Business card, letterhead and a company logo prize $200

I want to add this project is for a friend of mine, so I have posted it for him? I am also hoping I have not posted it twice as I was having complications with my computer connection yesterday!

Anyhow to the design, he is after a design that will be professional, stylish, individual design. Spain is a hot country, with blue skies so these colours may be good to use in the design. The company sell real estate in Spain so maybe you could incorporate a hacienda or Villa etc in the design.
Colours to be used:

Turquoise
Reds
Yellows
Greens

We will have to see how they look when mixed together? also can the tagline of either:
'the one to one touch'
or
'the personal touch'

I have found some spanish real estate websites you may take some ideas from there logo's I hope it help's? but I will search more this weekend to find ideas for this logo?

www.spanishpropertyworld.com
www.zest-properties.com
www.goldensandsdevelopments.com
www.aquariusproperties.com
www.espvillas.com
www.findahomeinspain.com

these logos we really like;
www.fuenplaza.com http://www.spainpropertyfinders.com/

The competition will run untill we find that design that makes us say " wow! thats the one" but 3 weeks should be enough time for everyone that enters? I am sure all that enter will give us great designs.

Good luck to everyone that enters

Andy66

Good luck

Hi, Andy :)

This project is for BC, LH and the logo, it would be good to put this information in the Project's title. Do you want me to correct the title?

Another question: what is the exact company name?

Thanks ;)

andy66
09-16-2004, 08:24 AM
Alex,

The name for the company is SelectSpanishHomes S.L and is based in Spain. There will also be a website www.selectspanishhomes.com.

And Alex please include the letterhead and BC in the title I did not know how to do it! This new site takes some getting used to but the presentation of the site is a lot better!

thanks

Alex:
Liked your design and thanks for getting the ball rolling! Liked your design very original did not like the font style look better a bit more bold, also can you add 'SL' in smaller font underneath the 's' in homes in the logo. Could you try showing the 'sun' in the drawing.

Doug: thanks for joining the competition I did like the picture design but we would like something more original. I liked how Alex had sketched his design I know you cannot copy Alex's design but maybe you could come up with something along those lines. Also the font styles did not look right either maybe you could try some different styles? Also as I asked Alex can you show the 'SL' underneath the 'S' in homes in much smaller font?

Thank you both!

PS: I hope others will enter too make Doug and Alex work hard for the prize money! (only joking guys!)

thanks all

I found these websites of paintings of spanish properties I was hoping if someone could come up with something similar in the design. Take a look and see what you all can come up with?
http://www.aggyboshoff.com/aggypaintings_spain.htm
http://www.antoniamyatt.com/spanish_paintings.htm#A

I want a house painted in the design on the same lines as Alex using these colours Spanish houses are painted white, some with blue shtters, some have red/yellow. I am just trying to give you ideas of colour schemes you can experiment with? Also please show a blue sky in the background, I hope you can all come up with something?

thanks

Can you look at the logos for:

La torre
Hacienda Requelme
mar menor

could you design something similar and try and keep the same font styles but showing a hacienda or villa or spanish style townhouse? And make it look like sketch using similar colours or a water painting or something if possible?

thanks andy66

Paula,

I have attached a photo of a 'windmill' which is typically spanish and seen alot in the region where the owner of Select Spanish Homes sells his properties. I would like you to use the colours that are in the La Torre Logo if you can. Also I would like you to make it look like a water clour painting if that is possible? Try and keep the windmill itself white if you can too, I look forward to see the results.

Alex:

I liked your latest entries but the colours do not work for us, so can you change the colours to the following?
The roof: deep red
the sky: more filled in light blue
the sun: yellow
the ground: lime and lemon
The wordng try gray 80%
font styles: calisto MT BOLD, Eurostar Regular ext, Peinaud, Papyrus

Keep the villa style just like to see different colours and font styles and can sketch more of a sky background also Alex in the font can you show 'SL' in the name. 'Select Spanish Homes SL'

Paula:
The first drawing with the villa works better for the owner of Selectspanish homes, I just wanted to try something different. What he would like to see in the villa style is better colours, can you try the same colours I have asked Alex to use but keep the villa white? Also can you make the Villa abstract like an artists painting? Also use the same font styles I have asked Alex to use and show the SL in capitals after 'Homes'

Can you also do the same with the Villa attached?

thanks again

Thanks for the feedback. So he would like to see the design in my first entry, and the attached villa.bmp, in the colors you suggested and in a more abstract style, or like the "watercolor" style I used for the Windmill. Let me know, and I'll get started on some revisions/new designs. Thanks Much, Paula

Paula,
Can you try abstract for one design and watercolour for another design? if that is possible just to see different variations. He wants something original that no one else has a design people can recognise and that stands out?

thanks

Andy, I have a question for you:
do you plan to use this logo on Web only or do you think you'll be printing it on stationary etc? If former - there's no problem in making it any color you like, but if you're going to print it at some point, I'd really suggest you check the number of colors you'll be needing.

My last entry was 3 plain colors, no gradients, but if you want more colors - I'll have to make it CMYK and that will be another thing (at least, when it comes to printing/silkscreening etc). Also, it's a good idea to check how your logo works in black-n-white and grayscale versions (though there's no need in it if it's Web only).

Cheers ;)

andy66
09-23-2004, 11:58 AM
Alex answer to your question, we will be using the design on a website, letterheads, business cards, maybe Tshirts for the reps in Spain, advertisments everything really. But the owner did not like the colours you were using, so I thought more mediteranean colours would make the design more appealing. You can still use 3 colours if you want to just different shades. Use light blue for the sky, yellow for the sun, outline for the villa 60% gray, lime green for the ground. The wording in Black, ok that is five colours but it may give the design a different outlook that you have created. It is hard to bounce ideas from different designs only three of you have submitted designs. We were hoping more designers would join the competition. But not to worry we are grateful to you three for considering this competition to enter your skills. So please keep with the competition we are running out of ideas to throw at you, I am thinking of not using a villa design at all, and using something totally different. Like this design I have attached for you give it a go see what you can come up with but do not use circles try squares or other shapes.

Paula23

Hi Andy,
Any feedback for my recent designs? Is ther anything else you would like me to attempt.
Thanks,Paula

andy66
09-23-2004, 12:41 PM
Hi Paula, thanks for sticking with us we are grateful to you, anyhow your designs, I liked the first 2 the large design did not work for me. But the villas do not look right to me the colours do but the villa designs do not. And I can see you have tried your best with the instructions I have given you. But please do not give up only 3 of you have entered we cannot afford to lose any of you! So this is what I would like to see, keep the square, and the base colours light blue, yellow, lime.

Draw squares in side the square like blocks.

Then put the colours in, I can see it in my mind trying to explain it! this is hard. I am hoping you have some kind of idea what I mean and experiment.

Try to make the square blocks uneven like a large square small square and keep all these blocks inside a square.

The font I like but keep it upper case and lower case, like Select Spanish Homes SL and keep it on one line.

Sorry to have messed you about with the villas but we had to see how they looked. But if this idea does not work I do not know what to suggest next for you?

thanks so much Paula

Hi, Andy :) Thanks for the promt reply.
My main concern about the number of colors is the printing price, but if the client is ready to pay CMYK printing (or 4 colrs prsilkscreening) - there's no problem with doing the corresponding design :)

I've been playing with the fonts you mentioned but none of them made me feel Spanish enough (if it makes any sense) :) So I made a hand-drawn text just to match what I was trying to express.

The overall design is CMYK (or 4 plain colors for silkscreen). It can be adapted for B&W output and works both in vertical and horizontal combinations (as shown).

Cheers ;)

Doug

It looks better distressed but I would like to see it look a bit more faded look more older? Also instead of a square lined finish can you just blend it in to page? So its looks like the edges are frayed like a painting that has worn away?

Like it looks more individual now its distressed and faded looking.

Alex

Liked your the colours in your latest entry, looks better but the jury is out on you font style. Does not work for me but I will wait for the owner to view it tomorrow and see what he thinks. Post a reply again tomorrow.

Alex: I liked your design but not the writing sorry, but at present the owner has gone away for a week and will be back next weekend, so I cannot ask him if he likes it or not so you may have to wait till next week.

Doug: I liked the distressed look but as I have said to Alex you may have to wait for the verdicts of what the owner likes or dislikes, I post next week.

Paula: Liked both your new entries not the distressed looking one it doesn't work. The only change I can add is put a black border around the edges and between the squares of the arched design. Leave the square design just change the colours of the one shade of green to burgandy red or crimson red keep the lime green colour and the other shades you have used.

Fabien: Thanks for joining its nice to see a different direction, the door idea is different but I think needs more work! But it gave me an idea for a tagline: ' we open doors to new life' I would like to see it attched to a spanish styled town house I have attached some photos of paintings see what you think? It may give you an idea to work with.

Again I will post comments on everyones designs next week I have to speak to the owner what he likes and dislikes. So thanks for being patient.

Andy

Thanks for your feedback, one thing i would like to point out is that the more detailed a picture logo is, the more it starts to look like clip art ( cheap and nasty ready made art ).........which is bad.

But if thats what you want.........your the boss:D

Please let me know your throughts.

Cheers

andy66

Fabien: I showed you the paintings because I want a sketch or something similar. Use a crayon or pencil to get the affect but just of a front of a building show some windows if you want and show the door open if you can. Use gray for the sketch on a white canvas see how it works? Hope this explains what I am after better?

look forward to the end result?

Andy, sorry, we aren't allowed to communicate personally. I'll put your PM here:

Alex: I am wandering if you could try something for me, I like your design but it does not work for the owner but I like because its original. I was wandering if you could do this which I looked at the other day and thought it was simple but original!

Make the background 80%

then the picture sketch change the colour to orange just keep it 2 colours. Change the Font style too Book Antigua or something similar modern or classic.

I'll try the corrections, Andy. Please, don't contact designers in private during your Projects. Thanks :)

Thanks Alex and Design General I will take your advice:

I have tried some ideas and you have all been so patient with my ideas but the owner/client and me just think the competition needs more ideas. The work so far received has been fantastic but we cannot find nothing that grabs us. So I have looked in the gallery and found some great designs and I will ask these designers if they would like to join. I know the name is long and it maybe hard to work it in the design of the logo. But try keeping 'Select' as the main name and fitting 'spanish homes SL' somewhere else in the design. I know I have asked for a villa or hacienda design but nearly every website or home seller in Spain has a similar design. Me and the owner want something original and something that will become a trademark for the company.

I have seen some designs in the gallery and there is a lot of variety in here so it may give evryone that enters different ideas, take a look and see what ideas you get?

Eagles: Real Values
Eagles: Bathworx
Visual Sense: williamdeanhomes
Mark Beaudry: Find a fireplace
Tonya: Detroit networks
Muvment: zip stitch (love the font and design)

I would like to see the colours change too, I am thinking shades of grey backgrounds and orange or black backgrounds and orange or a lime green its upto you?

Like how the home is inside the sun
and I have attached a logo for spain may give everone ideas

I hope this will be ok and good luck again

Design General:
thank you so much for entering I am so glad to see more of you enter it will keep this project interesting. The design looks great and I do like the colours you have used very spanish. But the house or font style does not work properly sorry. Try keeping the font style more professional not freestyle and make the Select more outstanding (bolder) in the design, look at the font styles from the designers i have chosen from the gallery? Also please do not use the house or home its not working in the design. I would rather see if you can use a shape of the sun or something like that, or the sea, or a landscape anything like that. No one really has tried that it might work better.

Tonya:

We liked your design thanks again, but I was wandering if you could change it to this;
Dark gray background
The building design in lighter grays and orange
The 'Select' in orange
the rest of the letters in light gray do you think this could work play with it and see what develops? Might look awful but just would like to see these colours being used more in the designs I think they look great together.

But he agrees with me you are very talented and we would really like you to stay in the contest and try something different? So can you try looking at these designs and see what develops?
steel_horse.jpg (eagles design) change the horse to a bull
http://www.designoutpost.com/gallery/showpic.php?pid=168&aid=47&uuid=38

I know eziey has used it earlier in his design and I am not sure if it is against the rules to use objects that other designers have used but we like the use of the bull. See if you can use it somehow in your design try grays and other colours? Try and keep it to 2 or 3 colours if you can.

I had to change the arrangement (and made the house more abbreviated) to make it work okay with a box layout. If I'd left the house up top, there would have been a lot of dark grey dead space in the upper left. But I actually think I like this layout better. What do you think?

That's nice of you Eziey. I think you got the Bull down perfectly.I know perfection when I see it!:)

andy66
10-02-2004, 03:53 PM
Paula:
If you feel you do not want to use the bull and use a stallion or horse, can you use a piqador on horseback thats what I think they are called? someone may know the correct name. Try that, it may work well?

Eziey:
I liked your changes much better, but the bull still looks like a pointed eared doberman (this is not a critism just what it looks like at first glance) I do like the use of the bull it works well in the design but see if you can use the bull in the website i showed you. That style of bull is everywhere in spain and people can relate more to that style as its seen everywhere?

Tonya:
I can see the changes and they look good but the dark gray does not seem to work as a background, change the lighter shades of gray in the letters to the dark gray go back to a plain white background. You may be able to try the design from your second entry i liked that design but the colours did not work. I also like this style too so it would be nice to see both styles.

Design General:
The sun works and looks good but the font does not, try a different font and take the itallic off, Make the 'select' much larger and see if you could use the 'Sun' as a background with the wording at the fore front. Use a black or dark gray background and keep the sun 'orange' and the letters a lighter gray in 'Select' and 'white' in the other words see if that works. I know Tonya has already used the colours but in your design it may work, in Tonya's design these colours did not work in this format!in your design it might.

To everyone,

Paula: Can you make the man on a horse look more like a silhouette in black. Also the client wants evryone to use these colours Red, Yellow and Black. Also add the tagline 'The personal touch'

Eziey: change the bull to black and use Red and Yellow in the rest of the design also add the tagline 'The personal touch'

Tonya: can you change your colours to Red yellow and Black also add the tagline 'The Personal Touch'

Adrian: can you do the same as the others? use in your design the colours Red, yellow and Black and add the tagline 'The Personal Touch'

Also I forgot to add can everyone also add 'SL' after Spanish Homes and all draw there logo on a cream card like Adrian has done in his designs or even better as this contest is for a business card and Letterhead also, show us your designs on business cards but use cream background business cards.

thanks everyone we will have winner soon I feel? The owner likes all the designs now but just wants to see these changes before he decides on a winner!

I wasn't satisfied with the house, so I fiddled around with it some more. Hope you like it.

Thankyou everyone for entering this contest and the designs again were at a very high standard. I have spoken to the Client who owns Select Spanish Homes and he has decided a winner!

The winner is Eziey! thanks so much he loves your design but he would like a couple of changes only minor though. Can we do that by email or in a private forum? If you tell me or can I PM you? please advise.

thanks again everyone for entering

Congrats, Eziey! Great design ;)

Andy, now you can communicate with the winner through whatever thing you like :) I'll move the thread to the Revisions forum where you can continue in private, if you want. The only thing you have to do is to post in this thread when you've received the files. :)

Congrats on your the logo, it's VERY good! ;)

Let me show the client tomorrow and then I will tell you tomorrow evening if that is ok. I like the top one better but I like the layout oF the wording of the second one on B/C and L/H. But I will see what he says and tell you tomorrow.

Eziey:

This last design the owner likes all he wants you to do is put the Bull faded in the background on the letterhead like you have done on the previous letterhead designs.

Then I think its finished.
