View Full Version : Urban Legends.com *Project Complete*
(Admin code added by Michael - FN161512U)
Hi everyone,
I am getting a redesign for my website www.urbanlegends.com and I'm going to start with a nice logo.
I have attached a file of various characteristics that I would like my logo to have.
I would like it to be a self-contained logo such as the old howstuffworks.com logo attached. ie. inside a shape. Perferably a rounded rectangle like the car.com or a shape like the evolution symbol.
I like the shape of the evolution logo (created by muvment) and like the 3d, non-corny look of it. I definitely want the logo to have this sort of 3d/shadow effect.
The car.com logo does very well in integrating the text into the 3d background.
I would like it tilted slightly like the Z car logo, although no necessarily in that direction, more facing the screen.
Lastly, I am not sure about. I may like 'dark gothic' lettering and colours like the metallica logo. However, this might be too 'busy' and so I might settle for simplier text like the howstuffworks.com logo.
The logo should go on a white background.
I think thats about it. Any questions, drop them here.
Thanks,
John

Hi eziey,
Thanks for being the first to have a shot.
Generally, good as a first attempt.
A couple of things. I dont think the shadows make it look 3d as such, just as if lights are on it. I think it looks a bit long, horizontally. Maybe if the words were put one on top of the other.
Not too fussed on the font or the symbol in the background.
Maybe try on version with a "car.com" type font, and another with a more gothic font.
Colours look good. Go well with the general theme of the site. Maybe cut the background down to 1 colour and another for the text. If you take out the border and instead put in a shadow.
I think the text needs to be bigger, and the logo in general looks a bit 'generic'.
Also, could you try tilting it, as opposed to facing in a certain direction.
Overall, the look is right (as in the shadow, finish.etc.)
Sorry for all the criticism, but it definitely has loads of potential!
Also, if you could try to make the shape a more smooth. I'm not sure about the points at the top and bottom middle.
Hi disturbreality.
Thanks for the go.
Not really what I'm looking for however.
I'm looking more for a brandable logo without a symbol. Nice text contained in a box, circle or whatever.
Maybe a gothic feel, however I am tending further away from this the more I think about it.
Probably more like a nice logo with darker, more gothic colours.

To All designers: I'd like to incorporate a small TM in the logo, nothing too bold. Also, I'm not stuck on the gothic fonts, I'd like to see some plain, bold fonts. I didn't do the current site design, that was the previous owner who I bought the site from, so I'm not stuck on those colours. I'd like to see some lighter variations, if it doesnt take too much time, as I may move the site towards a lighter theme. Lastly, I may reconsider the white background so also, if its not too much trouble I'd like to see a couple fo background variations.
Jason : I would prefer the lettering to stay inside of the box. Could you make the lettering full colour, and put a shadow behind the box also. I'd also like to see a few different fonts if possible.
eziey: The new revision is much better. I like the font better, although I'd also like to try a much more plain font and some new colours. The same as the car.com font would be ideal. Also, could you make its shape more uniform. It seems a bit weird at the minute. Maybe a rounded rectangle, or rounded square at an angle, as in the evolution logo.
disturbReality: I would really like to incorporate the 3d aspect if possible. Also, could you try out some more sutle colours and try tilting some of the rectangles.
Thanks,
John

jason: The logo seems a bit plain. I'm looking for something with a bit more "character". Not really sure what exactly that is though. It just looks very generic.
eziey: As with before, this is an improvement on the last one. I like the bottom one better. Could you try a couple of things. Firstly, could you take out the side colours and just have the logo on a white background. Next, could you experiement with some colours, light blue being one. Also, could I see it facing me more, possibly also just flat and tilted like the car.com logo.
Also, if you could try to incorporate some small very simple motif, like the car.com arrow, although not necessary may be nice.
samoyloff: I like this design, especially the white one on the green background (and the faded logo in the back is a nice addition.), although it would probably be in a header as opposed to having the full page green. Could I see what this may look like?
Could you also rearrange the urban text to make it more readable. I like the font (or maybe try something like it), but it is very hard to make out at first glance.

John,
I've revised the "urban" part of the logo. It's easier to read now. I am showing the logo on your website background, please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Alexander.

Hi,
The current website is not my design. I just bought the site and so wille re-designing it. Would I be able to see the green logo on a white background, and another with a white logo and green header, and the faded logo behind it.

Not sure if that's what you wanted to see? :)

Hi samoyloff,
Thanks, thats was I was looking for.
Could I also see a faded logo on the white background. Could you also try maybe incorporating another colour or two into the logo(s), even if its just different shades of green. Its looking good so far.

In my humble opinion, a perfect logo is one color. But that's just me, and I know there are lots of other opinions that I respect. ;)

The competition is not over. I am still looking forward to many more designs.
I simply meant that was what I was looking for in samoyloff's design, as in the green background and white background.
Also, to eziey,
could you make the box smaller, so that the text doesnt look as lost in the box. Pretty much like the car.com logo so I can see what it looks like.
Thanks.

A few more for ya.
Thanks,Paula
Everyone:
Just to let you know, I will be ending this competition in 24 hours, just to let anyone working on an entry to get it in.
eziey: I like the last 2 much better. I think we'll stick with that font and 'slash' design.
Could I see them on a white background, with the one colour version being red. Also could I see a very light 3d effect on the other. Lastly, could you move the TM to the angle of the logo.
Paula: Thanks for your entry. Not quite what I'm looking for. I've decided it would probably be best to go for a less 'busy' font compared with the gothic type fonts. If you could go for more regular shaped box, and make the design more simple, it would improve.
Here are my entries. Comments welcomed.

Hi Ruari,
Thanks for the entries.
Generally good logos, however I am looking for something with a bit more texture, hence asking for 3d effects in some of the entries. I'm trying to get the fine line betweek a great looking textured logo and that corny look a logo can get.
If you could adjust the angle of the logo so you can see the text better and give it some sort of texture I think it would be closer to what I am looking for.

I am working on an ambigram for you, standby...
i put something together quickly, I just got stuck on the B, maybe i will use a butterfly or the infinity symbol...the idea here is that the logo will work when rotated 180 degrees..
Thanks for the great entries everyone.
Consider this contest now CLOSED.
I will get back with a winner tomorrow after sleeping on it.
Thanks again,
John
After careful consideration I have decided that the winner of the contest is eziey, in particular his last set of 3 designs (with a couple of minor modifications).
Congrats, and thanks to all that took the time to enter!

Moved to revisions :)
Congrats eziey ;)
Hi eziey,
Not a lot of modifications.
Could I just try the last logo in the set of three with a slightly more prominent 3d effect.
Also, could you do the red logo with the red line around it with a lighter shadow and no shadow.
Is it possible for me to use a couple of variations for the logo (eg. the white and red), or would the prize only allow to choose one logo.
Also, are they available in vector format for printing on t-shirts.etc? (Not necessary, just a bonus if possible.)
Thanks,
John

When you say "slightly more prominent 3D effect" ,are you referring the color or angle ? Please advise..:)
the colour of the 3d background in the rectangle.
Thanks,
John

For the final, you'll be provided a vector copy in EPS format John (solid color and without shadow)...much more easier to be transfered on t-shirt..
If you choose the top logo, I'll provide you both version (red and white (the bottom one))...:)
Hi eziey,
I've decided to go with the third logo down.
Could you send me this in whatever formats you think appropriate, perferably including a layered photoshop format.
Also, could you send me just the urbanlegends text, without the box, but still with the red gradient in the logo.
Thanks,
John
