We are looking for a new logo for our company to appear in both web and printed format.

Company Name: RSK Orbital Limited
Current website: www.rskorbital.com (http://www.rskorbital.com)

If you glance at the website you will notice two things:

1) Our current logo is poor

2) The sort of work we do.

To summarise, we offer consultancy services and products in relation to the taking and delivery of video and still images primarily for planning of new linear infrastructure (roads, railways, pipelines, etc.). We link the imagery to a moving map display and delivery on DVD, or via a website. So the key concepts are video, film, still digital imagery linked with mapping.

We also create software applications for the engineering and utilities companies to help them manage their assets.

We chose the name Orbital because we wanted something generic which would not tie us into a particular field. The RSK part of the name is simply states that we are part of a larger company called RSK, but any logo should just use the 'Orbital' word.

We are looking for a logo which is suitably modern but also generic. Our business has nothing to do with orbiting; we have seen plenty of logos with orbting lines (similar to Design Outpost's own logo) but would like something different. The design should not in any way resemble our current logo!

We are looking forward to your ideas.

Thought I might try something simple and to the point. Oh, and I hijacked the colors from your website ;) .

Nothing orbiting lines.
It is Satellite dish to monitor (like GIS) and transfer your digtal imagery, film, and video data....

Thanks for all your entries so far. They are all good. I will be seeking the comments from the rest of the team this week but for the moment here are my first thoughts:

bogglins - I like the colours used for the blue with gold star logo, but not so sure about using a star. We are trying to get away from the 'orbiting' theme if possible. The red and blue logo looks nice (although we'd probably choose different colours. We make heavy use of gyro-stabalised camera systems, and these look a bit like large footballs with a hole in attached to helicopters - your red circle reminded us of this. Of your second submission - we liked these better though the colours need to be a little less vivid.

Buginajar - nice, but our current logo fades from shade to shade and thus changes appearance depending on how they are displayed, printed, faxed. We are also trying to get away from the orbiting theme to something more generic/whacky.

shnickerdoodle - Like the colours, but not so sure about the style - perhaps a bit Dan Dare - like. Also orbiting theme we are trying to get awasy from.

Juvanescene - Orbiting theme again with graduating shading which does not reproduce well.

RadicalSEED - I not so sure about using the O or Orbital as part of the logo - yet to see one we like. Using a globe is always tricky as we have a global client based and a globe needs to be centered somewhere which does not always correspond with out clients location.

Mowling - I liked the simplicity of it, but the logo should not be part of the 'O' in orbital. Also any arrows should point upwards if possible.

Jason - I noticed the hijacking of the colours, but we're not so sure about the logo. Also, the colours do not have to match our current colours - in fract probably best not to.

Bill - Nice design but not so sure about this style. Orbiting theme. Colours a little too vivid for my taste.

Samoyloff - Nice and simple, but perhaps not too eye catching. We'd prefer a stand-alone logo - e.g. something which will print on white (or different colour backgrounds) not in it's own colout box like your example on the right hand side.

Eagle - I quite liked this one because it was very different . I'll see what the others say.

Just-G - This one has gone down the best so far. We like the simplicity, the lack of orbiting theme, though the satellite dish idea would distract away from what we do. Something more abstract along those lines would be good.

In general, we are really pleased with the standard so far. The designs can be more abstract and less along the theme of orbiting.

Thanks

Thank you very much form all at Orbital to everyone who submitted logo designs for us to choose from. Needless to say the standard of many of the entries was high and at first we all had our own shortlists.

We whittled the entries down to one we all agreed on over lunch at the pub the other day.

We would like to work with the designer Fabian.

Well done Fabian - looking forward to working with you.

Fabian - Would like a slight variation on your logo as the finished product. We'd like you to change the dot to being over the "i" of Orbital (try ditching the ordinary dot over the i and see how that looks). We would also like this dot to be within the "swoosh / parabola" shape.

If you can send us a few variations on your theme keeping the same text font that would be great.

see attached BMP for the general idea.

No problem,here you go:)

2 and 3 are my personal fav's as there stay with my orginal concept of flying in then flying away with data.

What are your thoughts ?
