Hey, I'm wondering what type of scanners and printers do you guys have.
My old Compaq IJ600 isn't cutting it at all anymore....takes about 5 minutes to print and ain't looking so
good.
I've got an old canon scanner from 5 years back...its tuck away in my closet somewhere.

So, whats a good printer and scanner for home?
Just so you know, I don't have the cash nor the space for those big commercial printers!

HP Printers all the way... I bought one recently, it wasn't even that expensive and daym, I printed a couple of photo's on it the other day and they are perfect. Pretty fast printing as well.

Scanners... I have an agfa one which works pretty nicely :)

I've heard nothing but good things about HP printers. I have a cheapy scanner that I rarely use. It's mede by Prima which I think is out of business. Here's (http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,4148,7497,00.asp) a product guide to scanners from PC Magazine. It should help a bit.

I bought this one a month or so ago and its money.

Well worth the investment.

The scanner is badass.

Used to have a UMAX scanner -- and I loved it, then it busted, but was still under my extended warranty. Unfortunately, the store I bought it from doesn't carry UMAX scanners anymore, so it was replaced with an HPScanjet. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but hey, it does the job.
As far as printers go, I print all my stuff @ work. Canon CLC2400 for colour, Xerox 490ST for B&W. The perks of working in a print-shop!

Thanks for response.
Guess i'll check out an HP printer...if they suck..i'm expecting a refund from Palmer and Platinum! :P
Xterior, that combo looks badass....too bad it's out of my budget.

EDIT- cre80r, how is working at a print shop?
I'm looking at a ton of local printing places here to put in an app. Already had a interview at kinkos but they only needed fulltime, so now i'm hoping to check out the other local places.

I agree - HP printers are where it's at. I've owned 3 of their inkjets and was (am) very pleased. I worked at CompUSA for 2 and a half years - and HP printers were not only the best selling, but the least returned.

Umax and Epson make good scanners - and I really like the small Canon ones too.

I have to say ive had nothing but problems with HP printers, both my own and work ones. They work ok for about a year or untill the warranty runs out then they always seem to die on me :( From most people i have talked to they dont rate HP printers very highly. They are great printers, but when they mess up they usually do it in style. I had one replaced that was 6 months old, the replacement broke down, the engineer couldnt fix the replacement gave me another one which was reconditioned (so even older than my new machine) and that died before the 12 month warranty was up. I have heard similar storys!!

Saying that there laser printers are excellent, i would just shy away from the low - middle end ink jets I use a Epson Stylus photo 895 and it rocks, it was under £200 even cheaper now i think and for photos is unbelievable. I dont even need a pc it has its own controlls and you can plug memory cards straight into it. Im on my second Epson now and am very happy!

As regards scanners, you cant beat HP, unlike there printers the low end models perform very well. My scanner is the HP Scanjet 5470C its a low end model coming in under £200 and has 2800 dpi. Works very well with the printer and software is good. A high quality scan that gets used a lot. It also came with a load of extras and again is plug and play USB.

I reckon you could pick both of the above up at a lot cheaper than what i paid now.

I think the term you get what you pay for applys with HP's and most printers or multifunction jobbers.

That was why I said what the hell and spent $600.

LOL.

lol @ calling printers/scanners jobbers.

Unfortunately, 600 is out of my range and I really don't have much of a choice right now but to get the low end models.
I'll check out the Epson and see.

Hey guys,

So... multifunction hps are no good I see. What about multifunction epsons? I'm looking at the epson stylus cx3200. It looks nice. So far reviews are nice. Anybody here use this one or know of any other fantasy terrific multifunction? I kinda need a multifunction right now because space is so limited in my apt. That's what you get for living in NY.

-ember :help:

P.S. So here I'm drinking good coffee and STILL am not awake enough to connect my inner voice to my fingertyping. Hehe...

You will get the exact opposite response from me.

My multifunction HP OfficeJet D145 is badass.

hotnuts21 - you must get different HPs across the pond over there - I've never ever seen an HP go really bad. And like I said - I worked at CompUSA for 2 1/2 years and sold many, MANY printers and received just as much feedback.

I have gripes with Epson printers - but some of my knowledge is a bit dated so I won't throw any logs onto the fire becase it may no longer be applicable. I think their output is good but that's where the 'good' with Epson stops.
