Hello, we are looking for a logo design for our sales and marketing company called Blue Island Marketing.
I have an idea in mind for a logo but am open to suggestions!
What I had envisioned was a line drawing of an island with 1 palm tree on it and some lines around the island for water - and the words "Blue Island Marketing" underneath.
I am looking for something sophisticated and a bit understated. Nothing too bold or flashy.
We are in the business of sales and marketing, so I need a "logo look" that can easily fit into both those industries.
Regarding color, I had envisioned the logo in maybe a Caribbean blue or a Caribbean blue & green.
This logo will be used for our website (which we don't have up yet), business cards and print materials, so I would need both web versions and print versions of the logo.
We used Design Outpost for the logo for one of our other businesses and were very happy with the results!
I look forward to seeing ideas for this new logo!
Thank you,
Lisa

Dear Buginajar,
Thank you for such a fast reply!
I love the lettering! And I like the way the "water" looks a lot!
For some reason, the palm tree looks "droopy" to me ...or a bit heavy or something. Is it possible to do a line drawing for the palm tree? Like an outline of sorts.
I was also wondering what it would look like with the art and words in blue on a white background?
I also realize that maybe I am looking for a lighter color version of Caribbean blue. Not quite as deep a blue.
It's definitely a great start to the direction I had in mind.
Thank you!
Lisa

Dear Taldo,
I like the white background with the design in blue. I think I would like to see the design to the left of the letters rather than on top of the letters if we could.
Part of me thinks that the "island" needs more detail and part of me really likes the simplicity of the current look.
I think I will be able to tell more if we can move the design to the left of the company name.
Thank you!

Hi Everyone,
In looking at the designs with a fresh eye this morning I realized that my original vision of an island with a palm tree is looking too flashy and not generic enough for the business image we want to project.
(Forgive me, because I have no design skills!)
1) I really like the look that Taldo did - with just the simple graphic that kind of evokes an "island feeling". Taldo I would love to see the graphic on the left of the company name if possible.
2) I definitely like the graphic to the left of our company name.
3) I definitely like a white background with blue lettering. I also like the blue & grey lettering that Taldo did.
4) The fonts closest to what I envisioned are the ones that Taldo and Buginajar used.
Buginajar - I love that swirl for the water - what would happen if we just removed the island and palm tree all together? And had the swirl and the company name. (Using the white background logo with this most recent submission)
For all the other recent submissions with palm trees - if you would like to re-submit *without* palm trees and maybe just with a simple graphic that has some movement, that would be great!
I apologize for switching mid-stream, but I have no design knack! I only know what I like once I see it.
I am in awe of all of you and your design talent!
Thank you,
Lisa

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for replying with the "non-/island palm tree" versions! The graphics instead of the island give it definitely the look I am looking for!
Looking at the specific designs, there are 4 of them that my staff and I really like. I'll talk about those first. and then go over the ones that maybe with a few changes would be closer to what we envision.
Right now we are leaning towards the designs by Taldo, Buginajar and Carl.
But I am still happy to see new submissions!
1) Taldo - we really like all 3 that you submitted. After printing them out, our team & I both agreed that the first one you submitted with the graphic in the middle really jumps out and grabs you!
(See what do I know about where a graphic should be! :-) )
A close 2nd is the one with the sun.
One question - we really like the sophistication of the grey lettering you used. How would grey lettering look with the "sun" logo?
2) Buginajar - We love the way the water underscores the company name. This new version is great! The "Blue" in blue island marketing looks a little "blocky" or heavy to my team. Is it possible to lighten up the font color throughout or maybe thin the font size in the word "blue". Not sure if that is even possible.
3) Carl - Your submission is also simple and sophisticated! Just what we are looking for. I especially like the lettering. I won't be able to show it to our team until Monday for their opinion. I am kind of going back and forth on the graphic.
I'm not sure the graphic is 100% what I am looking for, but I am not sure why (hows that for helpful?) :-)
I really like the colors of the graphic and the colors of the lettering, I'm just not sure about the actual design of the graphic. Are there any other ideas you might have for graphics?
4) Samoyloff- After starting to see my vision materialize on these pages, I know that I like at least some lower case letters in the company name. Could we give that a try? Also, the graphic looks a bit bold and heavy to me - do you have any other ideas for graphics?
5) Paula - Your designs have a lot of movement! I like that. They are a little too "busy" for what I am looking for. I'm kind of going for a simple understated look. Is there a way to simplify them, but keep the great energy that they have?
6) Deanna - Of the 3 we liked the middle one. Could we try doing the font in a different color than the graphic?
7) Julie - I liked the lettering and the font color on your designs, but the graphics are a little too overpowering for what we are looking for.
8) Tonya and Eagle - Sorry about the palm tree change midway! I do like both of your designs, but we are definitely going with the non-palm tree look!
I will be away from my mail part of today and part of Sunday, but look forward to seeing any new submissions on Monday! I will also show them to our staff and reply on Monday.
Thanks everyone! We are excited to see all this progress!

:) revised
Greetings, here is a rough draft.
A 'B' and 'i' visual merge utilizing negative space. The idea was to give your business a unique identifier with abbreviated association.
( Don't you just love the silly explinations! :D )

Hello!
We are very happy to say that we are getting close to a decision!
We have narrowed it down to 3 logos.....
1) Buginajar - The logo with the water under the word "Blue" and the grey text.
2) Taldo - The grey text with the graphic above the text.
3) Carl - Your original submission. We like that graphic best out of all of the 3 of them.
Thank you also to Paula23, Raja, Samoyloff and Eagle for your new submissions!
Raja - The one with the actual water background was beautiful and made us all want to go swimming! Especially since it was 95 degrees here! However, we are just looking for something that will require fewer colors when we print.
Samoyloff & Paula23 - Thank you for your new submissions - the graphics were a little bolder than we had envisioned for the logo.
Eagle - Very fun design! We are just looking for something a little more understated.
Since we are so close to a decision and will definitely pick one of the 3 mentioned at the beginning of the post, I don't want to take up anyone elses time any further.
Thank you all for the fantastic logo ideas!
I will be back in the next day or so as soon as we make our final choice!
Thank you!
Lisa

Hi Everyone,
After much thought, we have selected the logo! It was a tough decision as we really liked all three.
Carl - We would like to go with the first logo that you submitted!
We all thought that your logo best embodied the image that fits with our company.
Thank you again to all of the other designers for your great submissions.
Now, I'm not really sure what I have to do from here.
Carl - do I work with you directly from this point?
There are no changes that we need to the logo - but I would like a print version and a web version of the logo.
I'm not really sure what else I need to ask for...any suggestions would be appreciated!
I look foward to completing this process!

Hi Lisa. Maybe I can help. Carl said he sent the file link by Private Message ("PM"), not email. Have you checked your messages here at Design Outpost?
To do this, click back to the main forum page (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/).
Below the left edge of the banner ad at the top, you'll see this:
Welcome back, Lisa
You have 1 new message(s).
Or however many messages you have waiting. If it says, 0, then we're back to waiting on Carl. But see if you have any messages first. Just click on the word "message(s)" to view your inbox.

Hi Tonya,
Thank you so much! I didn't realize I had to get the message here at Design Outpost!
I just checked and they are there!
I will review them tomorrow and then post to the forum if everything is A OK - which I'm sure it will be.
I really appreciate your help!
I'm posting another logo request this week for our other company and now I know the whole process.
Have a great day-

Hi Carl,
The logos look great! I had a couple questions though -
When I open the MS Picture It file, the logo displays with with a pattern in the letters (instead of just the solid color) and when I printed it - the word "marketing" has jaggedness around the letters (as well as the pattern in the letters).
Also, I was wondering if you had any recommendations on which file type to use for what purpose?
Which would be best for our website and which would be best for our business cards/letterhead?
I'm never sure which file I am supposed to be using or if it even makes a difference?
Thanks!
Lisa
