View Full Version : [Project Complete] Logo for a used bookstore

(Admin code added by Michael - S0434322Y)

I need a logo for our soon-to-open bookstore, Read Ink Books. The store will exclusively sell used books. We will specialize in newer titles with very few antiquarian books, so the logo should be modern.

The logo must reflect our name, which is constantly mispronounced. The store name is pronounced "Red Ink Books," not "Reed Ink Books." So, the logo should have some use of red ink in it.

You can see our attempt at a logo at our website to give you some idea of what we had in mind: http://www.readinkbookstore.com

The main version of the logo will be used on a white background on various marketing material and our website. However, we also need second version that could be printed on a red background (maybe red business cards or red t-shirts?).

We have a tagline, "Quality Used Books." I'll leave it up to you guys to decide if you want to use it in the logo design -- I'm indifferent.

We would like to have a design chosen by January 25th.

Hi :)

The logo must reflect our name, which is constantly mispronounced. The store name is pronounced "Red Ink Books," not "Reed Ink Books."

Have you thought about actually naming it "red ink books", so that it isn't mispronounced and phonetically corresponds to the "read ink books"?

(btw, just a heads up: intentionally or unintentionally, the word "February" is misspelled on your front page ;) )

The name of our bookstore is Read Ink Books b/c "read ink books" basically means "used books", so, no, we don't want our bookstore to be called "Red Ink." Thanks for the suggestion.

We actually like that the name of our store is a play on words and that you can actually pronounce it different ways... we just thought that a clever logo may help the customer pronounce "Read" in the past-tense.

Thanks for the heads up on the website... obviously it's still under construction!

We are looking forward to some awesome creative ideas for our logo! Thanks for your idea Matt!

Here's mine. Thought I'd play on the pronounciation key idea for logo #2. Let me know what you think.

Here's a typographic treatment...

Thanks so much for the great work so far!

Matt- We think it is a little too plain. Doesn't really give off the whole "Read Ink" idea...

Mbleigh- Nice job on the overall text design, not sure about the symbol. What else?

MyChicken- We love both designs! We like MyChicken#2 the best so far. The pronunciation alphabet is really clever. On MyChicken #1, we love the ink splat... not sure we like the font.

Aaron- This design is too bold for what we had in mind, and it doesn't really give off the "Read Ink" theme.

Great work! Can't wait to see what else you come up with!!!

MyChicken- We like #4, but we are still sticking with #2 as our favorite so far.

QuirkDesign- Very nice idea for the dripping red ink quill, but we don’t really like the font.

Thanks for your hard work! It’s amazing what you all can do.

Forgot to mention that we need a TM symbol after the “Read Ink” – thanks!

We are still open to new suggestions! Look forward to more ideas!

Thanks for all the hard work and thanks for more submissions. It is so nice to have so many options.

I just had our other partner take a look at your work and his feedback is below:

QuirkDesign- Better font... but we are looking for something a bit more exciting/clever.

Mowling- Good idea but we think the work "ink" gets overlooked in the inkwell. The words "Read" & "Ink" need to stay close together.

MyChicken- #5 is still our favorite! Very clever.

We are still open to new ideas. Please join in on the fun!

:) I peacfully disagree. While the word "INK" in the bottle does very slightly blend in the bottle. I think the Icon of the Red Ink Bottle along with the word "INK" combines to communicate an effective clear message. But I am not the client and it is not for me...just my take. :)

Mowling- Thanks for your feedback! We obviously need help from you guys or we wouldn't be here asking for your help. We like the idea of a red ink bottle (we actually used this idea on our own attempt at a logo on our website) however, looking at your last logo we think it looks a bit more like a public service announcement to "Read Books" since the "Read" and "Ink" are separated by the circle and the ink bottle. Thanks for your help with this! :)

Sure thing! I will come up with another concept

I think this font flows better with the mark. I can't get too nuts with the font because it would clash with the simple elegance of the mark. ;)

Thanks for the new designs!

Deanna- Thanks for both options. The book idea is great. Not sure we like how the squiggles of ink on the pages or under the name look. Any other ideas for the book theme a bit more contemporary?

Aaron- Sometimes simple is best. Nice. Do you have an idea for how this logo would look like on a red business card or t-shirt?

Also, there is a TM after “Read Ink.” Thanks!

Keep the ideas coming! :)

I see a simple business card, with text in black, with the exception of the logo, which would command attention, even as understated as it is. :D

:) We are thrilled to have so many options. Thanks for your submissions. :)

Aaron- you make the logo come to life and it looks good!

Tonya- very nice idea. Can you show us some other fonts still using the ink bottle and red ink droplet? We have a TM after the “Read Ink.” Also, can you show it on a red background?

Taldo- nice contrasting idea. Well done.

Thanks so much! You all are so awesome!

We will keep the contest open until the deadline of January 25, when we will select a designer. Keep up the excellent work! :)

Thanks for the new designs! Excellent work! :)

Carl- Nice emphasis on the pronunciation using a smaller “A”. No revisions, Thanks!

Paula- Thanks for the 3 different options!! Design 1: Nice red ink pen idea… gets the point across. Design 2: Like the idea, not as much as the others, though. Design 3: Great red book!! No revisions needed. Thanks Paula.

Tonya- Thanks for the font revision on #2. We like this font better. Just to see another variation, can we see the text “Read Ink” on the same line??

Radical Seed- Good idea using the red ink on the open book. No revisions necessary, Thanks!

We will make our decision on the winning logo tomorrow! Are there any designers still working on NEW logo’s? Please let us know. We have to gather our team together and make our decision and we want to be sure to have all of the entries first! Thanks so much! :)

The deadline is 8pm EST tonight and then post our winner! I hope that's enough time. We want to have a winner tonight! :)

FYI- we will pay our winner to do some additional work for us after this contest is over. :)

Is it possible to get a slight push in the deadline?

In the spirit of Dan Brown's, Angels and Demons (http://www.johnlangdon.net/New_Pages/Angels_Demons.htm) I am working on an ambigram for you. Just taking a little longer than a traditional logo

We will push the deadline to 9am EST on Wednesday, January 26. Then we will have to declare a winner for this contest and move ahead.

You got us with the "book" excuse Raja... I am reading Dan Brown's Angels and Demons as we speak... so I am looking forward to the ambigram! :)

We have chosen a winner!

We want to congratulate MyChicken as the winner of this contest! We loved both designs you created, but we want to go with MyChicken #5. We love it! It’s strong and bold and it captures the personality of our bookstore!

We will need this logo in all possible formats including GIF, JPG, JPEG, TIF, PSD, EPS, AI & CDR.

Thank you! Let me know what to do next!

MyChicken

Do you have any changes? If not, I'll process the art as soon as possible. Thanks again for choosing my design!

If revisions are needed for this design, we can move you to the Revisions Forum. Other than that, you can just talk about additional project through private messaging or email.

By the way, congrats Chicken :)
