Hello to all,

We at Tool Box have a parent company called CertaCorp. CertaCorp is in the middle of re-doing their web site and would like to get a new logo too. So here is the info:

Company name: CertaCorp

Company profile: We are a company that identifies market opportunities and matches products to those opportunities.

Who is the intended audience?: Manufacturing and retail partners who work with us or are thinking about working with us. The average profile of the people we work with is male, age 30-45, conservative but open to good ideas, multi-cultural, upper-middle class.

Our basic idea for the look: Sky’s the limit.

Mood or tone?: Something that conveys confidence and stability but has an innovative edge to it.

Color psychology?: Silver and metallic colors with a green tone to them. Play around a bit. We like darker colors more than lighter ones though.

Deadline: September 15th

CertaCorp is also interested in creating similar logos for their different product divisions: CertaMed, A-Certa, and CertaTec. So the CertaCorp logo should have a theme that can be carried over into the division logos for an underlying consistency.

Please don't feel restricted to the ideas above as they are only a guideline. We understand the artistic process and do not wish to quash it.

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Neil

Thanks for posting!

Jason - It is a good start. We liked the simplicity and the way you split the Certa and Corp into two parts so that we could later plug in other endings like - Med and -Tec and still keep the same theme.

We though it a bit too corporate looking. That is, it could use a little spice in it or look a little more artsy-fartsy. ;)

RadicalSEED - Nice design. Very much like Jason's. I like the way the C is incorporated into the logo. Jason has one too, but this one is a little clearer without being too obvious. Also, like Jason, you have a concept that will be easy to adapt to the other divisions.

Still a little more artsy would be nice to see. Don't get too caught by the customer profile - they are multi-cultural people who are used to different looks. Maybe a different font?

Also, the green could be a bit darker - this green is a little too bright.

So far, the logos are good (but very similar) and we are looking forward to seeing other ideas too. Don't feel too restricted by our profile and initial directions. Keep it coming!

thanks for jumping into the mix Raja!

And thank you for trying something different. Could we see it with some dark green and maybe silver too?

That is a color that I forgot to add everyone - silver. Should have been in the first post. Dark Green & Silver.

Thanks,
Neil

Ok Bill,

It is nice. Again, I like the way you are all separating the parts of CertaCorp. Not sure I like the font or the little "c" in the big "C". I DO like the simplicity of it. Maybe with darker background it would be more pleasing to the eye.

To all: The green still needs to be darker and maybe putting in a metallic look to it would make it better. Just an idea.

I like the way this contest is going, let's keep trying!

:D

hi.. a concept..
initial C-C from CertaCorp, form a C on the left which represents the CertaCorp, and a man on the right which represents the partners who are "connected" or "working" with CertaCorp..
the round shape around is the world... no cultural limit...

...forgot to add... the smaller version of the logo, in black and white at the bottom of my submission, show that the logo still looks good and will not have problem to print on that size.. as well for photocopy, fax, news-ads or economical printing..

Hello to all!

Thank you all for your wonderful and prompt response to our logo request. You have some good ideas and I would like to address the newest posters and give some feedback.

Raja - I like the latest logo, but preferred the old 'C' to the crescent in this logo. Also, a little darker on the green and maybe a different font would be nice to see. Don't know if it would be better, but it would give it another look. Good work!

Bogglins - Very good! I like it and feel that you put a lot of thought into it. I don't know if I like the man in the Cs. Could I see one without his head? Off with his head! I know that takes away some of your concept, but the man looks like he is exercising or something. The rest looks good, but as with many, maybe a darker green would fit better for us. Also, the two 'C' approach might be tough to adapt to our divisions of CertaMed or CertaTec. Or maybe not? What do you think?

Michael - I like that you went after a different look for the font - making "corp" darker than "certa" though I don't know if I like that. However, there is a lot to be said for focusing on the "corp" or "med" or "tec" of the division. I did not like the circle shape of the logo with the interlocking Cs. It looks a little ambiguous to me. Maybe a version with the bold switched to the "certa" and a different design on top.

To all - Many of you have chosen to go with a circular design with the CertaCorp around it somewhere. While this look may be what we eventually go for, it would be nice to see something non-circular. The first 2 posts had non-circular looks (though they did incorporate circles into the design) and they were good. I know that the letter C begs a circlular way of thinking, but could we see something else too?

Also, if you want, you can use silver as the main color and dark green as the secondary. It might make for nice change.

Thanks again to all our designers. It is really going along nicely and we hope that the future posts are as creative as the posts we have seen so far.

Thanks,
Neil

Well we are certainly making headway.

To all - Please continue to revise your designs. We would like the see your current stuff in metallic like RadicalSEED, Raja, and bogglins have done. But, so far, bogglins is the only designer to post revisions. Without revisions, we will have a very one-sided affair.

bogglins - We really liked the latest versions. Not sure if we prefer the taller or shorter ones yet, but will get back to you. Could you please post a version of your first design (the one with the guy and the head) in a metallic look? It might be a good adaptation for one of our divisions so we might use it after all.

Please keep the ideas coming everyone. Revision time is here so please check out the comments and feedback and stay in the game.

Also, there is time left for new blood in this one. Come one, come all!

Deanna - Sorry I have not gotten back to you with feedback. Some things have kept me away from this thread for the last couple of days. I will be posting your feedback soon.

To all - I will also post a list of our favorite ideas to this point so that you call all get an idea of where things stand. That way, we can all focus on the stuff we need to focus on.

Thanks again for all the attention you gave this thread during the week. It was great to see so many wonderful designs.

Hello to all.

We have been very pleased with the response to our contest and have liked many of the designs you have posted. Here is a rundown of our thoughts and some feedback for those who have posted more recently.

Deanna - Liked the first one a lot. Could you try opening up the vertical line in the circle so that the intersecting lines look like a cross (as in a medical cross)? It looks like a nice fit for one of our divisions.

Eagle - We were not too fond of the purple and the green is too light in shade. Could we see a version of the second one with a darker shade of green and a bolder text?

bogglins - Thanks for the extra version. We like your designs and will post more info later.

Fabian - Although your design is pleasing to us, we felt it looked like a child growing and reminded us of a school or education, etc. It just was not the look and feel that we want. We really appreciate the different look though and it is this kind of creativity that often produces a winner. Any other ideas?

To all - Right now, the lead designs are from bogglins and Deanna. I have noticed though that few of you have posted any revisions of your initial designs. It is very conceivable that a revised version of your idea might be what we are looking for. So please, revise and post so that we can truly compare your best work. We appreciate the time you have all taken to post on this thread and hope that asking for one more post from each of you who posted only your first design isn't asking for too much.

Thanks,
Neil

OK, here we go.

So far we have been more than happy with the designs you have all produced. But like every good contest, this one will have to have it's winner. Let's put things into some kind of order so that you can all see where you stand.

In order of date posted, here are the designs we like best:

bill: we like the simplicity of the design but would like to see some of the revisions we suggested. metallic and 3d would be nice to see too. are you still out there?

bogglins: we like the first 4 posts and you are very close to something we would like. i am not sure what feedback to give at this point as you have done very well. we especially liked the third post with the two wave-like Cs and the metallic versions of that one. good work!

deanna: we like your stuff and have decided that the first post is more of what we are looking for. there is still something missing though... maybe a change of font would do something? as i am not a designer, i am not sure how to guide you on this one. try a revision. the design is good but...

raja: we liked the last post you did and the 2nd logo in the group of three was the best of your stuff so far. could you play with the colors a little (see below)?

jason: your last post was good. could we see some metallics there and maybe a 3d version?

to all - you can play around with the colors a little if you want. maybe show us a bronze tone instead of the dark green. the silver is non-negotiable at this point, however-- it must be there.

so, those are the leaders at this point. we will be closing this thing up early next week, so get your designs and revisions up soon.

thanks for your time,

neil

NOW HEAR THIS!

Sorry about the CAPS, but needed to get your attention.

We will be ending this contest tomorrow. Due to some travel plans, we will have to end this contest a day early so I ask that you all give me your final revisions by late today early tomorrow (depending on your location).

Some final thoughts:

Raja - We really like the one latest one you did. The color is nice and the font is different. We notice that there is a crescent shape in the middle of the design. Could you find a way to make that less distinct? Also, could you put the word. "corporation" under the CERTA part?

bogglins - We liked your work to this point. Could you give us something in a bronze or dark brown with silver? One with the head guy and one with the two wave-like Cs?

Jason - we like your last post. Could you make the brown and darker shade?

Deanna - Nice to see you threw in some extra stuff. It still is not quite what we are looking for, but we did like the brownish-red colors you used. They are right up our alley.

To all - one last shot to get into this. Gotta end it tomorrow at around 12pm EDT, so get your idea out there.

Thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil,

Do you have any feedback regarding my entry?

Thanks :)

Raja
09-15-2004, 02:32 PM
not sure what you mean about making the crescent in the negative space less, distinct. Also, which font are you refering to ? Last, or second last entry (the one that just says "CERTA")?

Here's a revision :)

a-ToolBox
09-17-2004, 03:20 PM
Design General - Although I like the colors, I felt the two crescents on the C looked like a guy wearing a funny hat. Sorry I didn't give any feedback, but I guess it's better late than never.

Raja - The crescent I mentioned maybe could be made less distinct by curving the tips of it by filling in a little positive space? The one with CERTA under it was the one we liked best of your work. Maybe a different font as some of my people have told me they think it looks too sci-fi. I liked it, but I have to think about my audience too. : )

As I said, any revisions you guys want to post are welcome, but we will be making our decision soon and I should have the winner by Monday AM.

Talk to you soon,

Thank you everyone for posting such great stuff. I know it sounds cliche to say, but it has been difficult for us to choose with so many wonderful things posted.

Having said that, we have narrowed it down to 2 - Raja and Jason.

Raja - We like the one you posted just above the biz card you did. Good work!

Jason - Before we choose, we would like to see a 3D version of your last design. Raja posted one and we would like to compare apples to apples.

Your two designs are excellent and we are having trouble making a decision. Hopefully, after Jason posts a 3D version, we will be able to finally choose one.

Thanks to all for your hard work and for surpassing our hopes in this contest.

Hi Design General - although we have already narrowed it down to 2, I thought I would at least give you some feedback on your recent posts.

I like it much better to the side and I like the biz card stuff too- though the one without the maroon crescent looks like a square with a bite taken out of it too me : ).

Your stuff is good. Keep up the good work and maybe we can do some work together in the future.

Ok - we have made a decision.

Raja is the winner.

We liked the "cut from metal" look of the icon, and the font won us over too.

Jason - your last design was close, but still lacked something-- if I knew what it was, I would tell you. I believe that your logo would be a great design for someone else, but we were looking for something different. Thanks for your participation and quick turnarounds.

Raja - let's talk about some little modifications we need, OK?

Hi Raja,

Just thought you might like a written version of the reivisions we would like before getting our new logo.

1. Could you put, under the word, "CERTA," the word, "corporation," in the same font as the business card? We would like the font to not be bold however, as it should not overshadow the, "CERTA."

2. Could you ready some ideas for CertaMed and CertaTec? We can discuss these in more detail later but we will need to move on them pretty fast. If you prefer we can discuss this one on MSN and through e-mail as it might be faster and better for DO.

Thanks and congratulations!
Neil
