Hi,

This contest is for a logo for exciting young company, DV Networks. - see http://www.dv-networks.com - this site is waiting to be replaced by a more professional one. The company competes for business with larger established companies and as such needs a strong logo.

DV Networks is an infrastructure software company that has developed a caching solution, enabling ISPs to save 50% on bandwidth costs by intelligently delivering content that is requested repeatedly. (Meaning that if a certain movie is downloaded 100X, the ISP only has to fetch it from outside the local network once - all further requests can be served locally. So you get cost savings for the ISP and much better performance for the ISP's subscribers.) DV comes from 'déjà vu' because the technology is expert at optimizing the delivery of content it has seen before.

The logo will be the beginning of a new look for the company. It should convey a solid company with an innovative twist. We would like the design to be professional but a little bit fun as well.
We will leave colors up to the designers, but we favor something with 2-3 colors, at least one of them somewhat bright.

The logo need not contain the Name DV Networks - but we will want a version with the name beside the logo as well as one with the name below the logo. We are planning to use a tagline like: 'optimizing broadband traffic' if you can provide a design that shows how that will work - that would be perfect.

The audience of DV Networks customers is made up of Tech-savvy managers at ISPs, Universities, and large IT organizations.

Ideas that the logo can convey:
- Optimization
- Simple Solution
- Solid Solution
- Traffic Management

We don't have a list of logos that we like, but here are websites of several companies in related fields. We want to convey an image similar to the images that these ones convey (but better, of course...)

http://www.p-cube.com/indexold.shtml
http://www.radware.com/
http://www.iamba.com/
http://www.tmt3.com/
http://www.jungo.com/

We will need all of the usual file formats - including JPEG, transparent background GIF, BMP or similar for printing etc.

Based on past experience we would like to run this contest for about 7 days and then choose the 2-3 best designs for a short second round.

Initial entries should be received by January 14, 2005. We plan to announce a winner by January 19, 2005.

Thanks for your participation!

Hi Everyone!

This contest is yielding some nice designs so far.
We encourage people waiting on the sidelines to jump in!

Here are our comments on the initial logo designs:

QuirkDesign: Interesting but not exactly what we are looking for. We need something that could be a Fortune 500 logo - yours reminds me of a smiley face, which may be too fun for our purposes.

Eziey: Your entry is attractive but we are not sure what it means. We want the logo to somehow mean "optimzation". Colors work well for us (my YOUNEVERCALL logo colors) If you can think of other variations of the logo that might somehow mean 'optimized traffic' that would be great.

MyChicken: We like the look of your logo - but it looks like the company does something involving splitting atoms or hazordous materials. I think the arrow works well and your V is interesting too. If the logo can somehow say: 'we make broadband work better' that would be ideal.

Mowling: Your logo and colors are attractive, but someone in the office pointed out that the b&w version looks a little like a Swastika - which we don't think is a good thing for a logo. We would be happy if you have another entry since we like what you did with colors as well as the font of the company name.

Thanks to all of you for your work - we look forward to your revisions and new entries!

regards,
sam michelson

The logo shows something surrounding the globe continously (repeated)...Overall shape of the logo is an eye as you said that DJ means de javu....( what has been seen before)...:)

Hi Eziey,

Thanks for the explanation! Makes more sense to me now.
Still if you can make it say "I'm optimized" that would be good too!

regards,
sam.

Here's our latest comments:

LonelyRabbit - thanks for your entry. Its a good logo but not precisely what we were looking for.

MyChicken - Thanks for all the arrows - we werent sure where they were pointing. The second design you did is great - but more for a restaurant logo than for an infrastructure software company.

Thanks to both of you for your entries!!

We have decided the following...

Mowling and Eziey are our two finalists!

Mowling: we like the 15 circles logo best.
We are not sure about the font or the spacing of the tagline.
If you could please present us with a diffferent font and spacing option that would be great.

Eziey: We like your design, but would also like to see the company name in another font or two if possible.

Lastly if either or both of you can give us a rough idea of what the logo will look like on a business card - that will help us make our final decision.

We expect to wrap this up soon after we have your final entries.

sam michelson

Hello...here are variations on the tagline. Also, I did a small variation on the font for the logo at the bottom. Let me know of any revisions.

Thanks to everyone for participating!

Eziey & Mowling - thanks for your excellent designs.
Our decision was tough, but we are pleased with our choice....

Mowling - we have chosed your design!

thanks again to everyone who entered.

Mowling: please prepare for us high and low resolution versions of the logo. Use the tagline font that you used in your business card example.
Also please send us versions with transparent background. As well as super high res version we can use for printing posters. Also - versions with just the logo (or logo with DVN?) Thanks!
