We are seeking creative content in preparation for launching the HomesAndLoans.com website. HomesAndLoans.com is a central resource center for “all your real estate and mortgage needs.” That includes all services associated with buying and selling homes. We expect the average age of our audience to be 27-42 years old.
You can see our current logo at http://www.homesandloans.com. We thought that it was too pastel and lacking presence. It is a place marker.
The logo will need to be usable for the website, for print media (in color as well as black and white), and it would be nice to have a version that we can use as a favicon and trade/service mark. It is ok to have unique versions for these different uses of the logo.
The logo should incorporate the name HomesAndLoans.com, whereas the trade/service mark and favicon do not have to have the full name, they just need to be easily identifiable as coming from HomesAndLoans.com.
Some of the things we would like are:
-People-friendly
-Professional, yet fun, but not too cartoony. We anticipate this will become a corporate icon, but we want it to appeal to the internet crowd and new web users.
-Bright and Vibrant colors – As a sample, we liked some of the colors from the following post: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=5996
Some of the designers whose work we have liked are: Raja, Jason, Fabian, RadicalSEED, Aaron, Hypnosis, DesignGeneral, QSDA, and Samoyloff. By no means a complete list, just some we liked as we browsed through a couple of other bid submissions.
We invite all to bid on this and we look forward to seeing your submissions.
For the winning designer there is a possibility we will have additional future graphic/design work.
The deadline is January 05, 2005. The prize is $200.00.
The deliverables are the usual vector, psd, jpg and tif. Black and white and color for each.
Let me know if you have any questions or would like any clarifications.
Happy designing!

mbleigh - good start! How about a couple variations with different fonts and maybe seeing how the wording looks without being angled?
The colors you chose are pretty good. I'd be interested to see some variations with other colors.
Feel free to submit any other ideas/concepts as well, it would be nice to have some to compare.
Any other submissions out there?

Thanks for the mention :)
Nothing like embracing your home ;)
The top version was designed using RGB colors (since your main focus is web) and the middle one is in spot.

:)
Here's an idea that can be worked up. It's a home made from a dollar sign. I put it in a stop sign to represent "one stop". It can be an icon type logo. It can also be jazzed up to look more like a home...this is just the concept.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thanks everyone for your submissions thus far. There are some with real potential here!
Below I will give feedback to all who have contributed so far.
NOTE: As this design will be used in a variety of medium, it is important to us to see how it looks with different variations. On your revisions please include all of the following 4 variants:
1) Logo for online use
2) Logo for offline use
3) Logo in Black and White
4) The trade/service mark on its own
As examples, see Raja's post above as well as Jason's.
Here we go with the feedback...
--------------------
In general we don't really like the idea of the dollar signs, we want to make sure that people know (and remember) that this is Homes AND Loans. We do like the gradient look and contrasting colors. Simplistic is always better, especially with the power of the name "HomesAndLoans.com".
mbleigh: We don't really like the "Moneyburst" behind the house or the dollar sign in the house. We would like to see something a little more professional looking.
Jason: We like the positive feel and the little man embracing the home. One person remarked to us that the house looks more like an arrow representing rates going up which we don't want people to think. Try some variations on the house to make it look less like an arrow and maybe play with changing the little man a little bit to look more human like (some of us did not realize it was a little man). Also, try some variations with different color schemes.
eziey: We like the coloring and the font. However, the house looks too busy. We do like the idea of the interlocking pieces, but it kind of looks like a tornado is hitting the house.
MOZ: We really aren't feeling this one. The windows and doors are clever, but it is not really what we are after.
Fabian: We like the simplicity of this design. The roof is too strong and we heard comments that a 5 point star can have Satanic references which we would like to avoid. A 6 point star is the Star of David, so maybe a 7 or 8 point star? We would be interested in seeing something that does not have too strong of a resemblance to a house.
Raja: Excellent job! We really like this one. We like the good solid feel and subtle building resemblance. One comment was that it is a little reminiscent of the old H&R Block logo, so maybe try to soften the edges just a little bit, but not too much.
Paula23 (1st design): This one is a little too focused around real estate. Of the colors you gave us we liked the green background best. Also, we do not like the ampersand and it should say HomesAndLoans (both homes and loans are plural, and we want the word and in there).
graphixparanoid: This one is too cartoonish for what we are looking for. We do like it to be simple. We do not like the colors too much.
MyChicken: We like the colors and effect of your first design. We like the house logo, but try to lose the dollar sign behind the house. It does look nice with something around it, kind of bordering it. Maybe try to just take out the hashes of the dollar sign, or some other variant. Also, more emphasis on the "And" part of HomesAndLoans.com as we don't want it to be forgotten.
lonelyrabbit: We really liked this one. You did a great job of emphasizing the AND in the name. We are not too fond on the colors here. Try to use several different color schemes on your revisions. We liked the circles as well. Good job.
Paula23 (2nd design): We liked the font on this one, but didn't like the ampersand or the dollar tag. We did like the service/trade mark but try playing with a variation of "H and L" in the house or "HAL" in the house. Additional colors might help as well, but we like the gradient look.
shnickerdoodle studios: This one kind of looked like a Tsunami is hitting the house, which we want to avoid especially after the tragedies of late. Try to take out the dollar signs and use some different colors. Also, make the tagline more authoritative. Maybe achieve this just by capitalizing some of the words and ending it with a "."
--------------------
We would like everybody to make revisions (remember to include the four revisions - see beginning of post) and invite those who have not yet participated to do so.
Thanks all for your hard work and talent.
Fabian

Hi, here's my another idea. Simple yet symbolic. Hope you can notice the H & L as a shape of a house ;)
