[Project Complete] Education Logo - $100

Hi to all,
I am new at this, so hang in there with me. I have a school and I need a new logo. Any help you can give me is appreciated.

Mukilteo Academy is a private school that began as “Kid’s Connection”, a pre-school and kindergarten.
We have grown over the past ten years, expanded our classes and changed the name to Mukilteo Academy. Our current logo is attached.
Our current expansion plans include adding 1st – 5th grade, and building a new school building. We are looking to update our logo to reflect the move to an elementary school verses our current look that is geared towards kindergarten.

We are attached to the kids in the logo, however they need an update. We are also willing to use kids only as a stand-alone detail or in the background, they can be more abstract or modern if you like.
Logo should be clean and simple with a level of sophistication and professionalism.
Prefer a more modern approach, nothing cutesy, no rulers, apples, or pencils.
Must work in black and white.
Colors preferred are olive, black, grey & white. Again, simple not splashy.
Will be used on signage, letterhead, t-shirts, web and printed material.
Need high quality JPG, and EPS.

I was thinking something on a smaller scale. This logo will be used primarily for school sweatshirts and letterhead. Maybe something with just the M and A from Mukilteo and Academy with a small design along side of it or underneath.

Thank you for responding. Can you think of a way to just use the capital beginning letter in each word. It looks to wordy for me but i do like the academic feel.

We will use this logo on sweatshirts and letter mainly.

I wasn't exactly sure what you meant with your comments so I did what I thought would work out.
I did leave in the name, though I made it very small to avoid being overpowering. I added a design using the basic shapes representing a child.
