We are seeking to have a logo developed for our church. The deadline is kind of a strange thing... we need some preliminaries before 10:00am(E.S.T.) on 6/11/03 so that we can narrow the field, then should have a final decision on 7/1/03.
Our staff needs to narrow the field, then the finalists will be brought to our church leadership team to make a final decision.
You will need to know some specifics about us, who we are, what we're about, so here goes...
Our mission statement is: "Impacting our neighbors for Christ"
Our purpose statement is:
Tabernacle Baptist Church exists to impact our neighbors for Christ by winning the lost, making disciples, touching the hurting, growing together as family and celebrating God's splendor.
We're trying to attract young families (18-45 year olds), but we do have some older folks in the congregation.
We want something clean-looking that would include our name with some appropriate artwork/visual stuff that helps convey our mission. Hope that's enough to give you a good start! We're looking forward to the submissions!

I see that we've had some "hits" on our post, but no replies or submissions... I hope the fact that we're a church isn't scaring anyone off.
If anyone out there needs more info - maybe I didn't give enough specifics (or... maybe I gave too many :o ) - Who knows?!
Anyway... I'd love to know if anyone is thinking or working on this thing. It's a little disheartening to see that many of the posts after ours got quite a few hits and a bunch of replies.
Seriously, if you want or need more info, just ask.
Blessings!

Hi there PastorDave, I notice that you talked about visual things to go along with the name Tabernacle Baptist Church. Do you have any visuals in your mind that you would like to see, like things that are assoiciated with the Baptist Church, i.e. cross, dove, flame...things of that nature. I am not a Baptist, so I know very little about the baptist church, so I guess what I am wondering is, are there any symbols that Baptist associate with the religion. Thanks.

Hi PastorDave, here is another example. Not sure if I'm heading in the right directions. I have been doing some research though about the Baptist religion and symbolism. I found that one universal symbol is a Globe with a cross and bible? I tried to show that through this design, but not in such a literal way.
I am probably over using the textured images, but I think it adds more of a natural feel.
Thanks.
PastorDave

I like what I see so far, but not quite what I had in mind...
Also, it's Tabernacle not Tablernacle
Anyway -- I guess as we've seen what's been posted and some of the questions we need to refine what we're thinking.
We'd like to capitalize on the "Impacting our neighbors for Christ"
The baptist church is a main-line Christian denomination (really denominations -- there are about 200 + baptist varieties!) Anyway, flames usually go with the United Methodist Church -- descending doves and flames generally are pentecostal varieties of churches... crosses are good, but I think I'd like to stay away from that...
Think neighbors and impact. Something warm and welcoming, clean and bold. We've been using burgundy in a lot of our materials -- so maybe burgundy and a color or two that would complement it... possibly gray as one of the colors.
We don't want anything too abstract, but we're willing to see if there is a graphical way you might be able to depict "Impacting our neighbors for Christ" -- maybe houses or open arms, or maybe even a burst of some sort...? So long as it can be explained pretty easily, that would be cool.
You guys are the "pros" here -- We like what we've seen in the galleries. If you can depict it and give us an explanation, that would be GREAT!
Blessings!
PastorDave
05-23-2003, 08:42 AM
I like the textures -- I'll run it by some of the others in the office and see what they think...
Also -- don't totally eliminate crosses -- I got to thinking about the cross, maybe houses or clusters of people and some way to depict impact.
Again, we're not experts in design (obviously, or we'd be doing this ourselves!) We'd love to see what you come up with, but thought those would be some good starting points for you!
Blessings!

victoria,
Nice try, but that's not what we're looking for.
Our current "logo" (for lack of a better term) is Imprint Shadow (looks like Times Roman with pinstripes in it) Small Caps Tabernacle, then Baptist Church centered under that (also Imprint) -- so, what you've done is quite similar as far as text goes.
Also, the medallion is not working for us.
We want a bold, contemporary, inviting design.

Ed - you're on the right track. I'm not able to see what you've posted in great detail. I'm at home viewing this on my cel phone.
I like elements of all 3. I'll try to get some feedback from other staff tomorrow.
Carolina (I think that was the name) - The dots were very clever, but I feel it looks either dated or retro - try again!
Blessings, all!!!

carolina man - the consensus was that you've got a good idea, the cross and house thing was good, but not guite what any of us had in mind. Also, the font wasn't guite what we were thinking, but we all thought it was unigue. Maybe you could come at it from a different angle.
Ed - the Jesus with raised arms was popular, as was the cross & people - both designs beat out Jesus hugging the house. A few of us were wondering if you could somehow make the "T" in tabernacle the cross like in your 2nd proposal. The comments on the first were a question of whether you could have no communion goblet in Jesus' hand.
We've been very impressed with the replies we've had thus far!
Keep up the good work!

CarolinaMan -- Better -- I like the font much better -- still not quite what we're looking for...
You've got a good, clean look -- we're definitely wanting that... but I can't quite put my finger on what to change.
Keep trying! :D
Ed -- thanks for the update on the previous designs. The new ones are nice, but not really what we're looking for. We like the mix of classic with contemporary (we have traditional and contemporary services here at the church, so your designs are good in that sense) I've yet to run by the new and re- designs by the staff. (However, I can tell you the new designs aren't what we're looking for - they're nice, but not where we're headed in this)

PastorDave
05-29-2003, 04:36 AM
First, I want to say, you're all doing great -- you've got us refining what we want -- we like elements of some, others we look at and realize that the ideas are great, but definitely not where we're headed. You all are GREAT designers!
Here's a more refined idea of what we want...
We like the designs that include the cross as the T in Tabernacle
We're thinking hands and houses would be nice too... The hands we've seen thus far aren't what we had in mind, however. Instead of full arms or uplifted hands -- maybe some gentle, outstretched hands (think allstate insurance!)
We're not locked into houses having to be in the logo design, but we think we'd like to see some designs that might included both hands and houses.
I hope we're not asking too much!
Blessings!
CarolinaMan
05-29-2003, 11:53 AM
;) CarolinaMan with another version on same theme. Pastor, I don't mean to be telling you what to do, however, I think you're trying to incoroprate too many ideas into one design, i.e., cross, hands, fonts, houses, etc. My experience says keep it clean and simple and make a positive statement to your market (your current and prospective congregation).

Hey everyone! Sorry I disappeared for a couple of days here... Been busy and sick!
Tonight we'll come to a "defining moment" -- so far, staff has had input, now we're bringing the refined ideas to the church council (volunteer leaders in our church) They will have some discussion and input. I'm not sure where they will take this, but I imagine they will end up giving some feedback on the ideas submitted -- not sure whether they'll ask for specifics like our staff has done...
I also want to remind everyone of the Mission Statement. Our mission is:
Impacting Our Neighbors For Christ.
Also, Baptist only has one B in it... I don't want to be nit-picky, we've got the general idea. But, I know that several of the volunteers on the board will discount an idea, simply because it is mispelled.
I just quickly scanned the new submissions -- I'll get back with y'all on those... I'm playing catch-up here in the office!
Blessings!
PastorDave
06-03-2003, 08:41 AM
OK -- I'm going to try and touch base on the submissions quickly...
Ed -- the logo with the 3 buttons is intriguing to me and one of the other staff members... could we see it with Jesus, arms outstretched in the middle button, a house or neighborhood in one of the side buttons, and a family or group of people in one of the other side buttons? The 2 latest submissions are good too -- at first we were a little confused on the last one, it looked like there was a frowny face on it, but at closer inspection we noticed that it was Jesus w/ outstretched arms! Very cool!
Ondarox -- nice design. It's clean and simple. Not quite what we're looking for, but it's not bad... I wish we had some direction to send you, maybe you can take another stab at it -- use your creativity!?
CarolinaMan -- We definitely like how you've refined your original idea -- is there some way we can incorporate a neighborhood?
jmberra22 -- nice design -- a little too abstract for our general congregation. I think our teens would like it, but isn't going to work for the 101 year old man we've got in our congregation!
If I missed someone else's design and you want more input, let me know!
Everyone keep up the good work

 Ed -- AWESOME! Much closer to what we'd like. Both designs are good, but the first is the one that generated much more excitement.
Another refinement to that one would be great (I really hope I'm not asking too much). I know it would be much easier if we could sit down and have some dialogue...
We'd really like OUR steeple in the middle of the houses. In the drawing posted, you've got a very rough sketch of it.
Also, the church is sandwiched between 2 houses in your submission. We're wondering if it could be placed BEHIND the houses (like we're sitting in the MIDDLE of the houses).
The new font goes GREAT with the "T" you used! I got several comments about it.
And again, can we see that revision with Jesus and without Jesus?
Finally (aren't you glad to see that word?!?) :D We would like to see the family & cross design with a different family that is a little more stylized (like in the right button in the 3 button design).
I kind of noticed that Ed & Carolina are pretty much the only ones posting right now.
We're leaning heavily toward Ed's designs (he has given us SOOOOO MANY different ideas and variations!). That doesn't mean that it's too late for anyone else to jump into the mix!
Blessings!

Ed -- FANTASTIC! I'm pretty sure we're darn close to the end here...
I've got a couple of ideas for the steeple logos -- you've got the shape, not the basic detail (needs some, not a lot -- I realize the photo I snapped this am was into the sun, you only got the silhouette (sp?) -- anyways, it looks great, but I think I'll get requests for details. Also, the birds on the 2nd were a nice touch, but I think I'd like them off.
I can really only foresee one change needing to be made on the other logo -- could you right justify Baptist Church under Tabernacle, maybe even shrink it just a tad in order to not have the crowding of the people's feet with the B in Baptist? People on the left is where I think we'll head with that one!
I really hope I'm not exasperating you!
Blessings!

OK -- here's the steeple...
We don't need intricate details -- just a couple of lines that would bring out the basic shape of the steeple (square base, octoganal top).
If just a few lines could be added that would match the minimal detail on the houses, that would be GREAT! We realize that too much detail and too many lines make for a VERY busy logo!
Blessings!

I'm away on vacation -- we're just a week away from a final decision -- nothing new has come up, so nothing more to share w/ our people, just the reworks on the 2 ideas that we've been working with for some time now...
I think it's safe to say that Ed has won the competition, but we've got to narrow it down to which design, then make any final modifications to it...
I'll TRY to check back periodically this week -- in case there are any last questions, etc.
Ed - if you could post with the final steeple logo WITHOUT Jesus AND the family and the cross both, then I can have them printed and circulated around our Sunday School for them to vote.

Okay -- we're almost to a final decision -- as it stands right now, one of Ed's 2 designs will be it...
I guess what I need to ask Palmer is, "Should we just go ahead and declare a winner, although we don't have a final outcome yet?"
Also, Ed -- can I make one final request?
Right now the steeple logo is the most popular, however I've had several requests from people who have trouble visualizing things if we can have the cross logo in Burgundy.
Could you post BOTH designs together again like your last post? I printed the submission and put it on a ballot form... I would like to be able to do that again -- it makes assembling the ballots a LOT easier!
Thanks!

Ed -- we've still got a couple of stragglers who haven't turned in their ballots yet. I will try to get them today... As it stand right now, I believe it will be the steeple design (I'm glad because that's the one you spent the most time on, refining it!)
Tomorrow will be my last day in the office for a little over a week, so I'd like to try and tie up loose ends on this. I couldn't get into the website yesterday, otherwise I would have posted this yesterday!
If we arrive on the steeple design, I was wondering if you could also separate the graphics out of it -- we will have a few times when we will just need the lettering, not the skyline.
I have staff meeting this morning -- I will discuss w/ the staff what to do, I think we're going to close the votes today.
Maybe I'll even have an answer before you log on again!
