Greetings,
My name is Luke, and I own an operate an on-site technology service company, by the name of “Computer Gurus” We target home users, home-based businesses & small businesses with up to 25 computers. Our design must appeal to each of our targets. It must also appeal to both genders.
We want people and small businesses to receive the feeling that our services are affordable, fast & professional.
We want them to feel as if we can take care of all their information technology needs. Would be open to ideas for slogans to include on the design.
Our primary competition will be primarily other "hometown" 1-2 operations. Our city has yet to have a IT support/services firm really stnad out from the crowd.
Please keep the following in mind.
1. Keep the color count to 2 or 3 colors max.2. A clean, memorable, simple, and easily readable from afar.
2. Logo must have a transparent background. For use in print or other uses.
3. The logo will be also be a decal on a silver SCION XA.
4. Open to a vertical business card layout
I look forward to viewing the designs.

Matt - Liked the face & screen elements. Need to steer clear of orange color. I would like to see the name be brought in closer somehow. The circles were a bit mesmerizing for my tastes. I would probably prefer navy, gray, black & white. Thank your effort & contribution.
Taldo - I would prefer not to utilize a letter of the name as the logo. Something a bit more "techie".. liked the simplicity of the design however. As for color choice, please utilize your choice of combinations of navy, gray, black & white. Thanks for your time & submission to the contest.

Julie - Very imaginitive with the power button...could I see one with the power button in "computer LED green"? Also liked the computer design as well, just the orange needs to change.:) Though I like orange a lot, need to not utilize in this particular project. Thanks for your post.

Luke--
Sorry, it's against the designer rules to PM while a contest is on...so I can answer your question here. It's fine for me to use the computer screen/keyboard combo in my entry. Since neither Portage PC nor PC Workshop, the first business I submitted it to, decided to use it, it's still mine to throw out there. I happen to like it so much that I'd like to see it used :)

Julie....no problem...Didn't realize that.. I should read more carefully i guess..sorry. The reason I ask, is I noticed portage was using a variation of the powerbutton design on their website.

Taldo, like the clean look. Like the mouse pointer, is the cirlce representative of something?..not very clear to me. Colors much better :)

Wow, I hadn't noticed that--I'm checking on that question with the other designer. I actually had taken the idea from a design I did last year May. Sometimes similar ideas repeat themselves without us realizing it.

I talked to ElKoocho, the designer behind Portage PC's design. He says my design is significantly different from his--and I agree. It wouldn't pose a problem.

RadicalSEED - Thanks for your submission. I think a mouse element isn't what I'm after. Thanks. I would like to see some type of artwork/graphic that works in the name somehow.

I think I'd like to see a slogan of some sort used in the design, e.g. "support & guidance when you need IT" or "we make IT easy" or something along those lines.
I'm having a hard time deciding if I prefer designs with the graphic to the left like in Taldo's or above in Design General's. and Julie's that incorporated the O in computer.
Julie can you make one more color and font change to the powerbutton design?.. also if the powerbutton cirlce could have straightedges on the lines, not so sharp..with a slogan positioned somewhere.
Taldo, not sold yet on the monitor w/ checkmark. Would like to see another graphic used and a slogan, otherwise.. like what I've seen.

Now I see it. Thanks for the clarification. Very clever. The wife, read it as 9:30 pm, which she felt implied I'm available to work late every night - she objected :D (ha)

A less free-floating concept.

Aaron - like the floating version best. Thanks for your contribution. I can see I'm going to struggle picking a winner :)
It was supposed to be a monitor, but I see how and can be mistaken for a floppy.
I'll work on it some more. :D

A "C" and a "G" , a "computer guru" made from the 3 base geometric shapes... a nice balance there between the sahpes, for sure is a guru

Thank you! There was some excellent entries on this one. :)
If you wish, I'll prepare the logo with and without the tagline.
Do you require any minor changes/modifications to the logo and/or text/tagline?
Let me know :)
Thanks again,
Mark :)

Mark..I would like a few minor revisions. What do you think about having the "screen" be the green versus the blue? Also, I would like to have another tag line. Ever since the band came out, Nirvana strikes up the wrong image for most. Any more thoughts for one? I've been brainstorming, but haven't had any stand out. Also, I really need business cards. Do we start conversing about that in this post or another? Thanks again! Luke

Hi Luke
I'm 'man of few words' (quiet in the back there!) so taglines aren't really my bag! There's no rush to finalise it...if you wish, I'll prepare the 'non-tagline' logo for you to get going with and we can thrash out the tagline in slow time...no rush at all on my part! :)
Regarding the business card, you have two options.
You could:
1. Hire me direct for an additional design fee.
2. Post another project here at DO - that way, again, you'll get the best range of options from different designers. I can make the the logo available for them to use in the design! :)
I'll be honest and say that turnaround for the card (if I do it) may not be as fast as you would like as I'm extremely busy at the moment with (wait for it) no less than 37 currently active clients on my books! So I think that option 2 would the way ahead for you.
Here's the revision with a couple of alternatives! :)

I like the one with a green screen best. I'll keep brainstorming on a slogan. FYI...check out www.interactive-biz.com, notice one of his profiled websites. Small world eh? Good friend of mine.
What do you think would be a reasonable contest amount for a biz card design?
Eagle
08-20-2004, 06:42 AM
Hi Luke
I await your ideas for the slogan. :)
Re the design fee, here are DO's recommended minimums...you'll certainly get more entries if the price is higher - it's all exponential! As far as industry standard pricing is concerned, it's a very competitive rate. :)
Business Card - $65 (logo not included)
