Hi All...

Let me first say that I'm VERY VERY impressed with what I've seen here so far. I am a web and graphic designer by trade, but quite frankly, I stink at designing logos. It just takes me too long to form a concept.

I've taken on The Chris Hammond Youth Foundation's print and web work, and I need a logo that will be used on all kinds of media. Chris Hammond is a major league baseball pitcher with the Atlanta Braves last year, now with the Yankees. His foundation builds baseball parks in rural areas for the kids who would otherwise have no place to play.

While I can't offer a prize for a design here, I can offer your link on the site's sponsors area (hey, it's something!). The site will be primarily used as a registration portal for their annual golf tourney fund raiser as well as for disseminating info to their constituency year-around. So, exposure could be decent.

As far as the design cues go, obviously baseball and kids should come into play somehow. The design should be in color, but should also look decent in black and white (nonprofit = not alot of printing budget = xerox machine... grin).

Deadline is this coming Wednesday, May 14.

Thanks everybody... and I look forward to what you come up with!!

Nathan--

Here's an idea I had for you. I added an old water tower to this design as they tend to be the tallest, most reconizable landmarks small, rural areas have.

Please do critique--this was a hard assignment!

Hi Julie...

This is definately a hard logo. I tried for a few hours before throwing in the towel and deciding to let the logo-meisters on this site have a go at it.

Your concept is not bad. I think a black border for the baseball might be better. The dark color of the water tower is what immediately draws the eye since it's really the darkest thing on the logo. Maybe lightening the color of the tower and darkening the border of the ball will help that. Darkening the CHYF text around the ball might help too.

How will this do in one color (black and white)?

Also, kids need to be incorporated somehow.

Thanks!
Nathan

Nice Julie. This is really a tough concept, I spent a while coming up with some ideas, but nothing looked good. Do you have any more specifics you could talk about? Would you like a drawing like Julie's or something simpler?

The only logo the Foundation has ever used has been four silhouettes of kids standing shoulder to shoulder wearing ball caps. 2 boys 2 girls. Maybe the design could focus more on the kids rather than the ballparks?

Yipee! Congrats Ed

Nathan, best of luck with this cause, I think it's great. I had a great time playing baseball when I was a kid. It kept me out of trouble too :D

Palmer... I just stumbled across this site a few weeks back. What a GREAT idea!!! And what an innovative utilization of a threaded message board!
