(Admin code added by Palmer - F1669804)

How's it going you swell outposters? Thanks for stopping into my thread. I've seen just about everyone's work here. I'm ready to see the smoof logo ideas you can crank out. Let's get rockin'!

Here's the deal. Got a weekly kids program (from birth to 5th grade) that we're really trying to give a super happy fun look to. It's a childcare type of thing where we have three different age groups (see below), but one overall theme. We want everyone (and I mean everyone) to look at this logo and think insane amounts of fun and adventure! :pirate:

Name of overall program: Neema Land
Name of age groups:
Tembos (birth to 2 yrs.), Twigas (3-5 yrs.), Simbas (elementary ages) - These are animal names in another language (elephants, giraffes, & lions respectively)
Contest Ends: August 9, 2004
How many Washingtons? 125 big ones, baby. Yahoo! :woot:

Here's what we're looking for:
This is an African theme, so I'm sure that already helps. We know that this has been used before, so we need something that stands apart. I'd like to see ideas from all over the board, but we would really like to see the three animals somehow incorporated in the logo. I'll see what you guys come up with first and then maybe give you a certain route to try. I never like to put creative minds in too many boundaries.

This logo will be used on signs, letterhead, brochures, web, permanent children's tatoos (just kidding)...geez, I guess just about anything we can stick it on!

If you have any questions please post them and I’ll reply as soon as possible. I will check back a couple of times a day and provide as much feedback as I possibly can. I know you guys and gals like da feedback.

Thanks for using your talent in this contest and good luck! Any fighting and I'll have to put you in time out. :banging:

All copyrights must be transferred if your design is chosen. However, you may use the logo in your portfolio if you wish.

Good morning folks! (at least in the US)

I would love to hear from anyone who is working on something or planning to enter this contest. I'm starting to maybe think that I smell or something. I will reapply deodarant right now.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi,

Welcome to DO. I'm working on a concept for you, and I am sure that many other designers will post their entries soon. It just takes time to create something that looks good. :)

Sorry for the wait on getting you feedback, teetee. Tuesdays are my "crazy morning" days.

Wow, thanks so much for your first idea. You are obviously very good at what you do.

Although it's fun, I'm not sure that this is what I'm looking for. This is going to sound crazy for kids, but I would like something a little more "edgy" (could I be any more vague? ) In getting input from others involved in the program, we would like to see more of a creative spin on incorporating the animals. I also think we could use something with a little more of an African touch. Don't think that the logo has to appeal to just kiddies, we would like adults to say "that is a sweet logo!" (maybe even more so). I didn't give a whole lot of details to start off, so I hope you're not discouraged. I would encourage you to go for "risky" ideas, because I think that's where the best ones reside.

Please feel free to tell me that this makes no sense whatsoever and you think I'm a total nutcase (you might be right)

Thanks again and I hope to see another idea from you!

Tee, you are a design producing machine! :flex: Thanks once again! You are working hard and it is greatly appreciated!

OK, I have to say that this design is definitely pointed more in the direction that we want to go, but still not there. Let me give you more specific feedback:

Like:
-This logo went more artsy...thanks for acting on your previous feedback
-The incorporation of the trees...nice! I think I like yours because they resemble the tree found here (seems very African to me): http://www.krugerpark.co.za/africa_baobab.html If you decide to continue to use trees, could you even make them look more like the trees in the site? I would probably say we can't be too crazy detailed (tons of little branches) for printing purposes...what do you think?
-The style of the lion (very cool) over the other two animals (see why below)
-The font better than your first logo....less "kiddy"

Don't like:
-The elephant isn't bad, but it just doesn't seem to fit.
-The giraffe is interesting, but I don't want to traumatize the kids by seeing a headless giraffe... :lol2: ....nice try.
-I would say that the style of the three animals needs to be the same overall. Don't think I like the multiple looks...
-I'm also thinking that I would maybe like to see a design from you where the name is incorporated more into the picture (rather than separate). Can you make that happen?

Well, hopefully this all came off as constructive. I'm still ready for more of your ideas if you are willing!

Hmmmm...I've got a couple examples of some stuff that I like, but I'm worried about getting y'all stuck in a designing "rut". I don't want to supress the creative genius of you guys and gals, but rather channel it. I would like to hear some feedback on whether I should give these examples now or wait until a little later in the contest.

Also:
Are there more of you who are at least interested in participating in this contest?

I think this could be quite a gun-slingin' showdown :cowboy: if more of the designers out there can take the heat (yeah, that's trash talk to reel you in) COME GET SOME!

I think it would be a great advantage to see some samples of what you are looking for. That way the designers have a direction to work with.I think you will get faster results if you do so.Artists will always use their creative juices, this way we all will have an idea of how to deliver said juices.:)

WHOA TEETS!

That entry just knocked me out of my chair! I didn't even see that one coming! This is by far the best idea you've had. Congratulations on raising the bar to where I hoped it would be for this contest. The other designers better be ready when they step in here! Great work!

OK, now for the feedback:

I would encourage you to continue to run along this type of path. Are you planning on submitting a 4th entry (did I understand your last post right)? I just want you to know that I think your out of control with your multitude of designs, but I love it. I'll take whatever you can throw out.

Possible revisions:
-to simplify, can I see it without the front trees (behind the name)?
-other people won't see this, but I think of the Godfather when I see that font. Can I see more "fun African safari" and less "your kids are in the mob" with the font? :D
-what are the chances that we could do spots all the way up the giraffe's neck (like the body)? Not sure if it will fly...but thought it might look nice (can leave the head the same).

This is all I got right now. All I can say is WOW!

OK, first da feedback for teetee-

Since you've got a logo with a revision, I'll try to do an "all in one" post.

Overall Good:
-Love the font! Looks great. I think it's the best of the four you gave.
-Your giraffe looks awesome! That concept of him leaning over is way cool.
-I actually like the green trees that you put in, can I see the logo in black & white to see how it will print? (this will decide whether they stay or go)
-The lion from the first set is really good too (style)-can I see that guy with a tan body (to match his face)?

Could be better:
-The elephant doesn't seem to fit well with the other two. Don't know if this is a placement thing or a style thing. Any suggestions?

You're darn swell!

Next is Paula! Great to have your ideas in here! Thanks!

OK, gal. Here ya go:

Ole!:
-Colors choices are great! Very African-looking! Nice job.
-Borders on the sides are sweet. Love 'em!
-Your font rules! You are certainly in the ballpark.
-Love the layout...looks like a fun safari poster. Great idea!

Hmmm...:
-Can we see this in black & white for printing purposes?
-The arrangement of the animals is perfect (don't change), but I would maybe like to see a different style of animals for comparision purposes. Not sure if these guys work or not.

This design is a really great entry. Thanks a ton for all your great work! You're tops!

Next up: Amanda! Thanks for partying with us.

This is nice work and very good quality, but (don't you hate that word?) I don't think it will work for us. :( Here's why:

This logo would work great for our really young kids (babies), but we're trying to cover a broad range. I'm afraid this would be too "babyish" for the older kids and they wouldn't be into it. Also, I think the older boys would think the colors are too "girly" (And we all know that girls have kooties at that age!) Thanks for your entry and I hope that you'll try again!

Finally here! Yippee!

OK, I'll try to go in order again. You're first again tee. Since you have multiple submissions, I've got another "all in one" deal going here. I can't keep up with you!

I'm only going to give feedback on your entry from your last entry on page 1 since that's the one I like the best of the last group. I'll give you some quick reasons on why not the others:

-don't like the lion as much on the last entry of the 3rd concept
-the fourth concept is very nice, but again falls into the category of "too young". Don't think that one would stretch over our age range very well. We still need our elementary kids to think their logo is cool. Does that make sense to you?

Here we go with the spotlighted logo feedback:
-I'm going to take some time to get some opinions of some friends before I give you more specific things to do. You have done SO MUCH WORK for this contest and I want to really make sure that I'm pointing you in the right direction before moving forward. Give me some time and I'll get back to you...

Paula is shakin' and bakin' up some logos! Thanks for the new entry.

Like I said above, I want to take some time to regroup and get you some super efficient feedback so you don't waste your time. Until then, I will point out some positives:

-Liking the use of color.
-That triangle layout is very ingenious for the use of the tall giraffe. Two snaps in a circle for you!
-Almost has a "patch" type feel to it. Very nice idea! (don't know if that was intentional)

There will be more to come! Don't you worry!

P.S. I haven't given those examples I previously spoke about because the entries have been too good. Don't want to interrupt this groove we got going on! If I feel I need to, I will!

ugli
08-01-2004, 07:45 AM
OK, teetee. I'll give you some collective opinions to chew on. :chef:

-The big thing I'm hearing from others is the lack of fun colors in the logo. The earth tones seem to not make the logo as fun as it could be. I have one suggestion to add some color...let's try using a more green tree with the giraffe (I know I showed you a tree with no leaves before!) Maybe that's just a place to start. Yellow on the giraffe might be nice, too.
-This is from me, but as your third concept has progressed, the lion seems to be getting lost behind the elephant. I'd like to make sure that he is very visible since he's the king and he'll be representing our oldest kids.
-I'm also wondering if we can simplify the logo a bit by removing the landscape (except the tree). This may or may not work.
-BTW, stick with this font or feel free to try something else: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=95775
-I'm going to be giving at least one example for new/existing designers to explore...maybe this will help you with this logo or any new ideas you may have.

If you have questions, please let me know before you do more work! You're superfly! :cooldude:

ugli
08-01-2004, 08:09 AM
Paula, the microscope is on you :geek:

-Had some people really like your "poster" concept. I printed the black and white and it came out better than I thought; however, I am concerned about the "identifyibility" of the animals to the kids. What I'm about to say is going to be ridiculous, but I'm going to say it anyway...looking for animals that are simpler, but easy to identify.
-I still like the triangle concept and think that it could be very good. I would like to see the symbol with just animal heads, too (of course, the giraffe would have neck). I would say try a new animal style. Also, no trees. It makes it a little too busy. Can you make a triangle with zebra stripes? I think I just told you to change everything except the triangle!
-I would really like you to take a look at the Lion Safari example (it's coming) and decide whether you want to first try revising your logos or try something totally new. I've seen other logos you've done and I think you could pull this kind of logo off nicely.

Again, ask all the questions you want before your pour more energy into it.

BTW: Are you a Sun Devil or a Wildcat?

ugli
08-01-2004, 08:21 AM
Next batter: Michael!

-I've gotten some real positive feedback on your logo. People seem to think that the background is really nice. I must admit, it looks like an African sunset to me!
-I like the elephant a lot. The giraffe and lion seem so-so. I would maybe try a different style of whole-bodied animals or I thought your logo might look good with head shot animals. I'll let you decide.
-The font just doesn't seem to do it for most people. Got something else up your sleeve?
-Your sunset background maybe could look cool with a logo like the Lion Safari (below)...let me know what you think. Hopefully that will help you before you move forward.

Party on, Michael!

ugli
08-01-2004, 08:36 AM
Chocolate! Hey you! Thanks for entering...again, sorry for you having to wait for feedback. As you can see from the rest of the contest, I've been a lot quicker to get back to people.

-Hmmm...Nice color, but I think you may need to try a different approach. Unfortunately, it looks a little too "hand drawn" for me. We are really in need of a polished logo that is unique.
-The thing that is good is that the logo is simple. If you continue with this concept, try just using the three animals and make the giraffe more visible.
-I like all the green grass!

I recoginize all the work you did to produce that logo and I hope you're not discouraged! Feel free to take a look at other logos and feedback and give it another shot!

ugli

DISCLAIMER: The examples/ideas given here are not meant to direct designers away from what they are currently working on. They are meant to be a source of inspiration for a new concept by someone already in the contest (incorporate with an existing logo) or for any designer to use to try something completely different. The point of this is to draw out a little more variety.

Idea #1
Take a look at this: http://www.lionsafari.com/
What I like:
-The animals are simple and even tribal looking. Easy to identify, but really fun! It's so weird how they just happened to pick the same animals that we're using...
What I don't like:
-The name and animals are very separate and I think could be more appropriate for us if they were more incorportated together so that the name can't be missed. I leave you to decide how that could happen.

Idea #2
(Sorry-no example, just a thought)
I would be interested if someone could take this idea and run with it just a bit:
What about not using actual animals at all, but just "Neema Land" with animal-like qualities? Letters that are fur colored, tails, antlers, tusks, manes.....just to name a few. This could be a really good way to focus more on the name "Neema Land" and less on the animals. I am not opposed to that.

I'm working hard to try to give y'all what I think might help. Please give me feedback on my feedback! Maybe my thoughts make absolutely no sense or you feel jerked around...lemme know!

I'll post more if I find/think of them... Thanks guys! :notworthy

Tee, there is no question to your dedication to this contest. You are so snappy at taking the feedback and immediately producing something. Lots of people are recognizing how hard you are working for us...you are up first for feedback, again!

-Your use of color deserves an applause...great job on that.
-You gave me exactly what I asked for, but the overall look of all the logos and the animals doesn't grab me.
-I'm glad to see a logo that incorporates the names and animals. However, the font and the style of the animals just isn't flying. If you want to try this style again, I would say try something totally different. Here's an idea: maybe take your concept and use more of an animal style from the Lion Safari example above? Don't feel like you have to take this...do whatever you want!

I can't believe we still have another week because at your rate, I'll have 50 of just your logos to choose from! I think someone's trying to increase her odds! :brows:

Lemme know what you're thinking and what direction you are going to pursue. You're awesome!

ugli
08-02-2004, 10:15 AM
Yo Bill! Nice entry! What fun! :wee:

-I like the use of the different skins in the logo...you, too have taken my examples and given me what I've asked for. Thanks for listening!
-Your logos are very high quality, no doubt, although I'm concerned about the busyness of this one. I'm also worried about the animals not being fun (kiddy) enough. I think someone in the animal industry would buy this in a heartbeat!
-If it's OK with you, I'm going to send you in a particular direction and give you something to try if you have the time...I would like to see either of your sunsets with a silhoutte of the three animals walking in a line (lion first, then giraffe, then elephant). If possible, I would like to see the animals more of a animated shape than a real shape. Does that make sense?
Additional challenge for bonus points: Put the NL name somewhere within the logo itself, but keep it big enough for easy reading (this may not work-you decide). What do you think of this idea?

As I've said before, don't feel that you have to take my advice (you know your stuff better than me!). People liked the sunset in your first logo and it was so nice that I'd like to see some variations!

Thanks for what you've added to this contest. Look forward to seeing more from you! Bill in da house!

Thanks for joining Fabian! Nice to have your ideas here.

You definitely went African for sure! I must say that people would definitely know where the name came from, but I think this is a little too much for what we're looking for.

Sorry, this logo seems to lack the color and fun we wanted the logo to have. Care to try again? I hope so!

PAULA! Your ideas have created a lot of commotion! I'm getting some rave reviews of your logos! (I'd have to say that they're pretty sweet myself) Let's jump right in!

Logo #1 of this round:
This is so good that this is all I need to say:  I can't find much wrong with it, so I'm not going to ask for changes right now. You took your cool poster idea and outdid yourself! Give yourself a high five for me!

Logo #2 of this round:
Not clear and defined enough for me. Seems like printing this would be very difficult. Going to leave this one behind so I can focus more on the others.

Logo #3 of this round:
Great! You took my example and created an awesome logo! Here's your assignment (should you choose to accept it):
-I'd like to see NL name in the box (or not so separate)
-Like to see no black in the box for comparision
-Can we maybe just try a nose on the lion? The face doesn't look quite right to me.
-Also would like to see a version where we just have heads of the elephant and lion (only bigger).

Logo #4/5 of this round:
Nice concept! I can't believe how many good ideas you came up with at one time! Do you have four separate and extremely creative brains?
-Not much I want to change with the first one of these for now, but can I see without sunglasses? (cool effect, though)
-The second one seems to have something missing in the bottom, wanna try to put something there?

Go Paula...it's your birfday!

P.S. I was a Wildcat for a little while, does that make us arch enemies?

Hey guys & gals!

Just a quick post to let you know that I hope to have feedback up by this afternoon (EST). I'm having this small thing called a "job" interfere with what I would really like to do. :bash: Anyone know how to avoid this? Sorry for the wait....

Word to ya mutha!

Hey Paula! Much thanks for the revisions. These are excellent for comparision!

-I really like the animals without the sunglasses.
-I also like how those first two can be easily separated and used individually. Great concept!
-The purple box you used on the last set is really cool. Also like how you did different fonts for Neema and Land. Nice touch.

Unless you want to submit more ideas, there's not much I need for you to do right now. You have given us a lot to work with. If I think of anything else I would like to see, I'll let you know. I'm going to work on getting others' feedback again.

You're doing a fantastic job! :D

Hiya teetee! Thanks for the new concept.

Here are the things I like:
-The colors are really nice. Again you've taken the feedback and used it wisely. I think those colors look African!
-The bar beneath Neema Land looks great. I think it brings the name and logo more together. Nice work.
-I like the style of the circle. Tribal!

The things that...ummm....well....don't fit in the above category
-I think the animals are cool-looking...nice artistic touch, but they just aren't working for me. Maybe just a bit too abstract for our kids. They are also kind of hard to see on the black circle
-I think I'd like to see a logo with less black. Can you try this logo with no black in the circle and a new style of animals?
-Don't like the font on #3 (yellow) and the last concept is the one I like the least (sorry!-that's just to help)

T, if you work another job, you must be employee of the month every month! You have been great! Let me know if you need more feedback than this...

Are you planning to work any more on this one?:

Great first entry Deanna! Took a look at your site. That's quite a lot of logos! You've obivously (from that and the quality of this one) have been doing this a while. :smart:

Alright, let's jump in...

GOOD:
-Nice color. Fun and exciting. Just what I asked for.
-Animals are very visible and easy to recognize and certainly kid friendly!
-Name is a part of the logo...great!

CHANGES?:
-Can you come up with a little different style of an elephant? It doesn't quite seem to match the other two...(I know it sounds silly, just an opinion). I would maybe even try a different sytle animal altogether...I'm trying to decide whether the animals are too young...do you think a 5th grader would like this?
-Challenge: try to put something African landscapish on the right and left sides of the sun (try something other than trees)..just to see if it works
-Maybe try a different font for comparison.

This is all I got for now. I'm going to get some more opinions on your design so I can point you in a more specific direction. I'm OK if you wait to work on this until then. If you have another idea in mind, go for it!

Wazzup Tee? Hope all is well in your world...

Ready for another round of feedback? And away we go...

Concept 1:
-Darn! :bash: This isn't working either. I think it maybe looks too busy. I would maybe say go back to your original design and try to modify that. I can understand if you are worn out at this point!
-I pictured a different type of green tree. I would either use the tree that's near the words or try a whole new tree altogether. I would say no tree near the name...
-I still like the style of the animals, but I think the elephant could use a little more work to make it's features stand out a little more. It's not as clear as the other animals.

Concept 2:
-Curses! :bash: This logo doesn't seem to "flow" together very well. Still don't like the style of the animals (not clear enough) and the separation of everything.

Concept 3:
-Hmmm.....interesting...if you have the time, maybe develop this one a little more.
-Like your draping greenery....nice!
-Don't really care for the animals (you must want to kill me! :ninja: ) Try something a little more "happy" looking. I'm sure "happy" must be the last thing you're feeling after dealing with such a picky client!
-Whatever you do, try the lion on top--this would be a change to see the lion in the center. Great!
-Let's try a different font...this one doesn't go with this logo

Just so you know, it's killing me to give you negative feedback. I still think you are a great designer! Keep up the great work, gal! You're an animal! Get it? Animal? Man, I'm funny.

Hey Paula....

I PMed Palmer to move us, but in the meantime, let's get the ball rolling so you can move on to other things.

-OK, the logo we like the best is the one that has the borders on the top and bottom of the poster.

-I would like to see the colors reversed for the words (Neema in yellow, Land in green) just for comparison.

-Can I also see a version where the elephant's head is just a bit bigger? It looks like you will have to adjust the trunk to do that, so I hope it's not too much trouble. Let me know if it is.

-Also, in the color logo...I believe we like it with the dashed squares in the background. Makes it more interesting.

-I need your opinion on this...what do you think about the green that's around the lion and elephant head (not the part that's the mountain, I really like that)? I was thinking it may put more focus on the mountain if we got rid of it. Take a look and let me know.

-Just so you know, I think your #2 B&W scheme seems to be the best (this needs the adjustment of the border). I think that will work really well for printing.

I'm assuming you can give me just about any file type that exists, right? I'll make sure to get you a list of what we need.

Let me know if you need any more specifics.

How's life in Sun Devil Land today?

Good Morning!
Good to hear from you! First off things are hotter than you know what in Sun Devil Land......but it's a dry heat,a torrid dry heat!
OK here are the edits. Both logo vesions on the left side are the original designs with the borders adjusted, On the rightside are the logos with the elephants head enlarged (which I do like better) and the green around the head removed. Also the black and white version (also on the right side) is shown with the textured background for comparison.
Yes, I can supply you with any file formats you need. Just let me know and I will get crackin on it!:)
Thanks,Paula

Hi Paula!

Sorry I'm late! We're preparing for a hurricane coming our way here in FL.

Anyway...verything is looking great! We are just about there!

-Can we move the larger elephant's head down just a bit? Seems just a little too high for me. The size looks nice. Thanks.

-Along with the other green, I wanted to try and remove the green that is below the elephant's trunk and to the right of the lion's mane. Can you pop in the blue background in those tiny spaces? Just leave the mountain as the only green landscape. This will be the last thing I need to see, I promise! (Also in the B & W)

-I think I like the "Neema" better as green. Thanks for letting me see it...

Side project?: After doing some brainstorming with others, we were thinking that it would be great to also have a poster for each of the individual animals. Everything would be the same except we'd like the animal head in the center and the appropriate animal name in the header (i.e. tembos). I'm not sure what would be done with the bottom text except to just stretch the picture and make the animal head bigger. I know this is extra work, so know we'd be willing to pay for it (just have to get it approved). I guess what I'm asking for is a quote to do these three additional posters. I'll be able to give you a possible go ahead once I know the cost. You do great work!

Not many hurricanes in AZ, huh?

Hi,
Wow, I hope you are able to avoid that hurricane. That would be scarey!!
Here are the edits.Let me know if all looks good.
I would be happy tp provide you the posters for the individual animals. As far as a quote goes, how does 50.00 each poster, for a total of 150.00. Let me know if you think this sounds reasonable. No hurricane here, only tidal waves of heat and dust during our monsoon season.:help: Talk to you soon,Paula
