Hi All

Opening a tex mex takeaway in the UK later this year called 'Gringo Tex Mex'.

Aimed at the 20-40yr market selling takeaway/delivery.

This could end up as one outlet or 101 so would like to get the branding right from the start. Something in 3 or 4 colours (no gradients) that can be used for signage, adverts, hats, t-shirts & menus etc.

I would like to try and get the feeling of happy, bright, fun, lively and a bit of attitude. Some sort of character would be great, maybe a chilli in a sombrero etc but not absolutely necessary. I'm wide open to suggestions and ideas.

I'm after more of a Moes (www.moes.com) image than a Taco Bell.

Thats it short and sweet. Lets get some initial ideas going and go from there.

Cheers all, Rich

HI Aaron

Thanks for kicking things off.

I like the font used and obviously red is a good colour for subject. Not sure about the Chilli Pepper. First of all i think it needs some separation from the text, also its not altogether clear what the character is for first timers seeing the logo.

But on a positive note its a good concept, lets go from here.

Hi Deanna

Good illustration although I feel that it doesnt quite flow. There are two seperate elements, the character and the text. For me they doent seem to work together as they stand at the moment.

Perhaps incorporate the text within a larger oval that works in landscape rather than portrait format. Not sure I like the font, would be happier with something simpler and bolder.

Again a good concept and a v.good start.

thanks, Rich

Deanna

Much prefer the top concept. Its far bolder. Although I feel it has too much red. Maybe use more yellow for the illustration and red for 'Gringo' so that it is more dominant.

I seem to have left my files at my office, so I'll post a revision tonight. I have the same character standing up, but thought this would be a good direction to start with.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi all

The design does not have to incorporate a chilli at all. All ideas gratefully received :D

Feedback for the new entries will be given later tonight.

Aaron - definitely progressing although i feel that the chilli needs more of a mexican flavour, he could be mistaken for a red carrot at this stage.

Deanna - thanks for the revisions, my favourite is the bottom one of the two. I cant think of any further revisions. Thankyou.

nvoke - That is pretty cool. like the chilli. Not sure about the colours, maybe a bit weak. overrall it just doesnt grab me 100%..........yet. Its lacking something, just dont know what. Needs a more impact. I do like the fact that its modern and not too 'old el passo'.

Tonya - like the text a lot. colours a bit weak, feel the chilli needs far more character.

Samoyloff - I do like the simplicity but feel its hard to make out the Gringo text. Overall looks a bit too rigid, needs to be more welcoming, looks a bit stiff.

Fabian - Sorry doesnt grab me.

Thanks all so far. for those that are incorporating a chilli, I feel he/she needs to have bags of character and my only critism so far would be that most have been a bit uninteresting.

Cheers all

Thanks all for the new entries and sorry for the late feedback

Of all the entries so far I have a few favoutites Deanna (mexican dude), Tonya, and Samoyloff. The two that stand out the most being Deanna & Samoyloff (latest design), both bright, vibrant, have a very slick illustration. Also they seem to me to be modern and original.

Other entries whilst being very Mexican seem to be just a continuation of an old theme, time for something new.

I hope this gives some direction.

Samoyloff maybe you could give the character some eyes.

I will draw the comp to a close later this week (thursday), so any new concepts please enter as soon as possible.

Once again thanks for the time spent and cant wait to see more

... and one thing has come up to my head. i once deisgned the website for my personal uses, however, it has never been published, as well, as the font exlusively designed for the project. i decided to use it all here. all, very rough, to make the business stand out out of crowd. tell me what you think of all of that? want to see how i imagine the identity?

Hi all, here's some feedback....

Samoyloff - Brilliant! definitely the one to beat - love the character.

Teetee - Like the concept, although the chilli looks a bit like Jim Carey in the 'Mask'. Would prefer the vibrant combination of red, yellow and black now I've seen it in other designs. The font used would be perfect for a wine bar/restaurant etc, i'd prefer something simpler and bolder.

P Kareto - feel the first design is a little too simple, not keen on the chilli icon. Intrigued with the second and eager to see what you think the identity could be:yes:

Really happy with the quality of entries. love to see more, all ideas gratefully recieved, remember we have no fixed ideas and so would be delighted to see new concepts/identities etc.

okey smokey... I`ve come up with chilly character... maybe a little more crazy, unpredictible ... but somehow fits here well to me.
I also wanted it to look more like an icon, than a cartoon character in order not to let it go outdated soon.
Guess there is a small chance to get through such strong competition, but be sure i had real fun making this one :)
cheers!

Thanks for the entry, I really like it a lot, its not as 'clean' as other entries and v.cool! Its shakin things up a bit:confused:

HI All

Now have plenty of illustrations to choose from, however Aaron has thrown a spanner in the worx by offering a v.good text based logo. Would appreciate more of the same so that we can decide which direction to go in. Initially i was sure that we needed a character within the logo, however aaron has offered a design that i feel is very stylised. would apprecate some more concepts in a similar to this

Hi all,

Thanks for all he fantastic entries despite the poor feedback from me! It turned out to be an ill timed competition due to other work commitments.

With that said would like to name Deanna from shnickerdoodle studios as the winner. Like the last concept a lot, would like to change a few things in revisions.

The mexican dude could be a little larger in the frame perhaps, also the 'tex mex' impairs the word gringo a little, maybe move that down a touch.

So once again thank you to everyone who entered. Deanna will talk to you soon.

Hi Deanna, sorry for delay.

Out of the two I prefer the top one with gringo set against yellow and texmex stroked in white.

Black and white files would be great also.

I need files in tiff format, saved to A4 size. Downloading them at the moment may be a problem because I'm having internet problems. However if you can set up link I'll get them downloaded some how.

Also I will need to have a menu designed when I'm ready and wondered if you would be willing to do it for me, I'll get you the specs in the next few days and perhaps you could quote me a price.

Take care
