the image posted ehre within 400 pixels wide to allow the users with 800x600 monitor resolution to read the board comfortably :)

Good luck with your Project!
Cheers!

These are so nice I'm having trouble deciding. I'm going to get some opinions from family and make a decision this weekend. Stay tuned!
Thanks for shrinking that banner, Alex. I didn't think how big it would be when I attached it!

Schnickerdoodle, you are the winner of my logo contest! I'd like a couple of minor changes, so I guess we can move this to the revisions forum now.

Thanks to the other entrants, you do such nice work it was hard to decide!

What's next?

In your first submission, I think the shadows on the mountain are better than in the most recent. I'm wondering how this would look if the color of the lettering was the same as the tan part of the dog - the reason being that for some things, fewer colors will be less expensive to make.
I'd also like to see how this will look in the B&W and grayscale versions you posted before.
I hope this is considered "minor revisions" - I meant to look that up in the FAQ but didn't get there yet!

Here are the revisions with the old shadows from the first submission put back in and the a couple of type and placement options as well as the greyscale and black and white versions...

I like the compactness of the one that has the dog standing on the word "Kennel." I like the lettering in tan. My friend has suggested making the mountain shadows black, for more depth. Will that work?
I love both poses for the dog, looking straight ahead and looking up with his head turned, and I'm having a hard time giving up either one in favor of the other, so I'm wondering if I can have the dog with his head turned as a separate file that I could do things with on my own. Is that possible?

Here is two options for the mountain shadows...both in black. Let me know what you think....

Also, no problem getting the dog with the head turned over his shoulder...I will just make that a seperate file of just the dog....

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Thanks,

The top one is it! I've been advised to ask for files in .jpg, .svg, and a .png 2000 pixels wide.

Deanna, there is a problem with the file overdog.jpg - it's all blue! Could you check that, and let me know if I should download it again.
Thanks so much!
