Hello Everyone!
My family and I are opening up a gift and home accents store this spring and need a great logo. The store is located in a suburb of Chicago. We will sell a variety of gifts and collectibles including Waterford, Lladro, Swarovski, Vera Bradley handbags, Brighton handbags & jewelry, Department 56 villages, candles, bath products, jewelry, and various home décor.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
I’d like the logo to convey tradition & elegance. I want it to be a logo that our customers will easily recognize on any box or shopping bag. Our customers will (hopefully) get a very warm and cozy feeling when they walk through our store. We’re using a lot of warm browns and dark blue colors in our interior. I’m not looking for anything “country” or “cutsie”. Because of the high-end product, we need to have a sophisticated logo, but nothing too stuffy or snobby.
Details:
Store Name: Peppertree Gifts & Home Accents
Possible graphics to include: Peppertree is an actual type of tree but good luck finding a graphic for it! I’d like to get a tree in the logo, though.
Colors: Dark blue & tan in any shades/combinations. I’ll also need a black/white version.
Font: Traditional, preferably a serif font. I’ve seen some great antique-looking fonts too.
Prize: $125
Contest Ends: January 21
Logo Use: I will be using this logo on my web site, shopping bags, boxes, print ads, stickers, t-shirts, newsletters, business cards, and catalogs.
Formats Needed: JPG, TIFF, EPS for both color & b/w
Thanks so much! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.
:)
MOZ is working on an idea for you.
Here you go as promised! IMHO I feel this works perfectly well in black & white. It will save you lots of $$$$$ and color can be worked in on the background of what's being printed. ie; brown or blue bags. Or print logo in any one color on a color background item. I have some ideas for it to be in color too.
PLMK how you like it.

Thanks so much for your ideas. I'm so excited to see what fresh ideas!
Here are my thoughts . . .
Moz - I'd like to see logo with another tree and perhaps a bit smaller. The tree is the first thing I see when I look at the logo and I'd rather focus more on "Peppertree". I'd also like to see some color, the black is too heavy. I'd love to see some revisions and more ideas. :)
Mbleigh - I really like what you've done. It's simple, classic and empasized the name. A few options I'd like to see (1) Add a second color. Maybe make the leaves tan or green. (2) I'd like to see some other font options. I've never liked script font too much, but if you find a subtle looking one, I'd like to see that. Also, any antique-type fonts you can try? (3) Can you keep "Peppertree" on the first line and move "Gifts & Home Accents" to the second line? Thanks. :D
I love what I've seen so far but would love to see some other ideas too!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had fun last night. I know I sure did (maybe too much!:P So forgive me if I'm not making too much sense with this post.
Thanks everyone for working on this for me. Here's my thoughts . . .
mbleigh - My family and I really like your revisions too. For version 1, could you change the font to the font used in version 3? I like the ver. 3 font much better. I like how you made the last "E" bigger to balance the word out. It looks like the color in version 3 is lighter than in 2. Might just be my computer screen, but if there is a difference, I like the darker colors better. Had an idea . . . can you try removing the scrolls and adding a border around the whole thing? Curious to see how that would look. Also, just noticed, that when I look at the version 3 logo b/w, because it's so small the leaves look like a bird! I guess the graphic looses some detail when it's that small. Any other leaves/branch graphics you can try? Thanks, I'm really liking your ideas!
Deanna - Thanks for joining us here! I've seen your work on other posts and am very excited to see more ideas from you. Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about the graphics in this design. The first thing I think of is tropical.
Moz - I like this design much better. It still seems a bit busy for me and the fonts are still too heavy looking. The scroll designs are pretty but might be a bit too much. Would love to see any other ideas you have.
Thanks again for all your hard work!

These ideas are great! Thanks to Paula & GP for entering the contest.
Here are my thoughts . . .
Paula & GP . . . Peppertree is one word. Oops :)
Paula . . . I like the third design best. I like the border surrounding the text very much. However, I'm not so sure about the stones (?) curving around the berry graphic. Could you show me that design without the stones? Maybe a solid line or no line at all. Also, I'm not crazy about the italic font for the "P". I don't know if it's because it is an italic or if it's because of that particular font you chose. If you could, show some different options for that too. Thank you so much for your ideas. I'd love to see how these revisions go!
GP . . . I really like what you've done. It's different and "clean" looking. I really like it. I also like how it looks reversed out. I never thought of that for my logo, but with your design it looks great. Would you show me how the logo looks with light tan instead of white reversed onto a navy blue background? Also, can't decide if I like the "curly" part on either side of the circle. Can you try a few options of that for me? Thanks. Great work!
Thanks for the time and effort you've put into this. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Everytime I log onto this board I get more and more excited by the great logo ideas I see. You guys are great!
Nvoke . . . Thanks for your entry. I like the tree graphic and the border. Very elegant and classy looking. I don't really see anything that I'd like you to change. Great job!
Paula . . . Thanks for all the revisions. You've given me some great options!
Just_G . . . Thanks for your entries. I like #1 very much. Would you show me a revision with a different script font and could you change the text to navy blue? (Also it's Peppertree, not pappertree. Oops!);)
MyChicken . . . Thanks for you entry too! I love seeing so many ideas for my logo. Thanks for sticking with the tan/navy blue color theme. It really helps me visualize the end result. I thought the logo looked a bit heavy, maybe the tree is too much. Any other tree graphics? Also, if you could show me a revision with Peppertree alone on the first line and Gifts moved to the second line. Thanks! Can't wait to see it.:)
GP . . . Great revisions! Thanks so much. I especially like the logo showing more detail. It really makes the logo pop! Can't think of anything else to change at this point. Great job!
Thanks to everyone for their hard work on this. You guys are great!

Hi everyone. Sorry I went MIA for a few days. I was very happy to get back to my computer and take a look at the great progress on my logo.
Deanna . . . great new ideas!:P I really like the third logo. It looks great in black. I also like the fourth logo. Reversed out looks very nice. Thanks so much!
MyChicken . . . The tree looks much better to me! Thanks for the revision. I also like the other options you gave me. Especially #5. I like the tree graphic. It looks "prettier" than the original logo. Thanks!
Just_G . . . After seeing your revisions, I think I like having the graphic on above the text (like your first design). I'm still not crazy about the script font though, any more choices? When I showed the logo to someone who didn't know it was supposed to say Peppertree, she had trouble reading it. Thanks!
Thanks guys!

mbleigh . . . I think we like your original design best. It's just the graphic that we're having trouble with. Can you try to find other branch or tree graphics? Thanks! :D

Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest. It was great to see so many ideas for our logo. With four of us in the family, wouldn't you know that everyone liked something different. It took a lot of talking to get us all to finally agree. And we finally did!
Congratulations graphixparanoid! You are our winner! :P
The look of your logo will be perfect on our business cards, t-shirts, web site, anything we can think of! I like logo 1, version 2 best. We still can't decide between "A" or "B" though. Could we possibly get both versions from you? I think the logo all in black is fine for now. I think a one-color logo will be more cost effective. Please make sure that the file will be grayscale so I can change the color to whatever pms color we choose. I'll need a tiff format, pdf format, and jpg format. High resolution and the larger the better. I have photoshop so I can resize it as needed in my own designs. Also, I'm worried that the "gifts & home accents" line is too light. Can you try bolding the font and post it for me? When I see it on a colored background, the letters tend to blur out.
Thanks!
Paige

Sorry but I need you to send them again. Would you make the logos black and change mode to cmyk? Grayscale isn't letting me make any changes to the color. Other than that, everything looks great!
Thanks

Here yah go. :) I attached here TIFF format as your requirements, i save it with layer... so, once you open it in photoshop you can even change or transfer it to other background. Let me know if there still something you want me to send you. Is the PDF file ok to you? (that can be open in illustrator or photoshop as well, and can manage its colour mode)
