DFA,

Here's my entry for the contest. Sorry for being late. In the HTML version of this site, I envision the main navigation to use mouse rollovers that change their background colour slightly, and possibly making the big "TRADING", "SALES" & "DELIVERY" buttons do the same.

1. exteriormotive.

Thanks for your entry. The speed was impressive.....

Comments on the template are:

- Can you make the template less red? There is red and black in the logo, but I think to have the whole site in those colours may be a bit too much. More neutral colours might be better, or a lighter shade of red.

- Whilst we do deliver the goods, it is only one aspect of the business. The truck tends to give the impression that we are more of a FEDEX type company, which is not quiet right. More of a weighted approach to the 3 strands of the business (trading, sales, delivery) might be better.

- The first of the smaller pictures is fine, but the other two are not really what we're looking for. Perhaps something more relating to people on phones (i.e doing business) and people trading (stock market type picture) would be better...

For more info on our line of business check out the 'companies in our sector' piece in the original brief- this should hopefully steer you in the right direction.

Hope this is clear. Always difficult to convey requirements over e-mail ;)

2. Victoria

Thanks for your entry :D

- Like the pictures. They fit quiet well with our line of business. The handshake is a bit generic, so perhaps something more related to trading instead of this one?

- Colours are OK, but in accordance with the logo. Not sure if this is what we want. I think we are looking for something other than red/black for the site (apart from the logo). Not being a designer I'm sure this probably flies in the face of convention, but what about lighter shades of red/greys etc?

- There is a lot of space for words. Not sure if we need that much. Would prefer pictures on the side or at the top, as a) at the bottom they could be missed B) The amount of words could put new visitors off....

Hope this is clear!

3. Geof

Thanks for your entry. No worries about being late, the competition will run until the 14th May... :D

- We like this a lot

- Comments are:

1. The picture of the women talking and the man at the airport aren't quiet right. What about replacing them with a picture of people meeting round a desk (corporate type image) and if possible a trader in action on a trading floor?

2. Not so sure about the brown. Could you try changing the colour to the same you've used for SALES/TRADING/DELIVERY?

3. Like the clever use of red, subtle and not too in your face

4. Global map is good. I'm assuming we could have roll over functionality for each region (e.g Americas, Europe, Africa, Australasia) which could then link to a generic overview type page for each location?

5. Like the idea of adding different roll over colours to the menu bar and also your ideas regarding making the sales/trading/delivery buttons stand out

Look forward to the revisions!

DFA,

Thanks for the feedback. Here are 2 versions of my template, the first being a typical homepage, and then second with rollovers for the navbar, box links (TRADING, SALES) and map. I changed the photos as well. I should have looked a bit closer the first time, because I thought the guy at the airport was actually in front of a board at the TSX :) Hey, I'm a Canadian, so...

I switched out the brown for a lighter grey. I tried it with the dark grey of the box links, but thought it too similar. I had the brown in there initially to introduce another strong 3rd colour; just to mix things up a bit. But the light grey looks pretty good after all.

Yes, I intended for the map to act as links to specific pages with information about what you import/export to. For instance, highlight the Americas portion, and you get taken to a page where it describes what comes from here, and what goes here, and then that list links down to individual products. Just an idea.

Thanks for the amendments. This is now looking pretty good. The only minor comment from this end is that the picture of the ship could be replaced with a truck/lorry. If you get the time to try another picture plse do, but if not that's fine too!

This is now looking better. If you get a moment could you change the order of the pictures around, so that the truck is in the middle and the boxes on the bottom.

Not so sure about the banner words on the bottom right, but this is minor and can be changed.

Thanks

Like the template. Could you make the following amendments:

1. Remove the $ as this implies that we are trading currencies etc
2. Size the logo so that it sits flush with the SALES/TRADING/DELIVERY banner

Thanks!

Howdy!

Long time reader. First time submitter. :)

Here's my shot at your template. I tried to stay away from the techy look since it didn't seem too appropriate for your site. My template is less graphic-intensive and built to contain more content. I think it's important for your site to load quickly, since on my 56k, some of the sites you listed took too long to load for me and I started twitching in my chair.

So please, please, let me know if this is what you're looking for or if I should chop off my right hand now. Without further adieu....

<img src='http://www.mynics.net/haywood/haywood_v1.jpg[/img]

By the way, I know I was JUST ranting about loading times, and realized that my above sample will take a good while to load since it's one large image. Thought I'd warn you first and give you ample time to brew some coffee, make a sandwich, and mow the lawn.

I have cut the most recent design (into pseudo HTML) I did, out of curiosity on my own behalf to see what it might look like actually working.

This has been fun (the most recent design) even if I don't win.

Losing would mean I am in the process....lost would be more along the lines of the stage of transition, which I am in.

:winkiss:

Note: The black area that the slogan is in ("we make sure the product is delivered"), the concept is to have that change on reload; IE everytime someone reloads the page it sequences through a set of sayings or perhap client quotes?

Another Note: Everything I have mousing over does not necessarily have to do that...some functionally would need to be...others I just thought looked cool.
