Post any problems with the new forum here.

I know the default smilies on the right need changed. I'll do that sometime today.

Don't know if it is a bug, but the Mods and Admins don't show up bold in the user list.

And the badges don't show up like they did on the .net test site.

Thanks, I need to fix those.

This is probably not a "bug", but the latest vbulletin is 3.0.5. Is another upgrade happening soon?

Lets keep that one under your hat ;)

The site has had the 3.0.5 security patches installed. The rest of the changes are mainly minor cosmetic changes.
For the mambo/Vbulletin merge carried out on this site, there is only two files modified to make it work. However sods law dictates that one of those two files has been heavily changed in 3.0.5

The merge of the two sites is something that has been ongoing for some time, each time completed another release of either mambo or Vbulletin has come out. The upgrade to 3.0.3 was seen as a big step forward and the upgrade to 3.0.5 is only minor changes, and two security issues (patched).

I think it would be a good time to hold off and let DO grow as it is, saying that however its not my site and so is upto Palmer if he feels upgrading for minor things (the security issue has been patched) is what he wants, them im sure you will see 3.0.5 soon.

Hope that helps, and over to Palmer to hear his thoughts.

Kind regards
Paul

P.S I love the newer colour scheme :)

As long as it's secure that's all that matters to me :)

Is it just me or is the new site incredibly s-l-o-w? I use Safari (Mac browser) and it seems like it takes twice as long for anything to load than in the old version of the site. :(

It does seem a little slower to me. I'll see what I can do to improve that.

Seems a lot faster to me.

Strange, it says I have 12 unread PMs (which I don't)

Also, the ads don't seem to be rotating. It keeps showing the same programming outpost ad and not the GREAT one for www.IncTalk.com ;)

Last, I don't think your allowed to use IPB smilies on a vBulletin board. Not sure....

I think that will correct itself after the database updates.

This will be in an email I'll be sending out to our advertisers but we have a new ad system with default ads in them. I'll need you to cancel your current subscription, I'll refund your most recent subscription payment and then you can sign up under our new advertising program. What's neat about it is you can have a daily report sent to you as well as try different ads to see if one works better than others.

Sssssh :look:

I have to agree with Michael, the board seems a lot faster to me, both here and when we had it in our top secret testing facility (sounds all cool and formula one if i say it like that). Also VB3 is generally faster.

Is it just the forums that are slow or the the front end of the site too, home page etc?

Wot smilies? ;)

Palmer

The slow pages are the ones with a lot of attachments like the project threads. It seems to want to download the attachments before any of the lower half of the forum is displayed. I believe that's what is making it appear slower on some pages. I'll see if I can do something about that.

I'm assuming as these images get put in your cache, the browser will display those and make the site quicker on each thread view.

I am getting javascript errors on every page using IE (no choice - work standard)

Palmer

Looks like there's a double quote where there should be a single quote, do you agree?

Looks like there's a double quote where there should be a single quote, do you agree?Yes, somewhere in the advertising code. When I get multiple errors, it's always pointing to that kind of code.

NEW BUG

I was in the "Your Outpost" area to turn off subscriptions and I clicked on the "Edit Email Password" link and got this error message:

You are not authorized to view this resource.
You need to login.

At this point, I see a login box on the right hand side of the screen, but if I hit the back button I'm still logged in.

Palmer

The log ins are supposed to be intertwined, in other words when you log in to the forum you *should* be logged in to the home page. It worked great in testing but for some reason is failing since we've gone live with it. :(

So if you log in on the home page also, you should be able to see the change password page.

I did find out what is causing the javascript errors and I'll be working on that now.

Palmer

Ok, the javascript errors should be fixed. Can you confirm that?

davemaxwell

Yep the javascript errors are gone. Thanks!

No problem. I guess they don't pop up like that on IE 6 but I unfortunately remember the annoyance of them on IE 5.5. I hated those.

I can't edit my password. The progress bar (status bar) just loading and don't take me anywhere.

If you have any problems logging in, goto www.designoutpost.com and login using the box on the right. This login works fine and will log you into both the main site and the forums.
If you are logged into the forum, but not the main site. LOG OUT of the forum, goto the above URL and loginto the site.

Logging in from the front end works fine, and will log you into everything.
Logging in from the forum, will sometimes not log you into the front end of the site.
The problem is due to the merge was done on Vbulletin 3 standard. Because this template has been modified its altered how the login works. We are looking at how to make it so Palmer can change the template and not worry about messing up the login codes.

The simple rule is if you do everything from the front/main area of the site (www.designoutpost.com) then it all works well.

To change the password Luc, it may have just been a timeout error with your connetion or something.

Make sure you goto
http://www.designoutpost.com/component/option,com_user/task,UserDetails/Itemid,21/

To change your password and that you are logged in from the front end of the site.

If you cannot get access to the site, password/username doesnt work for some reason, then request a new password using this page
www.designoutpost.com/index.php?option=com_registration&task=lostPassword

Hope that helps :)

I login from the front area but I still have to login from the forums. I still cannot change the password. I'm on dsl. I also tried other forums but I only have this problem here.

I am on IE6 running XP Pro, but they haven't applied the latest service packs yet (don't ask:rolleyes: ) so perhaps that's the difference.
