Hi there,

I'm looking for a logo for a Narnia-related website I'm building called NarniaNET (or NarniaNet, whichever). I'm still developing it, so the color scheme is not set in stone, but right now I'm using a dark red (#600000) and a gold (#FFD201). Given the layout I'm leaning towards, I'd probably rather have it on the gold background, but I'll gladly change the layout to suit a good logo. :)

For those of you not familiar with Narnia, you might want to check out the official site (http://www.narnia.com). It's a series of children's books by C.S. Lewis which are being turned into films, the first of which comes out next year.

I'm looking for something with a very distinctive, elaborate font. Maybe something kinda flowerly. Narnia's a fantasy series, somewhat like a tamer version of LOTR, to give you all an idea of what kind of "feel" I'm going for.

Also, the primary character in the stories is a lion named Aslan, so something with a lion head (something big and majestic looking, preferably) faded into the back or something of the sort might work really well. As before, I'm uber-flexible and open to ideas. Totally willing to rework the site AROUND the logo, if it's good.

Really looking forward to the entries! Thanks very much. :) If any of you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

EDIT: Whoops, sorry, forgot to issue a deadline. Let's say January 7th, just so people will have a chance to enter even if they're busy over the hoildays.

EDIT AGAIN: Deadline extended to January 10th.

That's a nice start, Tonya. I like the lion. Would it be possible to maybe add some depth or effect to the lion and/or text, to make it all look more elaborate?

Interesting project... I used to enjoy C.S. Lewis, I may be entering ;)

Hello,
I would like to submit this as my idea for your logo.
The lion is an original illustration that was turned down for another logo project. Perhaps he'll find a home.
Please advise,
Kimber.

Sorry for the delay! I'll be replying more rapidly from here on out, with some exception over the holidays, of course. :)

Alex - glad to hear it. :) I look forward to your entry.

Tonya - I really like the black/red fade effect, and the increased detail on the lion. Would it be possible to experiment with a different front? Maybe something a bit thicker, with a more uppercase-like N? Other than that, it's very impressive, especially since it's only been through one revision! You've definitely got a beat on the feel I'm going for.

MOZ - not sure why you withdrew. I think I got a look at your logo, but don't remember what it was like offhand. Sorry to hear it...if you wanna jump back in, though, please feel welcome to, of course.

cre8or - That's a very impressive lion, and the sun-like look of the logo fits the Narnia theme really well, though I think it might be the wrong shape. That is, unless it can be made as part of a header, since it's so large/wide. I'm not explaining this very well, I'm sure. Do you know what I mean?

MOZ is back with this one. The other wasn't right.

Hi Moz. :)

I like the lion in the circle a lot. The font is okay, but I think it's a big too jagged. I think both the lion seal and the words would look better with some kind of fade and/or bevel effect, to give them some depth. What do you think?

MOZ went wild with the photoshop filters:yes: Here's a bunch of different textures that all could work "middle earthy"

Hi Moz,

Wow, I really like some of those effects! Particularly the first, fourth, and fifth on the left, and the first and third on the right.

I'd rather go with something gold looking than silver, but I'm leaning very slightly towards the solidness of the silver one on the top left (as opposed to the broken-up look of the others). Any chance that one (first on the left) could be done in the color of, say, the fourth on the left? I'm just thinking out loud here; I'm not sure what would look good in practice. I like the embossed look of most of them, but it might look better toned down so you can make out the detail and shape of the lion's face in some of them. What do you think?

I also really like the Ns, but was wondering if it'd be possible to smooth them out a bit, make them look a little less jagged. The N is very distinctive, though, so I like the general shape of it.

Great work so far. :)

Cool! The effects really grab you! I'll see what I can do for you as requested. It will be later tonight befor I can get to it. As for the detail, I'll post changes individually so you can see it better. I create large and then reduce when posting. For your final I'll make sure and create an original sized for the web.

I realize that larger versions would remedy some of the things I'm mentioning, but the thing is I don't think it COULD be too much larger without sort of dominating whatever layout I end up using, so I think the issue needs to be gotten around some other way.

Looking forward to your next revision, either way. :)

Hello!
Hope you had an enjoyable holiday. :)
I would like to propose this re-work of my earlier lion, in a more horizontal format.
I really wanted to keep the wee circles, they originally were to lend themselves to a "Art Nouveau" look, but they put me in mind of jewels/LOTR, so I kept them. If you don't like them, they can easily be gone. :)
Please advise,
Kimber.

Hey :)

Just to let you know: I'm still working on the logo ;)

Hi Kimber. :)

I really like that one, too. I'm not sure which I like more (I've plugged both into a layout mockup I've been toying with). I think I like your new one a little more (the "string" of circles looks quite nice). I'm wondering, though, if there'd be any graceful way to put a little less emphasis on the lion, and a litle more on the text? Not an extreme shift, mind you.

Alex: glad to hear it! I've seen some of your logos, and like your style. I look forward to your entry.

A little more text, a little less lion.
Please advise.
:)

(Happy New Year, too)

A definite improvement. :) I really like the font, and the colors work very well. Great job. One last tiny detail: could you possibly move the lion's tail so it's dangling over his body, or something like that? Seems like the easiest/most graceful way to make the logo a little narrower.

To everyone else: I'd like to extend the deadline to January 10th, which means there's exactly one week left. :) Would still love to see revisions from MOZ and possibly Tonya, and still looking forward to Alex's entry. :)

I've finished it at last :)

I choose to go with the typographic design to show the relation to literature and the book. The letters of the word "Narnia" are designed specifically for this logo :)

Hi Alex,

I like the font, and the way it looks on the black and red backgrounds. I think the best thing it has going for it is that it looks more like a "traditional" website logo. It'd fit easily in most layouts, which is a plus.

I feel like it needs something more than text, though, however stylized; a lion, a sword, vines...something to tie it into Narnia. And perhaps some gold trim around the red letters? Or the other way around? Just thinking out loud here. :)

Anyway, great entry, even as it stands now. I especially like the fact that it resembles a gate. That might be a good angle to explore, if you haven't already?

It was a tough call, and I ended up getting a few outside opinions, but I decided to go with cre8or's entry.

The last-minute revisions were great, and caused me to re-think some things, but in the end it was hard to pass up a custom-drawn lion, and the font had the feel I was looking for.

Thank you all! All the entries were, honestly, very impressive.

Congrats, Kimber!!!!  ;)

(....aaaaaaaw, you beat me to it!!!  )

A question to the client: are any further revisions needed or is the last Kimber's entry is exactly what you want to receive?

Another question: can we use our entries as concepts in our portfolios? :)

Thanks in advance ang congratulations on your new logo! :D

I'd like the last revision I mentioned, with the tail. Other than that I'm happy with it, though. :) Maybe a higher-resolution version, too, just in case.

Absolutely; and thank you for taking the time to enter. There wasn't a low-quality logo in the whole bunch. :)

Thank you very much for choosing my design!
I'll make the change to the tail as requested, and post a final for your approval.
The files I send will be: high res photoshop / jpg files as well as scaleable vector files that are resolution independant.

I'm at work right now, but I'll work on this later tonight when I get home.

PS. Alex, don't cry -- your type-design was simply MARVELOUS!
Ever consider making fonts? (Nudge, nudge)

As promised, here is the lion with his tail up and over his back.
Please advise.

Once I hear your final word, I will prepare the files and PM you with a download link.

Thank you,
Kimber.

Hmm...could the tail maybe be made a little smaller? And less "pointy" looking? If it's not an easy change to make, no big deal; I'd be satisfied declaring this finished. :)

Hello there,
I'm not entirely sure what you eant by "pointy-looking", but I assumed it was the angles in the bend.
Here is a new tail. Please advise.
If this is more to your liking, I'll forward your download link.
Thank you.
