(Admin code added by Palmer - K832000W REF)
Company name: OnlineShoppingHub.com
Company profile: OnlineShoppingHub.com is a one-stop site for direction to great shopping deals on the Internet. Whether shopping for products, jobs, loans……or looking for a particular site……the osh (OnlineShoppingHub) should be your first stop. The slogan is, “before you shop, osh.”
Domain name: www.OnlineShoppingHub.com
What is the scope of this project?: New site – looking for 2 page template (homepage plus secondary page template)
Who is the intended audience?: Anyone who is using the Internet to shop for anything
Mood or tone?: E-commerce site……should be professional yet simple. The site should be packed with information that is organized and easy to find without a cluttered appearance. Styling should complement the logo in both theme and color selections.
Color psychology?: Color scheme not specified but must complement the logo. I’m open to any color combinations that make sense but the site must be designed with only enough color to draw a customer’s eyes to each important section of the page.
Any dynamic elements?: Site search bar; Newsletter e-mail sign-up (simple script; either background database, text file, or e-mail script and I’ll manage the e-mail addresses manually for now)
Who are your main competitors?:
http://www.24hourmall.com/
http://www.web100.com
http://www.bizrate.com
http://www2.shopping.com/
http://www.buy.com
What resources can you provide?: Company logo is attached (osh_spot_jpg.jpg). I also have a picture file of the “osh” bag only and B&W of both should you feel that it can add to the site.
Websites you like: The following websites aren’t necessarily what I envision for the look of the site overall, but I’ve included them for the reasons listed:
http://www.sitepoint.com (for the look of bars on left-hand and right-hand sites; product/company info in the center)
http://www.security.com (I like this site for how it clearly distinguishes the various sections)
http://www.buy.com
Deadline: 02/03/2005
Other wants (homepage):
1. Company logo
2. Search bar
3. Newsletter e-mail sign-up
4. Google Adwords advertising bar
5. Featured Partners area (Divided by categories with ~ 3 companies under each category – ALL text links only)
6. Featured Products area (multiple product specials including small picture and text description
7. Center area for ‘Website Gems’ (Website Gems are smaller, great find websites that will be changed weekly or monthly – may include small picture and text description)
8. Link to website privacy statement
9. Link to webmaster e-mail
10. Other???
Other wants (secondary page):
1. Company logo
2. Search bar
3. Google Adwords advertising bar
4. Main area should include space for description (pictures/text) of a particular company or product
5. Featured Partners area (looks like homepage) although this section may be titled something else like ‘Similar Products’ or ‘More Companies’
6. Secondary page should be longer (scroll down required) to fit additional data on that page
Format: Templates need to be in HTML format (will be using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 for revisions/updates). Also, this template should be viewable in IE & Netscape and load 'reasonably' well on a 56K dial-up connection.
Contest Award: $250

KiT10 - Great entry! Thank you for taking the time to customize most of my requests. I like the color scheme, overall layout, and the use of the "osh" graphic in the lower left. Although I like your first attempt, I'd like to request just a few changes:
1) Under 'Featured Partners', I'd like to get many more categories and 3-4 companies under each category. Please move down the "osh bag" and change each category to more of list style (smaller font). Under Category #1, please list Company A, Company B, Company C and so forth for the rest of the categories.
2) Just to see, please place the 'Featured Products' section where the Website gems section is located. Place the Google Adwords area where the Featured Products is located now. Please shrink the website gems area and move to the lower right beneath the current featured product area.
3) Can we get the search bar on the upper left? Maybe opposite of the newsletter sign-up on upper right? Newsletter sign-up is OK in current position.
4) I'm working on inputs for Menu items now....I'll be in touch. I like this attempt, so please keep copies of all entries as I may end up going back.
Aliska - Thank you for your entry. I like the placement of the Google Adwords section and the search bar in upper left. Also, the lower-left hand list section is more of what I'm looking for under the 'Featured Partners' section but needs to be titled as such. Please remove any mention of 'orders' or 'shopping carts' as this site is simply a pass-through to other ordering sites. Overall, I'm not as attracted to this first attempt as it's not much more than a template with minor modifications (i.e. not much customization).

Here is my changed version. I have an idea to move the block 'Sites Gems' to bottom of the page and expand it to 3 sites. What do you think?

Aliska - Yes, please move Website Gems to the bottom as you suggest.
KiT10 - Thank you for your revisions. I don't like where the search bar is located. It has to be placed either beneath the logo or back on the right-side as in your original proposal. Please switch the Google Adwords and Website Gems locations. Nice, simple, and organized layout!!
dziner - Nice first entry! I like the layout but I need to see more distinction between the Featured Product, Website Gems, and Google Adwords. Can you try putting the Google Adwords along the right-hand side of the page moving/shrinking the featured products/website gems to the center?

KiT10 - One more try......please copy the two newsletter boxes (grey) and place them adjacent to the left of the existing newsletter search. In the top, place text that reads "Search Our Site" with magnifying glass.....in the bottom grey box, place the search entry bar with the same "GO" button that you used on newsletter search.
I'd like to make a decision by tonight.....and you're in the lead.
Any other designers planning to enter last-minute??

All Designers - I would like to say 'thank you' to each and every one of you for your efforts. The selection of a winner was a very, very difficult decision due to the excellent alternatives. However, I've decided to go with dziner!! Congratulations, Shelly!
dziner - I'll talk to you in the revisions forum but I'd like to send you off with the following items:
1) Please add :: to the end of 'Featured Partners' to match website gems and featured products. Also, please match font sizes if it makes sense.
2) Please add copyright 'OnlineShoppingHub' statement (to bottom of page??)
3) Change text describing - 'WebsiteGems'. The intent of 'WebsiteGems' is provide small, little known shopping websites (and yes, hopefully with great deals!!)
4) One more thing that I'd like to at least take a look at is to stretch the featured products across the page and shrink the Google Adwords section to the same height as the Website Gems section.
Thank you and I'll talk with you in the Revisions Forum!

Shelly - Let's work as much as we can tonight/tomorrow on these revisions and then I'll be leaving on vacation until 02/13/05. If you don't mind, can we finalize everything the week of 02/14?
dziner
02-04-2005, 01:33 PM
Finalizing by the 14th will be fine. I have a rough draft done in HTML moving the webgems and google ads around like you mentioned. I am not sure if I will be able to get much more done tonite, but will hit it first thing in the a.m tomorrow. =)
here is the link for rough draft:

Shelly -
I'll try to pop on here once tomorrow (Saturday) to see if you've posted anything and provide feedback. If not, no big deal. We'll plan on finalizing the week of the 14th. I know that I still owe you direction on the MENU buttons. Also, I need to provide some direction for the second page (it's going to be very similar to the homepage but even more simple). Lastly, I'm wondering if you can provide me a third page (very easy one) that only has the header from the homepage but the size of the page is very long.......see www.coversoftware.com OR www.burnthefat.com. This third page would be simply a header and a spot for a parapgraph product intro beneath the header and maybe some "quote boxes" (see example URL's). I'll customize each page to the product.
wombatgroup
02-04-2005, 06:50 PM
Shelly -
On the second page, I want it to be more open as these pages will focus on a particular company or a product. Therefore, the specific company or product needs to be the primary focus (remove WebsiteGems). I'd like to keep Google Adwords and FeaturedPartners but maybe they need to be reduced in size slightly to open up the middle of the page. Can you place a transparent "OSH" bag in the lower left-hand corner similar to the other designer's concept? Again, these are for Page 2 only. Lastly, I'd like to see it with the FeaturedPartners section removed from this second page altogether. Thanks!

I am going to leave the first page (HTML version) (http://www.yencreative.com/online_shop_hub/web_home.htm) assuming it is ok from the previous post and now work on the second and third page layouts so that everything is ready for finalizing when you return.
Thanks!

I'm back!! Thank you for your patience and I'd like to try and wrap this up ASAP so that you can get paid! After re-grouping my thoughts, here's my comments below:
PAGE 1 (Homepage): I like the original page (Post #28) but make sure to include my requests 1-3 of Post #30.
PAGE 2: Please make the following changes:
1) Put Google Adwords back along the right-hand side of the page
2) Please try to minimize the width of the Featured Products and Google Adwords section as much as possible - do the same with Page 1.
3) Split the 'Featured Products' into two sections. The first will be 'Related Products' and the second will be 'Featured Products'. Leave 3 to 4 of the Categories / Partner Name template locations under each heading.
Note: I really like the bottom of Page 2 with the two blue bars and copyright statement, links, etc. Can you place this same design on the bottom of Page 1?
PAGE 3: I'll wait to see your first attempt and then provide feedback.
We're getting close to wrapping this up!! Thanks!

Hi and welcome back!
I am sorry, I thought I had uploaded the latest version of the home page HTML, (it did contain the copyright and changed webgems text.) It is located here (http://www.yencreative.com/online_shop_hub/web_home.htm).
I will re-arrange it to look like the version from post number 28 now.

Question, on page two, you want it split into two sections.. (related and featured) Do you mean have related products on top and underneath that show featured?
wombatgroup
02-15-2005, 01:22 PM
Shelly -
The homepage looks great! The only changes are as follows:
1) Please make the Featured Items area taller and shrink the Web Gems block.
2) Remove the bottom light blue line of the Web Gems area or line it up with the bottom of Featured Partners Section.
3) Stretch the light yellow background of the Google Adwords area to the top of the blue line (bottom of page)
4) Please compress the width of the Featured Partners and Google Adwords blocks as much as possible to leave as much space as possible in the middle sections
For page 2, yes, please split the left-hand block into two blocks (one on top of the other). Each block should look exactly like the Featured Partner block on page 1. The top block should be titled Related Products.....the bottom one titled Featured Partners.

Hi Shellly -
I'm sure that you're busy but I'd really like to finish up this contest. Please disregard my previous messages. I'll try to summarize all of my outstanding revisions below:
Homepage:
1) Use the page in Post #40
2) Remove the Google Adwords section completely and replace with a 'nicely designed' section entitled OSH Jobshop. This section will focus on promoting links to homebased business opportunities, job search pages, etc. Please be creative.
3) Make the Featured Items area taller and shrink the Web Gems block.
4) Shrink the width of the Featured Partners column (as much as possible) to leave as much space as possible for the rest of the page
5) Remove the bottom light blue line of the Web Gems area or line it up with the bottom of Featured Partners Section
Page 2 - Starting from Post #38
1) Place Google Adwords back along the right-hand side of the page
2) Split the left-hand block into two blocks (one on top of the other). Each block should have the same look as the Featured Partner block. The top block should be titled Related Products.....the bottom one titled Featured Partners.
Page 3
1) Very simple. Just a long page with a white background. Please include the thick blue lines and header at the top of the page (no menu buttons) as well as the thick blue lines footer as on page 1/2
2) Maybe a border or something around the entire page that matches the OSH color scheme?

Shelly - Looking good....see below:
Homepage -
1) Please change Featured Items section back to like Post #40 - move the jobs section to lower right corner (next) to webgems. Where Google Adwords is located in Post #40.
2) Job section - I like the links concept. Can you do a more fancy title area - something like "Check out the OSH Jobshop" or "Looking for a job? Check out the OSH job shop" where OSH job shop is actually a little fancier text.
Page 3 - YES, perfect. I'd like to have a long page (height) forcing the viewer to scroll down. I think I can just change the page size after receiving the files from you, right?
dziner
02-17-2005, 06:57 PM
See if this is okay (http://www.yencreative.com/online_shop_hub/web_homeb.htm)for the home page... and as far as page three goes and making it longer, you will be able to all of that according to what content you will need. I would just save each page you do as a copy of the original, that way you will always have it.

Shelly - I think we're almost done!! The pages look great! Please see my final comments below:
Homepage:
1) The page looks great!! Please shrink the height on both the WebGems and JobShop blocks. Keep them the same height but squeeze them down leaving a larger area for 'Featured Items'. I'm only planning on having 3 websites at any one time beneath the WebGems.....so that should give you some idea as to how small you can make those boxes. Please keep WebGems and OSH Jobshop the same height - only not has tall.
Page 2:
1) Underneath 'Related Items' on the left, please place the yellow bars with Categories and then Item 1, Item 2, Item 3 beneath each category (just like the Featured Partners block). Maybe give me three or four categories under both the Related Items and Featured Partners blocks.
Page 3: DONE!!
I'll watch for your final revisions and then I think we'll be done!! Thanks!

Just make sure that the web_homeb.htm, page2b.htm, and the two .css files are in the main directory with the images staying in a folder named images. (just in case you didn't know. :))
