Hi designers,
I am looking for a logo to for a new software product - Question Writer. It is a rapid development tool that allows people to quickly create professional quizzes, assessments and tests without programming skills.
I am looking for something which is professional, yet simple, and will try to emphasise the idea of 'rapid development' without using cliche/lazy designs such as blur effects. However I am willing to consider all entries. The requirements are as follows:
- Product name: Question Writer
- Should include both words
- No more than 4 colours should be used
The website isn't ready yet, but will be at
http://www.questionwriter.com
The logo will be used everywhere, but especially on boxes/cases of the software as well as websites and powerpoint presentations.
Deadline 17th of January 2005.
Look forward to seeing your entries!
Kind regards,
David Low

Hi Bill,
I think the pencil insignia gives the impression of a 'slow development', rather than a fast and rapid impression that I am looking for. Maybe something a little simpler? Or something that gives the impression of new technology?

Hi Quirkdesign,
The italic version of the word 'writer' looks good. Not too keen on the question mark however. Maybe more cool designs instead to emphasise new technology, or coolness??

Here's another concept...

Hi all,
Thank you for all your entries, please do get those concepts coming in! I had a meeting with my partner today about the entries so far, and it had been decided that the two fonts (by QuirkDesign) is too similar to a competitors logo and may cause confusion.
Also is it possible to have more concepts without using question marks as the logo.
If at all possible, try to make the logo look more modern and stylish, futuristic could also be good.
I (personally) do like your first concept so far eziey, but keep more varied concepts coming in!!
Thanks a bunch again,
David
PS. Hope things are okay eziey in Malaysia and you are not effected by the tsunami.

Hi all,
Sorry for not giving you feedbacks earlier, extremely busy here in the UK, and got some freaky gales hitting us causing some disturbances!
I like your concept radicalSEED, it is good. Is it possible to change the colours from black and red to something else? Black and red is the colour scheme of the competitors.... Could you (and indeed Eziey for your last concept) redesign so that the question mark is not within the logo?
Graphixparanoid, I think the design is too cartoony unfortunately. Looking for something slick, the word 'questionwriter' and a logo of some sort (that is not a question mark for now).
With your concept Just_G, the italic and the printed fonts got a 'majestic' feel to it. If you use a different font and avoid italics, and give it a 'futuristic' and 'new technolog' feel to it, it would be cool.
Any new concepts from you guys Bill, eziey and QuirkDesign?
Hope to see more concepts coming in soon,
Cheers,
David

Hi David, certainly any color scheme is possible. Do you have any colors in mind?
Also, I don't quite understand what you are asking for. The "question mark/Letter Q" is the whole idea. If I were to remove it only text would remain.
Please clarify, thanks. :)

Hi there!
I would like to clarify afew things up as I think my recent posts sent out afew confused messages! Many apologies...
I think many companies/competitors use the questionmark/letter (Q) as their logo and we need to differentiate from them. Some of the designs are wonderful, just that I also want something with just the text, and a 'catchy' logo i.e. [logo]QuestionWriter etc. etc. (obviously you will do a much better job than me in that!!). A logo that is a striking image that doesn't have to do with the text at all. Something modern (as our technology is new and is a rapid development tool) and memorable.
As with the colour scheme any is possible, there is absolutely no
restriction at all.
The logos here are still at the mo not exactly what we are looking for, so the competition is still alive and well!
Carl: Thanks for you entry, I do like the clock design!! Maybe possible to use other fonts to? Any other ideas for the 'rapid development' look?

Hello! Here's my design:

Hi Bethie,
I like the design! The fonts are good, also like the shadow metallic idea that you put into the big blue logo. Could you play around with that idea abit more?
On the same subject, Carl, is it possible for you to alter the clock in your design to give it a little depth?
Keep them coming in!

Hi, David :)
Here's an idea from me. The font is designed specially for the logo, not taken from a font library ;)

Hi ... here's a few more color options, layout ideas ...
The first logo here is CMYK so it would have to be printed in 4 colors. I have included the comparable file in 3 spot colors.

Hi again,
Thanks for the entries again!
Bethie: cheers for the layout and the colour options. I will see what the boss thinks of them...
Carl: Is it possible to 'accent' the 'stroke' of the large clock so that the Q really stands out? And could you also experiment with various colour scheme? The YMCK looks good though!!
Alex_Kogan: I like the tick idea. Although the desktop design is good, the actual font would be too confusing for clients to read. Maybe a different colour design too as black and red is the colour of the competitors.
And... any new designs from Radical Seeds? (here's hoping...)

Hi,
Thanks for all the entries. They have all been excellent. But as with all competitions, there has to be a winner.
We have chosen Carl as the designer who we would like to work with. Due to the simple yet strong image of the clock (representing rapid and fast ideas).
Congratulations Carl on an excellent design!! Afew more minor tweaks though if possible. Could we see the version 1 of the logo, but with the version 2 clock and the 4 spot colours? Also could we try various different colours too as well as different fonts?
Thanks again,
David

Congrats Carl
Moved to revisions forum.
David,
Here are some options.
I was trying to incorporate the clock from 2 and the text from 1. Do you want the dot in the "i" to be the clock arm pivot point?
Also, here are some font options. Do you have a preference, serif/sans serif? Roman/Gothic?
Thanks!

Hi Carl,
They are looking good! Could you possibly use the same font you used in Logo 1:version 1, but using the 4 spot clock, and the dot in the 'i' to be the clock arm pivot point.
As for the colour, the management had decided on the colour scheme for the web, and it shall be similar to the colours you have chosen for logo1:version1 (ie. blue, grey, gold). The blue should be same colour you have used for version 2. I shall attach a powerpoint template that I'd quickly designed for you to see the colour scheme.
So to summarise, Logo1:version1 but with
1) the clock in 4 spot YMCK and the 'i' being the pivot point,
2) a quick tweak to the blue
Thanks Carl! Any problems let me know, but it's defo on the way there!!
David
...David,
For some reason the blue in Powerpoint looks different than in my layout and photo programs. Microsoft!
Anyway, I used the actual RGB values to match the colors. If these aren't OK, I can try to visually match so they are the same as in Powerpoint.

Hi Carl,
Excellent! The colours are fine so no worries there.
Just need one more tweak and several vector graphics that you could supply...
ver.3 - could you do another versions of this one, one with the word 'question' in grey (as in ver.1). I will need both the YMCK and the 3 colour spot designs of each one (4 in total - 2 blue and 2 grey).
Is that okay Carl?
Look forward to recieving them! :)
PS. For further designs, is it best if I contact you here or directly to your email?
No problem with the multiple versions.
I will post a zip file with all the versions when I get home this afternoon.
I will PM and email you the file location.
:)

Hi Carl,
Cheers again. That would be fantastic. Just to clarify, the background of the logo will be transparent right? Will need it to be so I can put it on various websites etc. Is that ok?
David
You will actually recieve multiple file formats. The GIF files will be setup to be transparent against a white and a blue background so you can use it against both. You will also get .AI, .EPS, .JPG, .PNG and .TIF versions in both web and high resolution.
