(Admin code added by Palmer - 054973P)
We are looking for a new logo/identity for our church. We are a reconciling and welcoming congregation which welcomes and affirms all people regardless of race, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, physical ability, mental ability, socioeconomic class, or educational class.
In the future, we also might be interested in a new template, but right now a new logo is top priority! :help:
Visit our website: trinitykc.org (http://www.trinitykc.org) - With our current template we are restricted on height, but width (as you can see from the current site/logo) can be larger. Using the rainbow is not necessary, but it would be nice to have an optional logo variation, using the "gay" rainbow if possible.
Trinity United Methodist Church is the name of the church.
The logo will be used on business cards, letterheads, web site, newsletter, and newspaper ads.
The logo should be fairly simple and easy to read. Probably no more than (3-4?) colors at most.
The deadline for this contest is May 10th or sooner (if possible).
We are offering $125 for this. I am Thom the Communications/Advertising Director for Trinity. Garrett (the webmaster) and myself will review and comment on the work posted here. I've seen some EXCELLENT work in the forums here, and look forward to what you can do for us!
Thank you!

Hi Thom, I'm assuming this is the same request you posted in the Charity Cases forum so I'll close that one.
Thanks for the contest, and welcome to Design Outpost. :)

Designers, if you need the UMC cross for your logo, here's the psd file...

If you DO use the UMC cross in the design, I believe the color of the flame is supposed to remain RED. :)

Rut roh (http://www.camplakestephens.com) I hope they don't want me to change it. :D
I found the following link and it doesn't mention anything about if you can change the color or not...
http://www.gcfa.org/Internetuse.html
Maybe you could contact them and find out for the Design Team? :)

Thanks Palmer, I'll find out about that this morning!
I just talked to the National office for UMC... they said that they encourage UM Churches to keep the red, but, as long as it is tastefully done...other colors are acceptable.
I've left a message for our Pastor to see what her thoughts are.
If anyone wants to start on some ideas, I will post the "final answer" on this asap.

Hey Everyone,
I just clarified this with our Pastor, we will need to stay true to the RED flame with the UMC cross. Garrett mentioned, it would have been ideal to give the Design Team more creative freedom and not limit the color on the flame, but next to the "big guy" the Pastor runs the show!
-Thanks-

Hello? <<echo>> Is anyone working on this currently? We'd really like to have some ideas by the end of the week if possible.
Thanks!

Here are 2 versions I have been working on. These can be resized to fit the site, I have made them medium sized so you can get a better idea of what they look like :)

I would say the rainbows aren't as crucial in the design. Because we'll be posting this in several newspapers. Thom, what are your thoughts? I guess we could always remove the rainbow for the newspaper ads, because it wouldn't look like much in b&w.

Well, that's what I was thinking to have an OPTION for the rainbow somehow. (for when we do print advertising and colour is either not available to us or it is too expensive.)
I guess I'm thinking of easy to read lettering with a contemporary look or feel. Dignified, but here for the changing times/future. I don't know how that would look, or if it's right for us, but that would be interesting.
Trinity has a traditional type of worship style, with a lot of diversity in our congregation.
Martincrumlish... thanks for what you put out there. It looks too much like our present logos though. I do like the rainbow colours off to the side on one of the logos. :)

Here's a new version....
Comments welcomed.

the two version for these two concepts show the triangle with and without the rainbow - this is how it might reproduce in a limited printing environment.
at this point i am leaning toward the more conservative feel, since most churches tend to do so, however, this church may want to show a little more zip, but, i am starting here first

Whoa, sorry I'm late!
I've got everyone's input...
My Pastor did say, "Overall, there is some good thinking going on. Has anyone tried anything
with the imagery of a dove descending from heaven? It's a Holy Spirit type of image.
I guess we really want to get away from using the rainbow colors throughout the logo. Huhhso did one in another contest, that had the 6 colors in circles off to the side. That would be cool to see (or something like it), where we could use it on our webpage (where there's more room) but not necessarily in print media all the time due to extra cost.
ElKootcho: You do some great work, but that one is not what we're looking for.
wwwzone:  Like the arms clasping at the bottom logo, it really reflects us well. Triangle ok, better upside down. The main emphasis though in your type, should be on TRINITY (red color) and not with UNITED also, that should be the same color with United Methodist Church. Thought it was a nice touch with the web address included. We'd like to see some different fonts, one being from the top logo that you did in that group and different font colors too. We might look at incorporating the "gay rainbow" colors when we narrow it down more.
pram: too much like our current style
CarolinaMan: Nice job, but not at all what we're searching for. Thanks for the effort!
Huhhso: very creative! But, too much color for us.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work! It seems like wwwzone has the best entry so far. We like the visual logo with the hands together, it sends a great message about our Church.
I hope the feedback that I am giving is what you need. This is my first time doing this, so if there's anything else I should provide to make your job easier, just let me know!
Thanks,
Thom

:o Bad weather heading to Kansas City tonight... with a recent history of tornados hitting the area last weekend, we're all a little on edge this evening.
Thanks ondarox for your entry. I kinda like it. Nice balance, dove looks good.
www.zone, you're on the right track. Have other options to consider...
Can't get a hold of my contacts right now, but I will follow up with y'all tomorrow for sure. Thanks for all the great entries and effort. :)
Thom
One question: is 74 px the maximum height for the logo or can I try other sizes? This kind of limits me.
Thanks.

Good question.
I know we're limited in vertical height right now, because of the template we're using. This is best answered by our Webmaster, Garrett. He should be responding on that, when he sees our posts.
Along with the red/black in the UMC cross logo, I got the other color we'd like to use either for the other part of the logos (text, design). This is from our printing company, it's called "PMS-322" - It looks like the color teal. I hope that's what would be needed to get the right color.
We realized, that even though all the multi-colored logos were beautifully done, it's just not possible to use them in our logo 24/7. So, maybe a upside down triangle off to the right of the Logo, with the "gay rainbow" colors (there 6 in a specific order), might be a good way to symbolize our inclusiveness.
I'm going to be ending our contest in 26 hours, at 5:00 p.m. Saturday Central Daylight Time.
Thanks for all the excellent entries thus far!
Here is the "hands" logo with PMS-322 and red (25c 84m 99y 0k).
Let me know what you think.

:bang: I made a BIG mistake! :bash:
My appologies to all, for sending a PM to Ruairi regarding his entries in our contest...should've kept it in the forum!
I think you know Ruairi, that we like your design best right now. The hands logo is so unique and so... Trinity UMC! Very nice.
This is what we're thinking of... being able to see the hands logo as you have it now, keep the "TRINITY" in red, and add the teal color I mentioned (PMS322) for the borders and for "United Methodist Church" - also, where the web address is listed, can that be in the red color and do you think it would make a good blend for the logo to look like that overall? Play with it as you see fit and let me know/see what you get/think. (or as a 2-color variation, flame is red, cross and the rest of the logo is the specific teal color...just one version of that if it's not too ugly, lol!)
You posted a few versions of the hands logo, some with the web address, some not and just the logo by itself. If in choosing your work as the "winner," would we get those variations with our final package?
----- thanks to all the excellent entries...we'll announce a winner this afternoon-----

I'm sure you already know this, but make sure you pick a PMS color for the red as well as the teal. Right now you technically have a 5 color logo (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, PMS 322) *taking off my professor cap now*

Thanks to all of the very talented Designers for submitting their entries to our contest. Every one of the LOGO's submitted were quite creative. If I could pick a couple of "runners-up," it would be the designs from Huhhso and ondarox.
But the winning prize goes to wwwzone!
Thanks again to CarolinaMan, ondarox, ElKootcho, Martincrumlish, pram & Huhhso.

Ruairi send me your 2Checkout link also. But before you do, I'm assuming you have a version that's 300 dpi for their business cards. Is that correct?
No, it's not correct. :)
I will send more files, not only the 300 DPI version one. ;)
As a rule - of course my rule - I only work vector logos - they can be used / exported at ANY sieze / resolution :)
I'll send the link now. Thanks.
