View Full Version : Engine911.com logo - Quick Comp
Hi guys, (Admin code added by Palmer - T695484B)
I am working on a web site design and I am supposed to include a logo and well I am a web designer, not a logo designer.
I am sorry but I can only afford $60 for the logo - I would like to have paid more. :)
I need something cool. Something that will stand out from the page. I think he likes 3D designs.
He likes the logo at this site www.engine54.com (http://www.engine54.com)
He is after something that can be created into a theme throughout the site like the gear in this logo has been used.
This contest does not have a deadline. I needed the logo yesterday. :(
I am here many times throughout the day, so will make comments on any entries.
When I see a design that I think I would like to use I will give a warning to all designers that the competition will close the following day. So it is possible this contest will close in 2 days (if I am lucky) lol
I am sorry to hurry you guys but if you saw what I was trying to design you would totally understand why I have rushed to the professionals here. :notworthy:
Thank you for your help in advance... Good Luck!
:notworthy:
Also... logo does not need to be used for printing.
I would like the logo in PNG format with a transparent background so that I can easily add it to the design. If you design the logo in Photoshop, please provide unflattened file AND I would appreciate being able to resize the logo (most likely smaller) without losing too much clarity.
Because I will be designing the site AROUND the logo I do not know the exact dimension of what I will need the logo in.

I made these 2 versions, let me know what you think
thanks for the fast response guys...
j-design - could you try turning the circles into spheres, and try light blue, grey tones. I would also like to see a bolder font.
martincrumlish - I like the first design - is the 911 the same font as engine? I like the font you have used for engine but I feel the 911 is a little uneven - maybe a bulkier font would look good? I like the colours used.

Hi Demex,
It was a different font but I have now changed it to the same font as engine.
Any more feedback?

It is for a search engine site

Any comments on the entries? Mike's going to win isn't he?
Ok here are my comments...
Martin - I don't like the font for the 911 - it looks more like a back to front E and I am asuming that was why you didn't use it in the first place. Could you try a bolder font than the first entry and make the 911 text a litle bigger than the engine text?
j-design - the colours you have used seem more of a purple than blue and the circles are still flat circles not spheres. I like the positioning of the circles but would like them to be spheres and not stretched. Try #91BADB and #D5E4F0.
Palmer 1 - The tire is not the type of style that I am after. Also the red and black does not appeal to me. I am leaning towards a site that will use similar colours I posted for j-design.
Palmer 2 - Again the red and black issues. The symbol is interesting. Maybe you could add a shaddow to the ground (not a drop down shaddow) to help lift it from the page. Also try some different colours.
Mike - Well I was blown away when I saw your entry - I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. No further comments.
Please note: When I have some entries I would like to use I will be showing the client. His decision will be the final one. :)

Closer?
Hi martin and j-design - those revisions are good - no need to make any further changes on those. If you feel you would like to try something - please go ahead.
Are there any other designers interested in this comp? I know you guys are all so busy though. :)

The name makes me think (obviously) of firefighters, paramedics, emergency, hospitals so my design reflects that type of urgency.

Makes me think of choo choo trains. Too bad I can't draw one :)
I looked around the boards here to see if I could find any logos that could help show you the direction I would like to go in...
Some are from older comps but I think one is from a current comp - so I am in now way asking you to copy these exact. Just wanted to show a direction.
Please think along the lines of a search engine when designing the logo. My first thought of Engine911 was the same as ElKootcho but I would prefer to steer clear of this..
thanks

Playing with matches! :furious:
Thanks for the latest entries...
Palmer, that is looking good. If it is chosen there may be a couple of changes requested.
ElKootcho, I like the fire idea. Could you try a bold font, all lowercase engine and make the 911 stand out a little more? I like the silver appearance of the engine as well but don't really like the red oval behind the 911... any other ideas for that?
How about these ones?
-Ruairi
Ruairi - I like the gears... :)
Could you flip them horizontally, then have the engine all in lowercase with a bold font and no spaces between the characters with the 'e' placed over the gears. Could you see if you could make the engine 3D in some way or stand out from the screen. Havee the 911 in a different colour to engine and larger.
Thanks for your input!
Hi Ruairi,
Sorry but I feel it is a little hard to read and brown is a little dull with the blue. I love the blue colours used on the gears. Did the idea I suggest not look any good? Could you use a dark blue on the engine and try arial black for engine?
Thank you for your time. :)

LOL, that brown is really ugly :) I'll change it and make the suggested changes.
See you later.

Designers Please note
I have been thinking more about the design since you have provided me with some of your ideas and I want to try and give you some ideas of what I really like...
1. some sort of 3D symbol
2. Blue colours or a colour that will go nicely with a blue based website
3. the text doesn't necessarily need to be 3D but I would like it to be lifted from the page and not flat but not beveled. Use shadows or outlines but don't blur the shadow.
the design should not be:
too cartoony or too corporate
but... an in-between if there is such a thing
I like the following type of symbols...
spheres, gears, squares, something abstract even
I know this is a hard name to design for as I had the same problems myself but if you try to remember it is for a search engine site similar to two sites a I have designed... www.gozinta.com and www.lookthru.com it may help you a little... :)
Again I thank you for putting up with me... It is always harder designing for a fellow designer.
You can punch me at any time! I am ready for ya! :flex: he he he

You contest holders can be sooo difficult at times :D (just kidding)

Rox...
I like the idea of the 3D 'e'...
Could you try something for me?
The logo I posted that you had done for a previous comp on page 2 of this thread...
Could you do something similar but flip it horizontally and place the 911 in the circle. Have the 3D 'e' overlap the beginning of the box and somehow incorporate 'ngine'. This could look really bad so I am hoping you can get an idea of what I am thinking and make it look good. lol
I like both 3D e's, the first because it is weird and the second because it looks like an e... lol

Here's one with big, fat font and no oval (I kinda liked it, reminded me of an Atomic Fireball I got as a kid  )
I have shown the logos to the client and so far he has commented on Elkootcho's fire logo.
Elkootcho: Could you try the following?
"is there anyway to get the letters that say engine in the flames look like flames like the way they move?"
If you can understand that then you are a better person than I? :)

hmmm....I'm not sure I'm following :bash: You want "engines" to look like it's on fire too? Which flame are you looking at, the second with chuncky type?

Or like the type is moving with the fireball? Kinda like you'd draw a baseball as sort of an oval to show that it's moving super fast? Yeah, I think that may be it.
I have asked for them to explain what they are after. Still waiting for a response.
ok guys...
I will be announcing the winner tomorrow my time. If you have been working on anything, please submit it before then.
Thanks everyone

A slight tweak. Italicized the text to give it more vrooom.
Thank you EVERYONE for helping me out!
You all did well and if it was up to me I would have chosen a couple of winners as I could not decide!
But it isn't up to me and I have a winner!

Congratulations! Your 2nd fire logo won them over!
I will PM you when I know more details and if there are any changes required.
