I was so happy with the logo my partner and I received for our new dog daycare business that I wanted to try again. This time for a business my husband and I have. We currently own and operate a dog training business called Paws & Effect and are interested in obtaining a logo for this business. The following describes our philosophy and the services we offer.

Paws & Effect is dedicated to improving your relationship with your dog. We specialize in increasing and enhancing your communication. Through obedience training and/or behavior modification we strive to make your life and your dog’s life better. We offer the following private, hands on, in home sessions that can be scheduled at your convenience.
• Behavior modification sessions target inappropriate behaviors such as, aggression, jumping, leash pulling, house training, separation anxiety or barking. Sessions include observation of your dog in its home environment, a behavioral diagnosis and demonstrations of techniques with thorough owner coaching to achieve the desired results. A written, personalized treatment plan is provided for continued reference or related veterinarian visits.
• Our basic obedience course stresses benevolent leadership, thereby strengthening the bond between you and your dog. Given in three individual lessons, the course provides owner training designed to show you how to consistently get the most reliable response. Our gentle method focuses on positive reinforcement and reward based training and never uses harsh or punitive measures. All family members are encouraged to participate.
• For dogs less than six months of age, our puppy course is designed to help promote appropriate behavior while learning primary obedience. Because puppies are so receptive to new experiences, early training is essential to behavioral well being.
• Thinking of getting a dog? Our puppy adoption session will assist you with breed selection, how to puppy proof your home, the equipment you’ll need and answer all questions about your newest family member.

Check out our website at www.pawsandeffectny.com for more about the company.

We are not sure what we are looking for in a logo design, but know what we don’t want. We don’t want anything cutesy or cartoonish. We’re thinking more of something classy, sophisticated and professional looking. Maybe something which incorporates a sketch or silhouette (not sure of what but we’re sure you’ll think of something clever) but we are definitely open to suggestions. We are also open to font styles although it should be easy to read. Note: We are partial to spaniels and if you are considering putting a dog in the logo then please use a spaniel type dog.

We don’t have specific company colors but are partial to blue.

The logo will be used on everything from business cards, stationary and forms, website to store signage, vehicle signage and T-shirts. The logo should be easy to reproduce with a minimum of fine detail that could be lost when resizing. Please provide the various file formats we would need to support these usages.

Deadline is Monday, January 10, 2005. We are offering $125.
Looking forward to seeing everyone’s responses.

Thanks for the entries. Here's some feedback.

We want just the name Paws & Effect in the logo. No other text. Also please use the "&" symbol, not the word "and".

We think a softer looking font would be better.

Taldo - unfortunately, the star/paw symbol just doesn't grab us.

Mbleigh - We like the idea you are trying to convey - getting from Point A to Point B with your dog but wonder if there is a better way to convey it (although we're not sure how).

Thanks,
Tim & Elissa

Although it's the obvious graphic given the name of the company, we don't want to use a paw print in the logo. We'd rather use a dog's head (something similar to the Spaniel / Setter head that we've attached).

Thanks for the entries so far.

Not a problem. Do you like what I've submitted sans the paw print? Continue or trash it?

Moz - We think the font style has possibilities so it might be worth exploring further. This might contradict what we said before, but we wondered if you could somehow combine the paw print and the "&" symbol (maybe use the top of the symbol as the paw pad with the claws coming out from there). We'd also like to see if we could work a dog's head into the logo.

Mbleigh - My husband likes the dog better on the left side as you originally had it but would like to see a sketch of a dog rather than a silhouette (so we could see more details about the dog). I'm still not convinced about the arrow; maybe a different style arrow would be better.

All - I think I'd like something with a little more punch; something that pops out at you and makes you feel good about what we can do to help you and your dog.

Thanks,
Elissa

GOOD IDEA! Please let me know if this is what you meant.

Moz - it's what I meant but unfortunately it's not working for us. Doesn't exactly look like a paw print. I think we need to try some other ideas and move away from the paw print.

eziey - sorry for the delay in responding but we got wrapped up with the holidays. we like your submission but would like you to try a couple of things for us.

- remove the disc/frisbee from the logo
- we like the two-color effect and like the blue but are not sure about the gray. could you please try some other colors instead of the gray like black and some other colors of your choosing.

thanks,
elissa and tim

We like it without the disc/frisbee. We're leaning towards the blue and black but would also like to see the following:

- the original one you had which was blue and gray but with a darker shade of gray
- reversing the blue and black (e.g. Paws, Effect is black and dog, symbol are blue)

Could you put each of the logos in a separate frame. I want to try copying them into Word and I'm having trouble when they're bundled together.

Also - what font style did you use?

Thanks, Elissa & Tim

Eziey - did you see our last post? We just wanted to see some additional versions before we made a final decision.

Eziey - We've decided to go with the blue letters and the black dog.

How do we get the logo in all the different file formats that we need? We're going to use the logo for signage, tee-shirts, printed material, and website. We'd also like to get a file containing the fonts that you used, because it doesn't seem to be one of the font choices in Word. Also, can you send the RGB settings for the blue color so we can recreate in Word.

In addition, the person doing our business cards says she wants an eps file (I'm hoping you know what that is). She says the text should be changed to "outlines" or "curves" or she needs the font files (again, I hope you know what she means).

You can email the files and other information to us at [EDIT: email removed]. If they are big, you can zip them.

Many thanks for your great work on this logo.
