First off, let me say that you are the most talented designers, as a group, I've ever come across. My perfume website is doing wonderfully, in no small part because of the wonderful work you guys/gals did. I wanted to thank you for that. On to the project at hand.

It's a fantasy sports website. It will be called Fantasy Sports Nuts, and the URL will be http://www.fantasysportsnuts.com

I will be providing fantasy sports leagues for baseball, football and basketball. I want the general look/feel of the logo to be something cool, manly, etc. While my perfume logo was subtle, and underspoken, I think it's alright if this logo (because of my target audience....99% men) is bold and striking. If you think otherwise, and think that underspoken might be better, I'm always willing to see what you have to offer.

Let me know if you need any further explanation.

Deadline is Monday, January 17.

thanks and I look forward to getting your submissions.

Welcome back JP ;) ,

Just for clarification, is the logo to contain the whole URL, or just Fantasy Sports nuts?

thanks,

Aaron

I'm open to either option. I'd like to see how both options look. Both "Fantasy Sports Nuts" and "Fantasysportsnuts.com"

I'll start it off... shown is a full color design, two-color version, and black and white.

Aaron, can I see it with the "dot com" at the end? Also, feel free to submit another idea if you want.

JP

EDIT:

Just read this post and it comes off as if I don't like your initial offering. I like it alot, actually. Simple but elegant and professional. Either way, feel free to submit more than one idea (that goes for everyone). I hope it didn't come across like I didn't like your INITIAL idea.

Hi,

No offense taken. It's hard to convey any kind of intentional inflection in text only.

Here's a version with the ".com"

Project deadline is only a couple days away. How come this contest is moving so slowly?

Carl
01-14-2005, 05:47 PM
JP,

I think there are a few things limiting entries. First, other than the first couple of entries, there has been no feedback. There are currently 51 different logo contests going on. Without feedback it is impossible to know if we are heading down the correct path for the project.

Also, you have only had the project active for 3 days and the project deadline is only 6 days after post. Because of the quantity of projects running, designers may feel that it is just not enough time to start working on a project - especially if they aren't around during the weekend to handle revisions and changes.

Which brings the third thing - weekends. Because you only have a limited amount of time for the project, running it over a weekend will result in less entries. Many designers do not submit entries over the weekend - they have seperate lives, believe it or not. So, essentially, today was their last chance to enter the project and if they ran out of time, they would forego this project.

I will post a note to the Designers to take a look at the project and hopefully get some more activity for you. I know I plan on entering one more logo for you. Maybe even two.

Thanks!
Carl...

Fair enough, but, in response to those things, I posted a much higher than average $200 prize, which should offset those things. As for feedback, I am reserving it, mostly, for the winner of the contest, for tinkering purposes. Ideas posted should not be dependent on feedback. Ideas should be unique, which is why I don't like to give feedback until a winner is chosen...so as to not limit myself by giving the impression that the feedback I'm giving is what I'm looking for, necessarily.

So, again, I'm not sure why feedback would prevent people from posting, but, to be honest, I hope more people do post, as the prize that I posted should merit more entries than what I'm getting.

JP

Alright then, i'll submit my entry on /or/ day before the final day ;)

jcambert
01-14-2005, 07:07 PM
By the way, Carl, I really hope the fact that I don't give feedback (by design) is not the reason that people aren't posting because, frankly, if that's the case, then I think it defeats the entire purpose of a forum like this...namely the opportunity to see a multitude of unique ideas from a multitude of talented artists. If people are waiting for me to give feedback, in order to get an idea, then that's probably not the designer I want to work with anyway. I'm hoping that the rest of you immensly talented artists are going to post, because, I'm a big fan of your work and would love to see more of your unique ideas.

jcambert
01-16-2005, 06:04 AM
Bill, thanks for the entry. Very funny, and Very creative, but, I would prefer something not quite AS convoluted, since this is going to eventually need to go at the top left of the website header, and possibly on business cards at some point as well. It is excellent, just a bit too complicated. Got anything else?

DG: Thanks for the quick revision. Can you find a way to add in the ".com" also?

MOZ: The design is excellent but too convoluted. Looking for something smaller/simpler for the logo. Any thoughts?

Graphixparanoid: Take your time.

Jayson: I love the idea of the three letters with the different types of balls etched in them (baseball, basketball, football), but, we won't be using those three letters by themselves, as they are in use by another well known sports company. Any way you could incorporate them into the ACTUAL "FantasySportsNuts.com"? Maybe make the "F" the "S" and the "N" bigger than the rest of the letters with the balls etched into them?

JP

jcambert
01-16-2005, 04:24 PM
DG: Also, feel free to play around with a couple different letter styles/fonts if you want.

Flava
01-16-2005, 04:31 PM
Heres a quick concept, having a standard logo thats changes for each sport section on the site. This is just a quick mock , I'll have to add details and modify the different sports 'balls' and also need add the Fantasy Sports Nuts tag with and without .com Let me know if you you like the idea and I'll work on it.

jcambert
01-16-2005, 04:34 PM
That's a neat idea...changing the logo for each different sport. But, I would like to see if you can incorporate that into the entire word...

I can't use those initials because "Fox Sports Network" uses them and, I don't want to cause a problem, nor do I want their to be any confusion.

JP

Here's my revision...I'm going for the sports bar feeling if you can't tell ;)

jcambert
01-16-2005, 04:59 PM
Flava: I have a question. Are you still working on the actual balls themselves? I can tell that the second one is a basketball, but, I can't quite tell what the first and third ones are. I'm guessing that the third one is a football, but, maybe you could draw the white stitching that goes along the center of a football for grip. And in the first one, if it's a baseball, maybe you could draw the stitching on that one as well?

Julie: I like it alot, but, my two partners think that it's a bit too convoluted. They are looking for something simpler. Any ideas in that area?

jcambert
01-16-2005, 05:00 PM
Flava, I just noticed you mentioned that you were still working on the actual balls. Sorry bout that. Didn't notice you had said that. Take your time. My apologies.

For those of you with extremely elaborate designs, let me just say that they are absolutely wonderful, and remarkably creative, but, I don't know if they will necessarily work for us. We are looking for a logo to put at the top left of our website header, and, eventually, possibly on a business card as well, so, while your designs are BEYOND amazing, I think we might prefer something simpler. Not necessarily something unimaginative, but simpler. Does that make any sense?

Jayson: Can I see what your design might look like if you used the graphic as the "dot" in the ".com"? And, also what it looks like if you used it as the "o" in "sports"? Do I make any sense?

Davegk: Same for you. Can I see what it would look like if the EXACT same graphic were used as the "F" in "Fantasy"? Also, I don't know if it will work but, my favorite of the four was the last one, where the graphic is slanted to one side. Maybe we could try using THAT one, and also the straight one? And, maybe we could also try a couple different colors?

Pracus: Wow. A bunch of different ideas, all very good. Can you play with the second idea a little bit? I like it's simplicity alot. Maybe you could put some sort of light stitching into the circle like a baseball? I'd also like to see the ".com" in there somewhere.

Jak: EXTREMELY creative and something I never would have thought of. But, I don't know how well it will work as a logo. Although this might be wonderful as a general graphic inside our website. Maybe we can talk later about using it as such, or, you can enter it into the template contest when we pick our logo.

Bella: Another wonderfual piece of art, but, too complex for a logo...too big, I think.

Aaron: I think my favorite was your original submission (with the .com included). It's the simplest, and yet still elegant and professional.

Hope this helps you guys out in terms of direction? I'm not too good at this. If you need more information, please feel free to ask it.

Kimber, if at all possible, as I mentioned in my other post, if you could remove the circle that circles the balls, that would be great. That might reduce the size a little, as it's a bit too big, I think.
Thanks,

Flava. How about making all three words on the same line, and making all three balls (baseball, basketball, football) appear on top of each word as well? Maybe you could post them with the different fonts you used?

Davegk: I hate to do this to you but, you are one of our final three and, myself and my partners are in a bit of a disagreement as to what makes this logo so unique and so brandable. Please play with a couple of things for us, if it's not too much trouble:

1) Can you play with the bottom part of the "F" and NOT make it a baseball bat? Maybe, possibly, make the "t" in the first word the bat instead?

2) Can you play with the look/fonts of the "sportsnuts" and the ".com"?

JP

jcambert
01-19-2005, 08:06 PM
Never mind. Actually, we've made up our mind.

First off. I wanted to thank EVERYONE for the submissions. My partners and myself spent the better part of today narrowing down to our finalists, and, we had a hard time getting that number down below 15 or so. Your inventiveness and talent are beyond comprehension and, we are eternally grateful for all the hard work that EACY of you put in. I am in awe. I can't thank you guys/gals enough.

Now, on to the winner. We've decided to go with DaveGK and the general idea of post number 121. Congratulations Dave, and, once again, thanks for the revisions and the hard work.

Having said that, we would like to tinker/play around with a couple of minor things.

1) Let's see how the "F" looks tilted to one side, similar to one of your first submissions, where the top of the F was coming down, as kind of a sledgehammer.

2) We had an idea to add some football stitching to the F, on the inside, vertically. Could you show us a couple of options in that regard?

3) I'd like to see how the F looks, if it remains straight as it is now (not slanted as in point number 1 above), if the "sportsnuts" was somehow moved over, to the right, and the bottom part of the "F" came down even further.

4) We love the lettering and look of the "antasy" but would like you to play with the lettering and look of the rest of it...maybe also take out the black shading behind the "sportsnuts."

Just some brainstorming ideas. Maybe a combination of these or something. Let me know. And, once again, thanks for the hard work. Hopefully we can hammer out the final version by tomorrow, Friday.

Thanks to EVERYONE.

Dave, a couple more revisions. In addition to what I posted in post number 162, my partner thought maybe you could put the little football at the end of the "sportsnuts" and make the "com" vertical or at an angle, after the "sportsnuts." Let me know.

Also, as a designer and in YOUR expert opinion, which do YOU think looks better...WITH or WITHOUT the black shading behind the "sportsnuts"?

JP

Sorry for the delay - today is very busy for me. I think the logo looks much better with the black background behind "sports nuts".

I'll play with the .com placement and rotating the "f" and post a revision soon.

Do you prefer the bat graphic on the F or the T? Also, do you like the extension of the F to the bottom of the logo?

-David

jcambert
01-20-2005, 09:59 AM
We prefer it on the F as it was originally, and, we prefer the long version, as it is now. As for the background....there are three of us (partners), and, two of us think it looks better with the white background and the other thinks the black background. I think that, with the black background, it looks a bit more cluttered and adds to the things that must be looked at.

As for the delay...not a problem...take all the time you need. I will be stepping away from my desk in about ten minutes, and will be back about an hour after that, and remaining here for the rest of the day.

JP

a few more versions...
-David

jcambert
01-20-2005, 10:08 AM
Any way that you could move the F slightly, up and to the left (very slightly) to be able to slant it a bit more? And, I think we are going to go with the white, instead of the black background. As for the .com, I'm going to have to see what they like. Could you post a white background, with the F slightly more slanted, with the .com both vertical and BELOW as you had it originally?

JP

jcambert
01-20-2005, 10:10 AM
Also, when you get the chance remember the stitching in the "F" that we had asked for.
JP

davegk
01-20-2005, 10:10 AM
I think the black background actually brings the logo into focus better. It seems easier to read and has a stronger overall appearance. We can still experiment with different colors which might help too, but I think the box is a good thing.
-David

jcambert
01-20-2005, 10:11 AM

Here's a few more... I changed the font in the bottom 2 to match the font used in "Fantasy". I think this works better for the white background.

Well, you've got quite a few versions to look at now. I'd suggest sifting through them and deciding which features to keep. I'll be out for a few hours and back around 4:30 EST.

-David

jcambert
01-20-2005, 11:43 AM
Ok, we've narrowed down the two finalists to the bottom two you posted. I agree that without the black background, that font is better suited. We can't quite decide between the vertical and horizontal ".com"

A couple of things. The stitching that I've mentioned above. Also, we need to incorporate our slogan on the bottom. "Got Balls?"

Thanks for all your help and awesome response times.

Slogan, stitching, and some more fun...
-David

jcambert
01-20-2005, 01:44 PM
Wow. That's neat. You are utterly amazing. You are SO inventive. As for the slogan, it should be much smaller and much more subtle. It should be small, and on the left (not centered). Take a look at our other site: www.unlimitedperfumes.com for slogan look. It should be a small part of the logo, in our opinion, not necesarily a prominent one. Let me know. As for the other options, we are discussing right now.

JP

jcambert
01-20-2005, 01:54 PM
Ok, we've ruled out the bottom right option. We really like the halo/circle around the "F." What we'd like is the slogan in quotes, smaller, and less prominent, with a left hand justification at the bottom there. Maybe even also without the black background. We're also going to do away with the stitching, as it looks better with the shadow like you had it before, instead of the stitching.

JP

davegk
01-20-2005, 01:56 PM
and do you prefer the rotation of the 'F' in the top or bottom row?

jcambert
01-20-2005, 02:02 PM
I kind of like it both ways really. I'm waiting for one of my partners to email me back on that variety. What I'm trying to do is pair down everything else. In essence, we are almost done. The only thing left to do is modify the look of the slogan, at which point we will submit our decision to you on which slant to choose.

One more option and I will stop harassing you. Can you try putting the slogan along the arc of the circle atop the "F"? Make it small while still readable. I apologize for all this, we just want to make sure we get it right. You are the bes.t Thanks for your patience.

I have Adobe Illustrator 8.0 I believe, so, in addition to the jpg or gif, or whatever (i'm not too versed on this stuff), if you could email me an Illustrator 8.0 file, that would be great. We'd also like to get the "F" with the circle around it, by itself, as a separate file.
