View Full Version : Mission Possible Brochure Cover *Project Over*
(Admin code added by Palmer - SF092252X)
Project: Cover of Annual Conference brochure (11"x17" folded down to 8-1/2" x 11") with front side being brochure cover and backside being self mailer with an area for sponsor logos (I'll add the logos).
Audience: Automotive service facility owners, technicians as well as suppliers to the automotive industry.
Look: This year's theme is Mission Possible. The theme is taken off of the Tom Cruise movie Mission: Impossible. I would like the design to possibly contain "Your mission, should you choose to accept it . . ." I am open to ideas!
Colors: Full color piece with bleeds. Would like to use black/orange/yellow as main colors.
File Info: Final artwork needs to be in Illustrator or EPS so that it can be edited with any last minute changes as well as inserted into the final document that is being designed in InDesign.
Logos: I have attached this year's theme logo. Also need to use the association's logo and event logo.
Website: Their current website is www.visionkc.com to find out more about the event. Last year's brochure is also available online.
NOTE: The website template will be the next project posted on DO at the immediate conclusion of this contest.
Deadline: September 7th (or sooner if the right design is found!).

Just before you posted this, I issued a plea for help in the designers forum for your project. They should start working it soon.
Thanks for your patience :)

Can you use a Photoshop (PSD) file?
I will be pulling the final cover design into InDesign. I would prefer the final design be in Illustrator so that I can edit/move the text if I need to. You can design the photos/background in Photoshop and then pull that into Illustrator to add the text on top of it. In that case, I would like to have the original Photoshop files as well as the Illustrator files.
I hope that answered your question. I'm learning. I know enough to be dangerous!!!!
Thanks!

something to get this project started...
I left space on the back for the sponsor logos. Not too sure how much room you need for that so please advise. Also, do you have the Vision and ASA logos available? The pcitures on the back are just random web grabs so if you have any hi-rez photos of the event, they can obviously be swapped out.

Elkootcho - Great concept. I would have never thought of the "top secret" file. Couple of thoughts: a) can you change the background on the front cover - same color just different design - perhaps flames; b) change "Automobile" to "Automotive"; c) change VISION logo to red/white/blue logo (attached); add dates March 4-6, 2005; and add "Hosted by ASA Missouri / Kansas" and its logo to the front cover.
Backside: I will need a couple of more inches for sponsor logos. Don't worry about including my logo mock-up on the back. The circle concept won't carry over from the website. Once this is done we will be designing a new website (on DO!); can you change the tools/shapes on the back to look more like wrenches? Great submission!

Here are some changes based upon your feedback.

Elkootcho- I like the backside better. Please change "assignment" to "mission". Not sure about the background on the front side. Please remove the wrenches and definitely remove the greasy fingerprints. We are trying to portray professionalism within the automotive service industry. I like the red bar at the top - however, I would like the "Achieving . . " to stay underneath or near the Mission Possible theme. The VISION logo also needs to be larger. I think you are on the right track!
Anyone else planning on submitting a design? Time is running out!!!

another variation

I like this version better!
What program is this designed in? When I receive this file, would I be able to make any text changes? I hate to have you go through and make all of my text changes if I have the ability to do it. I have Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign (all CS versions) and could make changes if I had the fonts and if text wasn't coverted to outlines.

Right now it's all in Photoshop. If chosen, I could easily send whichever format you prefer. InDesign would probably be best. I'm on a Mac so fonts would be in that format. The handwritten font on the cover and the "Your Mission, should you choose..." font are freebies and I could provide you with a download link. As for the rest of the paragraph on the back, you may consider using a font that will match the interior section. Any basic sans serif font will work just fine.

...I've edited the original image to keep the thread width consistent on small monitors :) The origianl file is packed in a ZIP package and attached to the original message.
Nicely done, Kootch :D Too bad I'm busy here.... :smirk: ;)

FYI, due to a unexpected family situation I will be unavailable from September 9 - September 22. I hope this doesn't put a strain on your timeline. If so, just let me know and I'll withdraw from the project. Hopefully this will not be an issue but I wanted to give you fair warning.
I will be able to check in from time to time but will be severly limited in my ability to get much work done during that time. In the meantime, any changes, just let me know and I'll get them posted ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up on your pending absence. Since there have been no other entries and I am quite pleased with what you have designed . . . I am closing this early and declaring you the winner!!!
There are a couple of minor changes and requests before you send the files:
a) change heading at top of front page to read: "March 4-6, 2005 * Kansas City * www.visionkc.com"
b) Change "post-it note" on the folder to read: "The Industry's Top Management & Technical Training and the Midwest's Largest Automotive Service Expo"
c) I would like to be able to resize the "Mission Impossible" logo to use throughout the conference brochure. Could you make sure that it isn't rasterized or at least save it out in an eps format.
d) I would also like to be able to use the "car x-ray" inside the brochure - could you format this file in the same manner please.
AWESOME JOB. I hope you can participate in the website template contest that I am putting up this afternoon!
