We need a logo for Friends Community Church. I've been very impressed by the quality of design work here, and I'm excited to see what you'll come up with for us!

Here are the details:
This is a non-denominational community church. The chuch is very young--average age is late twenties or early thirties. We're looking for something contemporary...maybe an iconographic symbol that can be used with or without the church name. Feel free to experiment with the color palette; we don't have a predetermined color in mind.

Church tagline: Love is at the center of Friends Community Church.
Vision statement: Love for God, love for each other, love for the world.

Emphasis:The logo should emphasize people...people together...community. Please refrain from using cliche hearts. Our physical location is in Alaska, so something outdoor/nature related might be appropriate. Mostly, it's important that the logo not look too feminine.

Avoid: The acronym FCC should not be emphasized, as there is a correctional facility in our area that uses those initials!

File format: we need the final product in a vector format, so that we can scale easily. AI files would be great. EPS is also fine.

Deadline: Deadline for the contest is December 30th. We will extend if necessary--since the logo design is so important to us--but we're really eager. (Web site design and some print work are waiting on this.) Prize is $100.

Thanks! I can't wait to see your entries!

Hello Carol,

Here's my concept.. It's a snowflake (Alaska), made of nine differently colored people (non-denominational church), holding their hands (friends). I have also used the easily recognizable fish symbol in this icon, which is well hidden inside the snowflake, and while it can be seen, it does not dominate the design. :) Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Alex.

Great concept development, Samoyloff! I like how you've incorporated the 3 symbols of snow, people, and the fish.

We'd like to see a little experimentation with colors. The shades of blue are very appropriate for a snowflake, but seem cool and icy. Let's try something more warm, friendly, inviting... or maybe one with bolder colors. (If the warmer colors don't work for a snowflake, maybe it could be a sun? Interior Alaska is also known as "land of the midnight sun.")

Could we also see one with a single fish, or one of the people, in a contrasting color--make one of the individual elements more apparent?

Thanks!

Carol,

I'm happy that you like the concept. :) I've played with colors a bit, please review the attached drafts and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Alex.

Thanks for the new colors, Samoyloff. I want to show it to a few more people for input...I'll post another note early next week.

Jason, I like the idea of the the free-form people. Their positioning seems unnatural...I think you were going for a kneeling position in order to imply the heart shape (is that correct?). But I've shown it to a couple of teenagers, and they didn't get that. You might experiment a bit more with their shape and position. This is a pretty contemporary, non-traditional church, so the kneeling idea is foreign to lots of younger people here.

I'm getting favorable responses from people on your design, Samoyloff. Regarding colors... the green/yellow palette is too much like a local oil company. Could you please try one in a dark rust color?

We're still open to other designs as well. Any other entries out there?

I think the icon for this logo speaks to both community and openness, a sort of "open invitation" to the community. Feedback appreciated!

Thanks for your quick response on the new colors, Samoyloff. The last one (3 distinct colors) catches my attention.

Mbleigh, you captured the idea of the Church with your "openness" concept. The yellow shape makes me think of "CAUTION!", though...and that doesn't work. You might experiment with different shapes and colors to frame the people.

Two variations for you :)

Back from the holidays and hoping to see activity pick up here again. Mbleigh your latest designs are much stronger. I like the colors you've chosen.

We're nearing the deadline for this contest...any more entries?

Thank you, Paula. You've all done a great job! There are elements of each design that we like. We're discussing and will post our final selection later today.

As the deadline is fast approaching, thought I'd try a new font and some more shapes. Let me know what you think!

After much discussion, we've made our decision. Again, let me compliment all of you and thank you for your efforts! I'm impressed by your skills and talent.

We've decided to go with samoyloff's design. I don't believe we need any revisions, but if possible, we would like to receive two different color schemes: the first one posted (shades of blue) and the last one posted (green, orange, and blue).

We'll need the files in vector format (either illustrator files or eps). If you send a native illustrator file, please convert the fonts to outlines. Also, could you please tell us which font you used, so we can match it when we add other text? I assume you'll send me a message to let me know how I can retrieve the files?

Thanks again!
Carol
